Whoever The GOP Nominee, Obama Must Be Defeated

Election '12: As Mitt Romney's loss in Iowa to Rick Santorum shatters the "historic" mantra, Rick Perry withdraws to endorse the former House speaker. The fat lady has not yet sung.

What a difference 24 hours can make in the political arena. One minute Romney looks to be sailing toward the GOP nomination with a third straight win in South Carolina's primary. Now it may only be one of three.

We may never really know who won the Iowa caucuses, but we do know that Romney's "historic" wins in both the Iowa caucuses and the New Hampshire primary deserve an asterisk next to them.

His eight-vote election-night win over Rick Santorum in the Hawkeye state has now been certified as a 34-vote loss. Results from eight precincts are missing — any of which could hold an advantage for Romney — and may never be recovered and certified.

Nor was the withdrawal of Perry from the race, coupled with an enthusiastic endorsement of Newt Gingrich, good news for the presumptive front-runner, wary of the "not Romney" vote coalescing into a majority.

Politics ain't beanbag, it's been said, and all the candidates have taken body blows — some fair, some not — from their opponents and a media establishment that, in addition to President Obama's billion-dollar war chest, will be hard for the GOP nominee to overcome.

Perry had his Gardasil and illegal tuition attacks from Michele Bachmann. Gingrich lost his lead when 45% of the ads run in Iowa attacked him on issues such as a consulting gig for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.

Wrong... On BOTH COUNTS. Preemptive wars are always wrong and Germany DID declare war on us. The same day, if I recall my history correctly, we declared war on Japan. Then Italy followed suit.

Romney is no less likely to appoint someone of Ayers’ ilk to the USSC than is the kenyan. Look who he appointed to the bench in Massachusetts. Either of them will finish off the country. I would rather the deed be done by someone who is on the other side nominally as well as substantially. Again, It will go faster with Romney. He is a “fellow Republican.”

You are referring to a time when armies were necessary. I don’t get your connection to capitalism. In the case of Iran, it has NOTHING to do with business, but with RELIGION.

I don’t believe anything I’m told. I actually split my time between here and Israel, so I am aware of events on the ground. You may poo poo the danger, but you are wrong. Having survived missile attacks, I can assure you that your confidence in the press reporting is misguided.

Bill and Nada’s Cafe sat right next to Trolley Square. They were a 24 hour restaurant, so they earned a strange cult following. When I was a teenager in the Eighties, Bill and Nada’s was the popular place to go after a drunken night at the local clubs. Everyone told me that I should go there, but when I asked why, all they could say was that it was open late and they served brains and eggs.

Brains and eggs… It wasn’t really a glowing review of the food. It was more like a dare. I could never get them to clarify any further, so I never went there.

I never ate at Bill and Nada’s Cafe. When I hear people lament the loss of Bill and Nada’s Cafe, I consciously control my face so that I don’t roll my eyes at their grief. I hold my tongue instead of saying, “It was just a restaurant, people, and from what I heard, the food wasn’t that good.”

No, when they start reminiscing about Bill and Nada’s I calmly go to my happy place and let them ramble on and on about it. They are ALWAYS shocked that I never ate there. I was so into the punk scene as a teen that they assume that I had enjoyed Bill and Nada’s as well. I smile at them and nod knowingly. I tell them, “It’s a shame they closed down,” even though I don’t really care.

Somehow that place got into the collective unconscious of the Salt Lake City resident. It became more than 2000 square feet of cinder block and neon. I don’t understand it because I never ate there, but I feel the same way about other establishments of my youth. I’m sure it had less to do with the food and more to do with the memories of what happened in that small diner. I just never experienced it, so I can’t wax philisophical about it.

That video is certainly informative. For example, I was unaware of anyone who has suggested that we engage in nation-building in Israel. Nor does it seem that anyone has suggested we “export democracy” to Israel. Nor am I aware of anyone advocating that send American troops to serve on Israel’s borders on the West Bank, Gaza, Syria, Jordan or Lebanon. I’m glad that Ron Paul apparently agrees on these points of nontroversy.

I looked at the rest of the speech to see if there were any other bits of common ground that Netanyahu and Paul might share but I don’t see many. One notable digression between the two men would seem to be the matter of military aid to Israel. Netanyahu gives thanks to America for its financial military assistance to Israel, pointing out that this assistance is one major reason why we don’t have American men defending Israel’s borders. He also states that our financial military aid to Israel continues to be a wise investment, which pretty much puts him in disagreement with Paul concerning that subject.

I honestly don’t see why the Israeli people continue to accept our financial assistance if they supposedly feel that they don’t need our help and feel that accepting such aid comes with an unacceptable burden of US interference in their policies. If they really feel that way, they are free to reject it, are they not?

Lastly, I will believe Ron Paul is not anti-Israel when he recants his ludicrous assertion that Israel is starving Palestinians and it turned Gaza into a concentration camp.
