Biodiversity Crisis Is Worse Than Climate Change, Experts Say
ScienceDaily ^ | Jan. 20, 2012 | ScienceDaily

Biodiversity is declining rapidly throughout the world. The challenges of conserving the world's species are perhaps even larger than mitigating the negative effects of global climate change. Dealing with the biodiversity crisis requires political will and needs to be based on a solid scientific knowledge if we are to ensure a safe future for the planet. This is the main conclusion from scientists from University of Copenhagen, after 100 researchers and policy experts from EU countries were gathered this week at the University of Copenhagen to discuss how to organise the future UN Intergovernmental Panel for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services, IPBES -- an equivalent to the UN panel on climate change (IPCC).

Don’t you realize that having only 3,229 species of roaches instead of 3,230 species will doom us?

The best way to address the larger part of this is to follow what my Dad taught me. Clean up after ourselves, whether we are individuals or corporations or governments. Then listen to hunters, fishermen and ranchers. Or we could put the EPA in charge and let the looneys rule us. One or the other.

Our twenty-year wildland restoration project on our property now hosts 357 vascular plant species, of which 245 are native. I defy the UN to find that kind of density in botanical species richness in any park, preserve, wilderness, or open space on the entire continent. I will happily challenge any expert they can produce.

PEOPLE are the best managers of habitat vitality because they induce prospective disturbance and manage predation at all levels of the biological pyramid. Excluding people in the name of "preserving nature" will necessarily lead to catastrophic system crashes and multiple extirpations, whether due to multi-predator systems or uninterrupted succession, guaranteed.

There is no need to save or conserve species. Every species is constantly evolving and new ones will emerge as they are able to compete for resources

Really? When’s the last time you saw a new species of elephant emerge? Or cat? Or bear? Or buffalo? Or deer?

There’s no new species coming, bud.

“Laying the groundwork for the crisis that will lead to global government after Human Caused Climate Change’s downfall.”

Bears repeating your comment, because that’s exactly what this is about.
