Newt up against the Prophet Obama would be a painful thing to watch. He might be deft with one-liners but it would be futile. There are .. uncommitted voters to be cultivated in 2012 — all would be unmoved by Newt’s juggling of conservative shibboleths..
Now Newt is hustling my fellow conservatives .. The last time around he successfully hustled conservatives in the House of Representatives and on the House impeachment committee.. He blew the impeachment and .. his role as Speaker. He now says Republicans in the House were exhausted with his great projects. Nonsense, they were exhausted with his atrocious leadership...
He is playing the liberal media card and saying he embodies conservative values. Newt is hoping conservatives suffer amnesia. Perhaps they cannot recall mere months ago when this insufferable whiz kid was lambasting the great Congressman Paul Ryan for “right-wing social engineering” — more evidence of Newt’s not-so-hidden longing for the approval of the liberal media.
Newt and Bill ..went on to create empires, Bill in philanthropy and cheap thought, Newt in public policy and cheap thought. Bill has wrung up an unprecedented $75.6 million since absconding from the White House with White House loot and shameless pardons. Newt .. got between $1.6 million to $1.8 million from Freddie Mac, and he lobbied for Medicare Part B while receiving, according to the Washington Examiner’s Tim Carney, “Big Bucks Pushing Corporate Welfare.” Now after a lifetime in Washington he is promoting himself as an outsider.
Conservatives should not be surprised by the scandals that lie ahead, if they stick with him. Those of us, who raised the question of character in 1992, were confronted by an indignant Bill Clinton, treating the topic as a low blow. By now we know. Character matters.. Newt has Clinton’s character.

Could you source that ridiculous assertion? In post 35 of this thread, I source Henry Hyde. The most courageous members of the House were on the Impeachment Committee led by Hyde. I do not remember anyone on the committee blaming their failure to convict on Gingrich or Livingston. They always blamed Gramm who was the Republican in charge of jointly negotiating the rules with Senate Democrats.
The impeachment trial became a show trial not because of Gingrich or Livingston but because Hyde and his committee had their hands tied behing their back by the Senate rules. To blame Gingrich and Livingston for the failure to impeach reflects an ignorance of the impeachment process as well as revisionary history based on personal scapegoating. Blaming Newt for the Senate's failure to convict is quite simply an indefensible assertion.

Really? Did Clinton seek any spiritual redemption? No. In fact he’s even worse now... you just don’t hear about it. The Hillary marriage (since she is a dyke)is classic marxist teaming of convenience. And old billy boy has all the signs of syphilis— seriously.
Newt did a great deal of soul searching, having his failed marriages, until this last one— and converted to Catholicism in his spiritual search. Let you who are without sin cast the first stone. They are not equational.

Apparently, I was unfamiliar with Gramm's role.
To top all that off, despite his Gramm-Latta reforms and economic knowledge-- he chaired McCain's presidential campaign.... and then QUIT in July 2008.. just like that he could see obama had McCains number. Always giving up in the fight, and in the impeachment-- hindered the impeachment trial bigtime.

It was the Senate who completely chickened out. In particular I remember Trent Lott telling Henry Hyde not to "send that trash over here." Newt Gingrich had nothing to do with it. See Admiral Mark Hill's (He was Tom Moorer's long time sidekick) column of the day: "Washington or Clinton, Senators?" It put the question to them and they chickened out. It was on either WND or CNS, I forget which.

This information was never publicly revealed by Hyde to my knowlege but passed on by David Schippers who was the head counsel to the House Managers. I think he wrote a book called Sellout.
