Seattle woman 'marries' building in attempt to save it

SEATTLE - A very unique wedding in Seattle on Sunday afternoon as people came to witness the union of a woman - and a building. In order to save a building from demolition, a Babylonia Aivaz “married” it.

Aivaz said "I do" to the warehouse on 10th and Union on Capitol Hill. She said she fell in love with the 107-year-old building during an Occupy Seattle protest and doesn't want to see it torn down to make room for a brand-new apartment building.

"I hope that America wakes up and realizes that gentrification is a serous issue that affects poor people, especially people of color, and we really need to stand up and do something about what's happening in our neighborhoods all over the country," she said.

"When I look at this building I see a community center, I see a community art space, i see a homeless shelter, I see free childcare, I don't see a building, I see a space that can address all the needs of our neighborhood.”

The union will probably be pretty short-lived - demolition is already underway.

It should be on ballot. We should allow this marriage.

Does she now become liable for taxes on the property, insurances and possibly become the defendant in claims of injury and frivolous lawsuit? I'd enjoy seeing people bringing suits against her for stubbing their toes or getting dust in their eyes like the liberals do to 'real' businesses in America every day.

...I don't see a building, I see a space...

She had a moment of lucidity.

In this case demolishing the building actually saves it.

I married a 5’7” Blond, that was 36, 22, 34, and sometimes people would say that she was built like a brick building before I could stop them.

If they have a child, will she give birth to a tool shed?

I just checked a street view of the Betrothed -didn’t look very old or historic.

Would have been a funny exercise for her to ‘marry it’ and immediately start paying property taxes on it....would have been an instant divorce:>)

It will never work. Look at the age differance!

I guess it's OK as long as she doesn't screw around with another erection!

(For our listeners in Rio Linda, 'erection' is a synonym of 'building'.)

<...I see crazy people. LOL

Hee hee. Why do these people always ‘see’ art spaces? I’m as much in favor of public art as the next person, but you and I both know what kind of ‘art’ would wind up in her imagined art space.

And free childcare - do they ever look at the regulations for this kind of thing? How about the credentials of people who are willing to work for free - taking care of your kids? And isn’t there some feminist sh*t about women and pay? Why do you want to demean women’s work by making it free?

I could go on and on. I love Seattle, but it is for sure full of some wackadoos.

You know, Cat, let’s suppose we decided to put on a satirical play making fun of nutbars in the Occupy protests. How exactly would our satire be different from that picture? Seriously, what details could a satirist improve on?

You’re right, it is a Ionesco or Mrozek absurdist stage play, as it is happened. Perhaps we oughta write it all down.

To: null and void

I heard that on the news the other night. Keep in mind that our state congress just voted to allow gay marriages. Hmmm - does this mean one can marry their cat/dog/horse only if it is of the same sex?

And looking at the photo, if I was going to marry it I would probably put in a few fumigation bombs just to be sure. And maybe a few in the building too.

I was really disappointed to see one of our local Edmonds “kids” in the pictures with the anarchist losers at this “wedding.”

I don’t care that she has nutcake political beliefs or really that she would show up at a spectacle designed to be a protest, designed to get attention.

I’m disappointed that she is hanging out with the anarchist vermin who contribute zero, take, take, take.....who cover their clothing with urine in preparation for the police to handle them during the arrests.

There is really no redeaming value in hanging out with any of these mentally unstable anarchists.

I see the ringleader anarchist loser in one of the pics so I know for sure it is these losers.
