The Shark Tank has learned that Congressman Tom Rooney has announced that he is running for re-election to Congress in one of Floridas two newly created congressional districts, and that Congressman Allen West will run for re-election in Congressman Rooneys 16th Congressional District.
The speculation will now begin as to which Republican will run in Allen Wests 22nd Congressional District. It is possible that either George LeMieux or Adam Hanser could abandon their Senate candidacies and run in the district, as both are from the area. The possibility exists that other current candidates for Congress in adjoining congressional districts could enter the fray as well.
There's a reason Congressmen aren't required to live in their districts.
If Allen West moved to my district I'd be happy to vote for him because he would represent me well in Congress, and that's the point of having a Congresscritter.
And as a career military guy it's not like West was inexorably tied to that district.
I'd be happy to listen to arguments otherwise, but nothing I've seen indicates the redistricting panel had it in for West. Amendment 6, sponsored by the Dems & passed by Florida voters, likely made West's old district as previously constituted illegal. It was a squiggly, gerrymandered, lean-R district in a liberal area. Legislators wanted their map to pass court challenges and seemingly drew maps with that in mind to avoid a court usurpation of redistricting.
That’s my view. West is a true American, a TRUE Black man, and a Patriot. The GOP-E can’t stand that. He might upset their slop trough. He should go for the Senator slot.
Allen West for US Senate. Absolutely no way around it. Ethical. And more important, DO-ABLE.
Anyone know when Nelson is up for re-election?
West would be one helluva senator.
I think that is what I said, but I am kinda old.

once u say these times call for desperate measures u skirt the rules...enough for corruption to happpen..
yes it wasn’t right they withdrew the boundaries. Tough.. Meet new voters and run again. Or get a job
West remember voted for the budget to increase spending.
What has West done to be a senator? He voted to increase spending? In public he does a bunch of pr stunts. Look at how he votes.
We need less career politicians and more tea partiers.
You do realize that Newt did the same thing years ago when the Georgia legislature tried to redistrict him out of office?
IMHO, Allen West should use this opportunity to, eventually and officially, become Newt Gingrich’s VP pick! What positive messages such a ticket could say to all who are against them as well as to all who are for them!
If Allen West ran in his own district he’d be facing little Debbie Wasserman. Sounds like a twofer to me.
This was an intentional “hit” on Allen West.
country club vs the USA.
I wish he would take Corinne Brown’s seat. That woman is a disgrace for the state of Florida!

On Hannity’s radio show today, West said he and his family will move 30 miles north to live in the new district. So, he won't be a “carpetbagger.”

Get real. You run where you think you can get elected. West said he thought the legislature disrespected (my word) his district making it much harder for him to win. Why would a GOP legislature do that to a most popular conservative congressman?
Thank you for bringing that up. You beat me to it.
If the voters want a newcomer, that's fine with me. I have no problem with what Gingrich did or what West may do — especially after redistricting.
The people of a district should be able to choose anyone they darn well please to represent them in congress. The constitution requires a congressman to be an inhabitant of the state he’s elected in, not any given local district.
The voters are competent to decide whether they want a “carpet bagger” to represent them in government.
That depends on the state. In Tennessee you have to live in the district you represent.
