In a new national radio ad released Wednesday, Rick Santorum lambasted Newt Gingrich over the former House speaker's declining poll numbers and second place finish in Florida's primary.

"Despite spending millions, Newt Gingrich went from a big lead to a big defeat. Why? Because voters discovered Gingrich wasn't a true conservative," the narrator says in the ad.

"Where is Santorum? Is he with his daughter? Nope. He wants to be PRESIDENT. Tells me what his priorities are. You can't make ANYONE like his priorities either. I have kids. I'd be with Bella."

Lots of soldiers don't get to spend the time they'd like with their families because they are called to a higher cause. I suspect Santorum is driven by a similar love of country and sense of higher purpose.

Lest we not forget, even Newt subordinated the good of his family to his love of country.

Mitt got away with the negativity in Florida. Rick isn’t Mitt - this won’t bode well for him.

So Newt cannot pick apart Romneycare without flying off the handle? That’s the candidate you want? Santorum had to do the heavy lifting in that debate. Newt was bumfuzzled. Imagine what the mainstream media moderators and Obama will do to him in a presidential debate!

Where was Newt during the impeachment of BillyBubba? With his mistress. Where were his priorities?

The Republicans had better send someone who will change the way Washington works, otherwise nothing will ever change.

When a middle class citizen, like Tome Delay for instance, goes to serve in Congress, then later leaves Washington a mutlit-millionaire, somthing is seriously wrong.

Newt Gingrich resigned from office and went to work as a consultant, earning his money the old fashioned way - he earned it.

Rick Santorum loves pork, entitlements, and earmarks. He voted for all the following:
Sponsored An amendment to increase Amtrak funds by $550 million
Voted to use HUD funds for the Joslyn Art Museum (NE), the Stand Up for Animals project (RI) and the Seattle Art Museum’s Olympic Sculpture Project (WA)
Voted to increase spending on social programs by $7 billion
Voted to increase NIH funding by $1.6 billion.
Voted to increase NIHnding by $700 million
Voted to for a $2 million earmark to renovate the Vulcan Monument (AL)
Voted for a $1 billion bailout for the steel industry
Voted against requiring that highway earmarks would come out of a state’s highway allocation
Voted to allow Market Access Program funds to go to foreign companies.
Voted to allow OPIC to increase its administrative costs by 50%
Voted against transferring $20 million from Americorps to veterans.
Voted for the $140 billion asbestos compensation bill.
Voted against requiring a uniform medical criteria to ensure asbestos claims were legitimate.
Voted to increase community development programs by $2 billion.
Voted to make Medicare part B premium subsidies a new entitlement.
Voted against paying off the debt ($5.6 trillion at the time) within 30 years.
Voted to give $18 billion to the IMF.
Voted to raid Social Security instead of using surpluses to pay down the debt.

Much as I’d have hoped that Gingrich would be the republican nominee, the odds now are non-existent of this occurring. Santorum is telegenic, has far less baggage than Gingrich, is a fiscal and social conservative, has blue-collar roots, is best suited to win over the Reagan Democrats, will capture a large part of the female vote based on family etc, and as favorite son, PA will fall into the red column.

Than why did Gingrich trump him ion all those categories in SC? Seems to me that Santorum is the one who cannot win in the general, because the only place he won is Iowa where no one showed up to vote.

Check out the Florida numbers again, Gingrich came in second, Santorum came in a very DISTANT third! That does not sound very promising to me.

Newt and Romney agree on too many issues for my taste.

Wow! Sounds like life in your alternate reality is WILD!

Romney is a gun grabbing, abortion pushing, homosexual approving liberal. Gingrich has NEVER been any of those things.

Take the train back to reality.

Well there's a winning strategy. Go after the second place guy who lost to the first place guy by 15%.

Maybe Santorum isn't as sharp as people give him credit for.

Up to this point I thought it just wasn't his time. Looks like he is trying to prove my theory.

Are you equating military service to a political climbing?

By voting in favor of many radical feminist funding efforts (against fatherhood), he generally voted against families.

Ron Paul is also part of the conspiracy to keep Newt from his rightful place. He won’t bow out either.

I’m not sure that I believe Santorum is really all that much against Romneycare, to tell you the truth. I mean, Romney care was enacted in 2006 yet two years later he endorsed the father of Romneycare and called Mitt a “true conservative”. I’m willing to bet when all is said and done Santorum will again endorse the so called “true conservative”.

Anybody that thinks Mitt Romney is anything close to a conservative deserves a bit more scrutiny.

So Newt cannot pick apart Romneycare without flying off the handle?

He's smarter than anyone on that stage with him. The problem is that when he speaks with the force of authority he is accused of being angry. All the frightened wimps think so.

Where was Newt during the impeachment of BillyBubba? With his mistress. Where were his priorities?

You wanna play those games? Where's Santorum? With his sick baby that will probably never be a teenager? Nope. He wants to be PRESIDENT. It's called AMBITION and it ain't pretty.

"Are you equating military service to a political climbing?"

If I had been, I would have said, "...Santorum is driven by the same love of country and sense of higher purpose..."

I did not. I said "similar". Many people place different things above their family; some are noble, others not so much. If Rick believes that he is the best candidate in this race and is best suited to be president to 300+ million Americans, than it would be wrong for him to slink away.

Many who are now criticizing Rick for not packing it in also criticized Palin when she announced she would not run, precisely for failing to recognize there were some things bigger than her family.

Whether Santorum is a stalking horse for the man he endorsed in 08, or not.

Santorum doesn’t have the ‘it’ factor, he isn’t close to being able to win a presidential nomination, why do you think he sits at the children’s table while Romney and Newt duke it out.

Romney wants Santorum to stay in this race, and to keep doing what he is doing, and to keep this from turning into a man to man race against the tea party guy.
