In July 1996, Mitt Romney helped locate the missing teenage daughter of a partner at Bain Capital.

"In July 1996, the 14-year-old daughter of Robert Gay, a partner at Bain Capital, had disappeared," the story reads. "She had attended a rave party in New York City and gotten high on ecstasy. Three days later, her distraught father had no idea where she was. Romney took immediate action. He closed down the entire firm and asked all 30 partners and employees to fly to New York to help find Gay’s daughter. Romney set up a command center at the LaGuardia Marriott and hired a private detective firm to assist with the search. He established a toll-free number for tips, coordinating the effort with the NYPD, and went through his Rolodex and called everyone Bain did business with in New York and asked them to help find his friend’s missing daughter. Romney’s accountants at Price Waterhouse Cooper put up posters on street poles, while cashiers at a pharmacy owned by Bain put fliers in the bag of every shopper. Romney and the other Bain employees scoured every part of New York and talked with everyone they could – prostitutes, drug addicts – anyone.

"That day, their hunt made the evening news, which featured photos of the girl and the Bain employees searching for her. As a result, a teenage boy phoned in, asked if there was a reward, and then hung up abruptly. The NYPD traced the call to a home in New Jersey, where they found the girl in the basement, shivering and experiencing withdrawal symptoms from a massive ecstasy dose. Doctors later said the girl might not have survived another day. Romney’s former partner credits Mitt Romney with saving his daughter’s life, saying, ‘It was the most amazing thing, and I’ll never forget this to the day I die.’

Like I said you go ahead and pimp for Romney.
I do not vote for liberals.
Romney does not have a conservative bone in his body.

I don’t have to.
I can even disagree with most of what he has done in politics. I probably do disagree, with everything but his prudent budgeting in Massachusetts (to the degree possible there).
But is it seemly for us to lose ourselves in outrage over these differences ? This anger serves only to degrade ourselves, ruin our reputation, and drive away allies.

You can play hypotheticals, but this is something that happened. And it was good. And other people may do good things too, and maybe they do them for people they dont know, but it doesnt diminish what happened.

If you are so afraid of Romney that you have to spin this as being bad because he had the motive of finding someone who was similar to him, then there is no point in further discussion.

From 2002 to 2006, when Romney was Governor, over 80,000 Massachusetts babies were butchered to death by abortionists. Romney did nothing whatsoever to try to save their lives.

What is it that you think a Governor could have done?

This is a story that has been at FR many times.

Anyone that was paying attention to the Romney threads in 2007 should remember this showing up repeatedly.

I don’t have to.

I asked you why you believe Romney is a conservative. That was your answer.

You could have saved bandwidth if you would have simply said: "I can't."

The original is a CHAIN E-MAIL!

No, it's not. I first heard this story in 2007 or 2008. Here's a contemporaneous article.

Romney is well qualified to be president. Too bad he's not conservative.

This is what I am concerned with -

“Romney is at war with humanity”
“as pure evil as Mitt Romney”

and the rest of the post.

This is sort of talk is unseemly, intemperate, irrational, prideful and un-Christian.

We are all sinners, we are afflicted with original sin, the defects of humanity that we can only try to overcome through the love of our Savior. I don’t see evil in that man, I just see a flawed human being like I am. Flawed in different ways certainly, and admirable in other ways.

Before we succumb to rage, and speak our rage, we need to stop and consider what WE are, our flaws and sins, and put this rage through a filter of humility. By the grace of God we can then not only avoid our own sins but we can much better persuade other people.

Well, it is evident why you support Romney, he doesn’t care about abortions either.
How sad for you that innocent life is of no consequence.

Romney is not my ideal candidate, but then again we don’t have a Ronaldus Maximus right now do we??

If Reagan were running today... FR would disown him as a RINO. Look at all the abortions he let happen. Look at the doubling of the debt. Look at his flip-flops... Heck he was a democrat and a union leader!

I don’t have to claim he is a conservative. He isn’t the sort of conservative I would like, whether or not he fits in that fuzzy category.

And it is very fuzzy - try making your concepts fit every conservative mentioned by Kirk (I strongly recommend “The Conservative Mind”).

It doesn’t matter anyway, he could be judged by the master ideological computing algorithm to be two steps to the left of Ted Kennedy.

The important point is that we are having a political discussion - you, me, and everyone reading this. We are trying to keep our collective temper (or we should be) in a trying time, and at the same time persuade other people to our way of thinking. Calm, rational, mature discussion is the proper way.

He ran as an Independent.

Hmmm that’s what Romney ran as in Massachusetts isn’t it?

Nope. Romney always ran as what passes for a Republican in Massachusetts.

That is a damning statistic.

For comparision, is there a site or source where one can get similar information, both absolute numbers and as a per cent of population, for the five most conservative gov's and 5 most liberal?

I would be interested in those numbers compared to Romney's numbers prior to using it as a club to beat him.

He is very likely more liberal than I am.

You aren't sure?

Does this refresh your memory about Romney, how close to him are you in regards to the homosexual agenda?

I am not unaware of my opponent’s considerable record in the area of civil rights, or the commitment of Massachusetts voters to the principle of equality for all Americans. For some voters it might be enough for me to simply match my opponent’s record in this area. But I believe we can and must do better. If we are to achieve the goals we share, we must make equality for gays and lesbians a mainstream concern. My opponent cannot do this. I can and will.

We have discussed a number of important issues such as the Federal Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), which I have agreed to co-sponsor, and if possible broaden to include housing and credit, and the bill to create a federal panel to find ways to reduce gay and lesbian youth suicide, which I also support. One issue I want to clarify concerns President Clinton’s “don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t pursue” military policy. I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share.

As we begin the final phase of this campaign, I need your support more than ever. By working together, we will achieve the goals we share for Massachusetts and our Nation.
Sincerely,
W. Mitt Romney

When Palin or the others lay the legal groundwork for $50 abortions, get back to me. In the meantime quit pimping for the one governor who made $50 abortions available in his state.
