Former Member of Russian Joint Chiefs of Staff: Russia Ready to Use Military Power to Defend Iran..
MEMRI TV ^ | 2-1-12 | Russia Today TV (Russia)

Posted on 02/05/2012 9:31:21 AM PST by DeoVindiceSicSemperTyrannis

Following are excerpts from an interview with Colonel-General [ret.] Leonid Ivashov, former member of the Russian Joint Chiefs of Staff, which aired on Russia Today TV on February 1, 2012:

Interviewer: Dr. Leonid, do you think that these preparations and very large maneuvers, which will soon be conducted by Russia, are meant as preparation for war, or rather, a military strike against Iran?

[…]

Leonid Ivashov: These maneuvers and training will demonstrate Russia's readiness to use military power to defend its national interests and to bolster its political position. The maneuvers will show that Russia does not want any military operations to be waged against Iran or Syria. I assume that the people in the West and in Israel who design the schemes for a large geopolitical operation in the greater Middle East region draw a direct connection between the situation in Syria and in Iran. Indeed, these two countries are allies, and both are considered guaranteed partners of Russia. The only question, therefore, is who they will try to destroy first as a stable country: Syria or Iran.

[…]

A strike against Syria or Iran is an indirect strike against Russia and its interests. Russia would lose important positions and allies in the Arab world. Therefore, by defending Syria, Russia is defending its own interests.

In addition, Russia is thus defending the entire world from Fascism. Everybody should acknowledge that Fascism is making strides on our planet. What they did in Libya is nearly identical to what Hitler and his armies did against Poland and then Russia. Today, therefore, Russia is defending the entire world from Fascism.

Yep we are going to get into World War III over Iran.

I would not be surprised if China pops in on it too.

Bottom line is that it will break our country financially and what will be left?

Gog and Magog. Could this be the beginning of the Ezekiel 38-39 War?

Nice bluff @$$hat...

You tried this in 73 with Egypt and it didn't work then either.

Most mistakenly believe the 62 “Cuban missile crisis” is the closest we've come to nuclear war.

In fact the 73 Yom Kippur war came much closer.

A financial even playing field! Our country is already deeply in debt and bankrupt, unfortunately it may be the only way to get this country back on track again. That is of course if we got into it to win it!

Russia is no longer a reasonable nation and is not a friend of the United States. They have gone in the pit of insanity.

Why is the U.S. alway “warning Israel against preemption”??

Just re-read where Kissinger did this in 73.

Israel has rockets landing in civilian neighborhoods, they have troops massing on their borders, and somehow we think it’s important that they don’t defend themselves?

Just like the gun-grabbers everywhere, “you have an obligation to be a victim, because if you defend yourself things might get out of hand”.....????

You are correct. The Russkies were already mobilizing 7 airborne divisions to drop in between the Syrians and Israelies, and were going to intervene whether we liked it or not...until Nixon placed all of our forces worldwide on alert. Obama is no Nixon when it comes to foreign affairs, in knowledge and guts. He's more akin to Chamberlain, and the Russians know it. Such weakness begets wars, not the strength and resolve shown by Nixon in '73.

So it is written...

“For they are the spirits of devils, working miracles, which go forth unto the kings of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.”

The 60’s and early 70’s were a really dangerous time. Most people have no idea.

See Red Star Rogue.

Yep. And Isaelis defending themselves would be portrayed as aggressive war-mongering Nazi-like child-killing haters, while the muszzies would be "just protecting themselves". Oy.

I’m trying to decide WHO would be the best person to have their finger on the button. I’ma thinking if it were you, not only wouldn’t the Russkies have a chance, they wouldn’t even have time to kiss it goodbye.
