The spot featuring Clint Eastwood echoes Obama's campaign themes. Coincidence?

The Super Bowl is televised advertising’s equivalent of the Cannes Film Festival, so White House political strategists must have been smiling when what’s generally being hailed as this year’s best spot -- the Chrysler "Halftime in America" commercial -- subtly echoed the themes of President Barack Obama’s reelection campaign.(snip)Just to ice the cake, the gritty two-minute spot featured actor/director Clint Eastwood, whose politics usually put him on the Republican side of the aisle. In the spot, Eastwood’s voice narrates an account of Detroit’s comeback and, then, when his unmistakably craggy face appears on screen,

Anyone that has viewed the disaster that is Detroit will know that this ad is BS. Eastwood may or may not be right-leaning - if he is, then he got sucked into a quasi-capaign ad for Barack Obama.

Clint Eastwood Was against the car company bailouts, but he's not against taking their (meaning our) dime to make this ad.

"But I’m a big hawk on cutting the deficit. I was against the stimulus thing too. We shouldn’t be bailing out the banks and car companies. If a CEO can’t figure out how to make his company profitable, then he shouldn’t be the CEO.”

“What piece?”

Nothing “high brow!” Guitar and pedal steel guitar. Managed to work 5 to 7 nights a week, with studio dates added during the daytime. Also had a small maintenance company to help pay the bills. I wish I had kept up the the French Horn though! I’d be better off now.

The first time I saw Chrysler's "Imported from Detroit" theme I had my hopes up that we had actually forced Detroit into Canada. No such luck.

It's halftime in America. We're down $15 trillion to nothing and the idiot quarterback we put in at the two minute warning fumbled twice already. Now he's strapping his helmet on to get back into the game. Let's just bench him in a hurry.

I looked at it more as a Pro-government union ad than anything else and it still doesn’t sit well with me.

Joseph Goebbels would be proud of what America has sunk to...
Turn on the TV and you get propaganda 24/7...

No doubt about it.. America WILL GET the President they deserve in 2012..
Treason and Sedition have all but become LEGAL..
And there is very little outrage because of it as well..

The Madonna “peep show” at half-time was humorous in a negative way..
Was like a Transvestite Musical... for Sodom...

I felt the same way..like he was talking past the car commercial part to the people.

My only disagreement, we’re not on the 50 yard line...we’re the Defense in a goal line stance. We need to hold the line, take possession and move back up the field.

I agree that people tend to look too hard at things and see things that are not there. However, in the coming days ahead look for Obama to co-op that commercial into his campaign speeches. In fact, bank on it.

...an account of Detroit’s comeback...probably the biggest lie of the year so far - Detroit's doing well because Japan was devastated by earthquakes last year - and they stole billions of dollars from car company bond holders to meet the operating expenses of the companies - Eastwood must be going senile to get nvolved in such dishonesty.....

This was a really crappy commercial spot. How about GM pay all of us back the money that was forcibly taken from us?

Detroit has nothing to be proud of. Nothing at all.

Pee ewe!

The script:

It’s halftime. Both teams are in their locker room discussing what they can do to win this game in the second half.
It’s halftime in America, too.

No it is closer to the end. They are getting ready for the closing curtain on the dream of liberty. The city on the hill is becoming the city tyrannized by those the hill.

People are out of work and they’re hurting. And they’re all wondering what they’re going to do to make a comeback. And we’re all scared, because this isn’t a game.
We are so deep in debt that it would take four generations to pay it off, if we ever stopped spending ourselves in more debt. A better analogy is that we have a great tradition as a team, but we are now losing 77 to 0 and the coach is calling for the quick kick and a prevent defense.

The people of Detroit know a little something about this. They almost lost everything. But we all pulled together, now Motor City is fighting again.
We had it extracted from us against our will. This is like saying the thief almost couldn't afford his new smart phone, but we all helped out when he took our wallet at gun point. Now the thief is calling his crack dealer again.

I’ve seen a lot of tough eras, a lot of downturns in my life. And, times when we didn’t understand each other. It seems like we’ve lost our heart at times. When the fog of division, discord, and blame made it hard to see what lies ahead.
Only it is not hard to see what lies ahead. Empires fall in history and they will again. When debt reaches critical mass and the currency has been debauched and the character of people corrupted it is obvious, the what lies ahead. The hope for the blessing of liberty on planet earth will be vanquished for a season.

But after those trials, we all rallied around what was right, and acted as one. Because that’s what we do. We find a way through tough times, and if we can’t find a way, then we’ll make one.
You can only spend so much of other peoples money and then you run out. We ran out many trillions of dollars ago!

All that matters now is what’s ahead. How do we come from behind? How do we come together? And, how do we win?
We cannot win unless we know what winning is. I define winning as securing the blessing of providence with liberty, self government, inalienable private property and life.

Detroit’s showing us it can be done. And, what’s true about them is true about all of us.
Yes Detroit is showing us that you too can be a lazy union slug, that it doesn't matter as long as you pay off the right folks. Those folks will take what is ever necessary from whomever they want to secure your own lazy self interest. Justice be damned, liberty be damned, private property be damned Detroit is showing us the way.

This country can’t be knocked out with one punch.
But it can die from suicide or a drunken overdose.

We get right back up again and when we do the world is going to hear the roar of our engines.
Or the crashing of hope and the fall of the West, like a drunk falling down the stairs at least the alcohol deadens the pain.

Yeah, it’s halftime America. And, our second half is about to begin.

Waterloo here we come!

I’m pretty sure Eastwood is a libertarian, and not a fan of Obama. People are looking too hard into things.

Dude, you're on the wrong threads for those kind of comments! Don't you know that the entire bowl game and its commercials were all about Obama?

It's true, I've been reading it all over this site......

In fact, I would go so far as to say that you and I were probably the only ones here who actually watched the game and enjoyed it...........LOL!

But then again, we were able to filter out all the subliminal messages about Obama, and that's not an easy thing to do.
