In this case “Catholic” means anyone who was ever baptised in the Church.
The Church is not a Democracy.
"Catholics" who practice contraception are not Catholic.

What percentage of drivers think automobile insurance providers should be required to provide coverage for routine oil changes? How about replacement engines for dumbasses who don’t change their oil at all?
I want insurance that only covers catastrophic situations, and no coverage for elective treatments of any kind. Accident, cancer, heart failure, etc. yes. Birth control, pregnancy, cosmetic surgery, routine preventive care, check-ups, etc., no. Can I get this kind of coverage? I doubt it.
The question should be posed as: "Do you think that government should be able to restrict the religious rights of selected groups to follow their own teaching?" This question will never be asked because it will not provide the results that pollsters like this seek to promote.
The questions are being posed as "gimme free stuff" questions. They need to be posed as violation of the Bill of Rights questions to understand how people might really feel about them.
The bishops are just starting to educate on this. The CINOs will never change, but many of the ignorant and wishy-washy will come around if only they issues are explained to them.
Up to this point many bishops and priests have been squeamish about explaining the facts of Catholic life to the people. The president has put them the Rock and a hard place, so silence and inaction are now impossible. Either they fight this or suffer censure from Rome as a matter fundamental to the moral teaching of the Church.

The only polls that matter are Obama’s internal polls. If he finds the Catholic bashing (which historically is good politics in the US)is causing the tiniest erosion of support, then and only then will these rules be rescinded. BTW is anyone surprised that this rule would come from an administration that actually celebrates the killing of innocent human life?
Canon Law: abortion actions and advocacy are self-excommunicating, thus no Catholics support abortion. If you are Catholic and dispute this, you are an ex-Catholic.

I have little doubt the Obamatrons polled Catholics on this issue before they decided to put their boot on the throat of the Church.
A whole lot of Catholics are pretty casual about their faith (to the extent they have any), and of those, most could care less about the Church’s position on contraception.
Traditional Catholics will be (justifiably) outraged by the actions of the jerkweed in the White House, but most of those will have written him off a long time ago.
The real question is whether a sizable percentage of the casual Catholics begin to view the regime’s actions as an act of disrespect against a group that they’re affliated with, even without a lot of firm conviction on their part.
Kind of like somebody insulting a cousin you’re not especially close to - you and your family can do that, but if some stranger tries to, that’s a slight to the whole family, and is not taken kindly. I don’t hold out a lot of hope that “marginal” Catholics will react that way, but I sure hope a bunch of them do.
