Santorum did explain his support of Spector.

1. He said the Bush admin asked him to to keep getting their judicial nominees through.

2. He said he owed Specter for support Specter had given him.

I agree with him on #1. Specter was the lead Republican on get judges confirmed. On #2, I see it, I understand it, but I’m not thrilled about it. What it boils down to is that Santorum can play the role of loyal team player.

But, if that’s the worst that he’s done, then so what.

Lets face it, Santorum is a "least worst" choice for conservatives.

I'm not sure about it; even if "he's a kook*" I think a Paul Presidency would be quite interesting... even if all he did was work on the Federal Reserve.
(But I think he'd make some good strides against the War on Rights... um, I mean Drugs, as well.)

Dueling Axes

* Besides, that's what the confirmation process is about; to allow Congress to make sure (the possibility exists) for some tempering personalities to be on the President's high-staff.

so long as he doesn’t revert back to his tendency to self-destruct with some crazy new idea or some terrible gaffe.

Or so long as the sun doesn't rise in the East.

Another important and very critical issue today concerns UNIONS. Santorum opposed the National Right to Work and voted against it. He supports govt regulation of wages too.

Agreed...unions are killing this country, however illegals and global warming regulation will do us in too.

I’ve finally come to realize that people like Rove and other GOP pundits are so against the Conservatives, the Tea Party ideas, and just about anything that has to do with good governance. They are for their candidates that will protect and extend the power of the establishment.

The problem is that so are most of our elected Republican Congressmen (Statists, looking for power and money). That does seem to leave us - the voter, out of the picture just a bit.

I also enjoy watching the GOP establishment squirm when their plans do not go as they assume. Maybe one day, we can actually continue and destroy this high-class group of news controllers. The facts continue to come out via the internet - at least until they control that also...

Sometimes I think that we are no better off than Russia when it comes to elections. We have just as much corruption during the vote along with stupidity at the ballot box.

magritte, the states were moving their primarys up and threatened with a loss of delegates. The RNC and state republicans tried to keep the election in March and Gov Nixon vetoed it! this inane election cost the state 7 MILLION in taxpayer money. Virginia changed some rules this year too and made it difficult for Santorum, Newt and Perry to get on the ballot. Newt will be on the March ballot. It was not a slam or intent to “diss” MO. The RNC, state Republican party need to get their shit together.

After states scrambled to move near the front of the presidential contest in 2008, the national Republican party warned that states jumping to the front in 2012 would lose half their delegates. Missouri tried to comply. The Republican-led Legislature last year passed a bill that would have repealed a 2002 law requiring the presidential primary to be held Feb.7 and instead scheduled it for March 6. But Democratic Gov. Jay Nixon vetoed the bill, citing objections to unrelated sections.

Believe it or not, things got even stranger.

Nixon added the presidential primary to the agenda for an autumn special session, and the state Republican Party urged lawmakers to reschedule the February vote for later. But Republican senators squabbled among themselves. Some insisted Missouri should stand fast and thumb its nose at the national party directive. Ultimately, nothing passed.

and Santorum’s record on immigration is not exactly the best either...Immigration

Voted against increasing the number of immigration investigators.
Voted to allow illegal immigrants to receive the earned income credit before becoming citizens.
Voted to give SSI benefits to legal aliens.
Voted to give welfare benefits to naturalized citizens without regard to the earnings of their sponsors.
Voted against hiring an additional 1,000 border partrol agents, paid for by reductions in state grants.

>>I have no beef with Rick on the issues. He is probably the closest candidate to my own views. I just don’t think he can win. For all his faults, I think Newt is more electable.

That says it for me. Newt is the only one who has a history of being able to challenge and go around the media. This is a key ability that I just don’t see from Romney or Santorum.

Since you’re a Gingrich supporter, I understand your rationalizing why he didn’t bother to make the effort in MO. Here’s what originally was said about Missouri from the Gingrich campaign. Note, the original reason was he didn’t want to waste the money.

(NEWSER) – Newt Gingrich is riding high in the polls but you won’t find his name on the ballot for Missouri’s Republican primary in February. Gingrich, unlike the other seven leading GOP candidates and three lesser-known ones, didn’t file the necessary paperwork by this week’s deadline. Convention delegates aren’t won in the Feb. 7 primary—those are chosen by caucuses in March—but Missouri’s primary is the only one in the country between Jan. 31 and Feb. 28 and can help candidates maintain momentum, the Los Angeles Times notes.

A campaign spokesman says the omission was deliberate, claiming the campaign decided not to spend the $1,000 filing fee to take part in a non-binding contest. “We do elections where you can actually win delegates, we don’t participate in beauty contests,” he said. Asked why all Gingrich’s rivals are taking part in the contest, he responded, “That’s what happens when you pay lawyers by the hour, they’ll get you on the ballot anywhere, even the ones you’re not supposed to be.”

Hey, didn’t we try that electable issue last time? Is it not time to try principle and see if we can actually win with that? If not, it’s just another loss but for principle this time.

Following too many political pundits... It does not matter how long they have held political office (if any), it is what they have voted for and against. It is also about their honesty and character while in office that matters.

Yes, I proudly support Newt Gingrich. In all honesty this was an absurd election. One month before the caucus we have a vote for a candidate that will recieve zero delegates. Still this was all a fiasco contributed by the RNC and Gov Nixon’s refusal to allow the republicans to have their vote in March.
I live in MO and there wasnt much of a turnout in our area. Alot of those that did show felt this was such a waste. There was one other issue on the ballot which is the only reason I even bothered to show up.
Love the unnamed spokesman in the article..lol. Newt missed the MO primary and it was posted on FR. He was NOT riding high in the polls at the time of the post. He did not have any PAC money either. He has my vote. MO should get their elections straightened out..period and the RNC needs to become better organized which is why the Fla election is still up in the air. GO NEWT!
