Archbishop Dolan urges Obama to back down on birth control
CBS News ^ | 2/9/12 | Corbett B. Daly

"This was a terribly misguided judgement," Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York said in an interview of CBS This Morning.

Dolan, who is set to become a cardinal later this month, said he met with Obama in the Oval Office late last year and was promised the White House would work with the Catholic church on a number of issues, including education, healthcare and charitable work.

"I am hoping that this massive negative reaction to this ruling, I am hoping that he will go back to those assurances that he gave me," Dolan said.

Good interview this morning with the Archbishop, soon to be Cardinal. It's missing some of the best quotes from the interview including this one when the host asks about polls showing that some Catholic women take contraception: "We're not into polls. We're into moral principles."

This mandate is unconstitutional and can NOT be enforced.

Let’s evaluate Satan’s commitment to Separation of Church and State.

Yes, Archbishop Dolan was being excessively charitable to Obama. He was acting like Obama is a normal, sincere human being.

Obama may back down until November 7th, but after that he will be full force for four years pushing his ultra-left wing agenda.

Dear Archbishop Dolan

Why would you even make a deal for “assurances” from a man whose legislative record shows consistent support for abortion

and worse, who voted TWICE against the live birth protection act because of the rationale that ministering to the dying needs of an aborted infant might cause the “mother” to have a conscience attack??

Just curious, Archbishop, what kind of terms and assurances would you expect if you ever dealt with the anti-Christ?

"This was a terribly misguided judgement," Archbishop Timothy Dolan of New York said"

The problem, though, is that "The One" is NEVER wrong. He may be surrounded by misguided Republicans, misguided Bishops, misguided Bitter Clingers, or misguided Israelis, and misguided Others, but he is NEVER WRONG.

He cannot back down.

These guys never learn. For centuries they’ve been trying to align themselves with power, first with royalty and more recently with the Democratic party. They’ve earned the outcome.

The 'Rats had some little retreat and somebody spilled the beans and said Bari wasn't going to back down.

Rumor has it he said if Romney can do it in Massachusetts, I can do it nationally.

Sounds to me like Dolan is trying to prop up Obama.

How can ANY thinking person, honestly, trust this occupier of the executive branch?

It doesn’t sound that way to me!

There no longer exists a reasonable social consensus in this country. Someday Archbishop Dolan will have to decide how to counsel a young conscience driven Catholic who is asked to take an oath “to uphold and defend the constitution” If Obama and his ilk prevail and the killing of innocent human life is “constitutional”, then how can a reasonable person take such an oath?

Having watched the whole interview, I think he was not pro-Obama overall. He basically said that Obama had lied to him when he assured him that conscience would be protected. He didn't use the word "lie", but that was the idea. He did say that he didn't understand why Obama had gone back on his promise to him. But he stood up for truth and did a good job handling the Lefties.

I can't imagine that he really is bewildered about Obama lying. It seemed to me more like a formal type of deference to the office of the Presidency. This deference is not something that I practice personally, but I understand why some people in the public eye have a need to do so. I think we should applaud the bishops for standing up to Zero, not attack them.

I agree with you and am SURE that he is using diplomatic language here for wise reasons....but that he is VERY aware of Obama’s anti-life agenda.

In the first place, the Catholic church deserves everything it has recieved from the King. They supported the OBOcare package and they pushed and proded to get the King elected. So, what, now they want to whine and say this isn’t fair. SHUT THE HELL UP. We the lowly un-intelligent ones tried telling you ignorant F—— that 2 years ago before you so lovinly gave OBO the B-J to get OBOcare passed.

Hey, Dolan-—too bad you don’t know when you are being lied to or can’t tell good from evil.

I believe there is an underlying and large social consensus in this nation that is uneasy or worse about the head that lies on the pillow at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue

However, we lack a reasonable and courageous leader and dark forces are aligned against us getting one

While not a Catholic, I hold some hope for the Pope to stand up against the darkness
