Fox News Poll: Santorum Surges Nationally After Three-State Sweep By Dana Blanton February 10, 2012

Rick Santorum has surged nationally in the race for the 2012 Republican nomination after his three-state sweep this week, while Mitt Romney has lost ground among GOP primary voters. In addition, most GOP voters say the nomination race isn’t over -- someone other than Romney could still win. That’s according to a Fox News poll released Friday.

The new poll was conducted over four nights this week -- Monday through Thursday -- so it provides a unique opportunity to compare Santorum’s support before and after his wins in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri. And the results are striking.

Click here to view full Fox News poll results.

In interviews conducted on Monday and Tuesday nights -- immediately before the news of his victories -- Santorum received the backing of 17 percent of GOP primary voters. That was well behind Romney (35 percent) and Newt Gingrich (26 percent), and slightly ahead of Ron Paul (14 percent).

In interviews conducted on Wednesday and Thursday nights -- after his wins -- Santorum’s support nearly doubled, which put him tied at the top with Romney for those two days at 30 percent. That’s an increase of 13 percentage points. Over the last two nights, Romney also received 30 percent, a drop of 5 points. Gingrich came in at 16 percent, down 10 points. Paul’s support held steady at 15 percent.

Looking at the results from all four nights of this week’s interviewing, Romney retains his frontrunner spot with 33 percent, followed by Santorum at 23 percent, Gingrich at 22 percent and Paul at 15 percent.

Wow. Rick complimented the Obummers for being married. THE TREASON!!! Your overproduced garbage video of weak attacks on Rick is silly. Do you really want to get into a battle over past associations between your guy Newt and Rick? Newt with Pelosi on Global Warming, Rev Al on Education, Hitlery on education? Newt working for Fannie and Freddie?

Feel free to tear down other stronger candidates, much like the Mittens campaign, to prop up your guy. I refuse to participate.

We don't need to. If you listen to Ricks speeches, they focus on the overbearing role of this Govt' and the loss of freedom.

Moderate and independent voters in the general election won't listen to a single Santorum speech; their information on Santorum's views will come from Obama attack ads.

So we are staking our hopes on a guy that couldn’t win his own seat in his own state?

Donal Trump has been cloned?

So what? The Regime is going to tar any of our candidates with lies and spin. Do you really think Newt isn’t going to be maligned in the press and by the Regime? That’s silly.

knock off the Santorum bashing

I won't

Jan 4, 2012 - The CATO Institute's David Boaz explains why there hasn't been a candidate more inimical to American political values than Rick Santorum since Hillary Clinton.

Santorum hasn't enough depth to shake off the "lunatic, right-wing fringe" paint.

Santorum doesn't come close to filling Reagan's footprint. He needs to articulate beyond social issues. He needs to convince me he has a plan and the courage to save this economy and our American reputation.

Reagan could withstand the "lunatic" paint because the people saw that he had a deep history: speeches, papers, executive experience as governor the country's largest state. Reagan also had the ability to make you feel strong and safe at the same time. You just knew he understood the world and America's place in it.

While flawed, the one who brings Reagan to mind (and I am old enough to remember the campaigns) whenever I listen to him IS Newt. I mean this. I have been posting since the start of this primary season that we needed to consider Newt.

He is conservative with a deep understanding of our constitutional republic, its history, its problems AND its assets. He has been baptized with fire time and again and he is still standing. Newt is the leader we need for these times.

I stand by that.

I hope others will too.

Oh, Newt would be savaged as well. But Newt has been a dead man walking for quite some time, and speculating about him in the general election is like speculating about whether Batman could beat Spiderman in a fight.

Reagan also was not running on social issues. He was running on optimism, anti-communism, and fiscal conservatism.

his unrelenting and often seen as sanctimonious pro-life

You neatly demonstrates why Libertarians will never win, in one sentence.

Nobody is ever going to win a national election by emphasis on being pro-life, either.

I am a Newt supporter and agree with everything you say about him, however, I will gladly support Rick as well. I honestly don’t understand why any Newt supporter would say that they will stay home if Rick is the nominee.

I have a couple of friends who used the same comparison when supporting OBama. Little known Senator from Illinois without a strong resume’ who turned out to be a great president. Just saying.

Did you listen to Santorum’s CPAC speech? Sounded like that’s what he is running on to me. Also, for freedom, against Obamneycare socialism.

These Santorum haters are a joke. Do they even know Newt’s record? Santorum is a far more consistent conservative. Even Rush Limbaugh says that and now I hear Mark Levin endorsed Rick.

First they say he’s not winning, so he needs to get out. Now that he’s winning they say they won’t vote for him. I suspect that they secretly want Romney or for Obama to be re-elected.

Newt has flamed out and cannot win due to high negatives. It seems to me these folks would be more productive if they threatened to hold their breath and stomp their feet. Their feeble efforts to post clipped together videos and skew Rick’s record is just like the Romney team. Yet they say how they hate him for the lies. Hypocrisy, plain and simple.

Well said.
If they stay home they may as well vote for Obama say they have no sense or could simply be liberals in denial
