Fox News Poll: Santorum Surges Nationally After Three-State Sweep By Dana Blanton February 10, 2012

Rick Santorum has surged nationally in the race for the 2012 Republican nomination after his three-state sweep this week, while Mitt Romney has lost ground among GOP primary voters. In addition, most GOP voters say the nomination race isn’t over -- someone other than Romney could still win. That’s according to a Fox News poll released Friday.

The new poll was conducted over four nights this week -- Monday through Thursday -- so it provides a unique opportunity to compare Santorum’s support before and after his wins in Colorado, Minnesota and Missouri. And the results are striking.

Click here to view full Fox News poll results.

In interviews conducted on Monday and Tuesday nights -- immediately before the news of his victories -- Santorum received the backing of 17 percent of GOP primary voters. That was well behind Romney (35 percent) and Newt Gingrich (26 percent), and slightly ahead of Ron Paul (14 percent).

In interviews conducted on Wednesday and Thursday nights -- after his wins -- Santorum’s support nearly doubled, which put him tied at the top with Romney for those two days at 30 percent. That’s an increase of 13 percentage points. Over the last two nights, Romney also received 30 percent, a drop of 5 points. Gingrich came in at 16 percent, down 10 points. Paul’s support held steady at 15 percent.

Looking at the results from all four nights of this week’s interviewing, Romney retains his frontrunner spot with 33 percent, followed by Santorum at 23 percent, Gingrich at 22 percent and Paul at 15 percent.

I do believe that Newt would have a chance against the MSM,

Ok. I am going to be fair here with you. You say that Newt can withstand the onslaught that will come on to Newt. Fair enough. Now answer me this truthfully. If you think that, then why was it that Newt folded like a wounded animal when Romney and MSM and Republicans all gained up on him. He feel apart in Iowa and South Carolina. If you don't think it will be a million times worse than I don't know what to tell you. Also Newt says that he cannot debate someone who tells lies. Obama will tell lies throughout the entire debate so how will he be able to debate Obama. The Lincoln-Douglas Debates will NOT happen. Obama will never agree to them and since he is the incumbent, he gets first pick on debates. So at most we will have is 3 and that might be way too high.

A society of moral men, strengthened by religious freedom. A society of increasing prosperity brought about by limited government and economic freedom.

Therein lies the problem, what would their solution be, since I doubt they ever conceived it would get this bad, not that they didn't believe it could, but hoped that through moral education and enlightenment it never would.

Jefferson's solution may be the only one left now. They never accepted Payne's new view, but many here do.

You know full well how politicians have to vote for cr@p thy don’t like. Reagan signed more of that cr@p into law than Rick ever signed onto.

"The government knows better than you how to make you happy. The government will control your life for the "good" of all".

No they don't but they should know how to keep others from making you miserable. But hey, after all it seems to be their goal to do the opposite.

While Newt Gingrich was Speaker of the House, earmarks nearly doubled to $14.5 billion.

Thanks for the honest answer.

I want the same things as you do in a candidate, and for that reason I have finally decided that Rick Santorum is our best choice.

The fact that some consider him a 'zealot' is not a negative in my book. You can't even print what some people think about Newt Gingrich, and that didn't dissuade me from seriously considering him as the candidate to best combat and beat Barack Obama. I have, however, finally decided that that person is Santorum.

I hope you recognize, even while posting that people are "Rickbots" that serious thought and prayer also went into our decision to support him.

I think our Founders would be surprised that we have lasted this long (especially without following Jefferson's edit about the Tree of Liberty)

Jefferson's solution may be the only one left now. They never accepted Payne's new view, but many here do.

Jefferson was more on the money about what it truly takes to keep our Liberties. It should be taught in every school in every grade level that government is an instrument of force and inherently EVIL. Government should never be viewed in a positive light.

As Washington so eloquently stated, “Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.”

As I see things playing out, I am hopeful that we do not fall into total collapse with bloody civil unrest. About ten days ago, I posted the following as the only reasonable way out of this mess

The true solution lies in the crisis of such magnitude that the "several States" gather and vote to dissolve the Federal Union. The current socialist Federal government can then be replaced by a strict Constitutional Republic.

The dissolution will not be pretty, but it will quickly accomplish the removal of almost all Federal Agencies, the firing are very large numbers of Federal parasites, the dissolution of all Federal Courts except the Supreme Court (to rid the lower courts of Marxists). Remember, the Congress created all the lower courts.

A reconstituted Republic can quickly rebound and unleash the energy of a free people.

My reading of history tells me a solution that is much different that Mark Levin's. He says we took 80 years to get here (socialism) and it will take 80 years to get back to Liberty. I say societies that are heavily socialistic cannot transition to Liberty over time. Liberty (from Socialism) can only be realized in a relatively quick time frame(few years)

In order to defeat the bureaucratic class, they must be dislodged all at once and in a short timeframe. If not, they will work around those seeking Liberty. The only way I see a solution for the U.S. is for the States to dissolve the current Federal union.

Now, the trillion dollar question is how do you get leadership at the State level with true political Warrior spine and second, the circumstances that would warrant such drastic action. Short of that, I think a long decline to a Socialist third world sewer is in our future.

[Ok. I am going to be fair here with you. ]

Wow! thanks for being so generous with your sanctimonious position here at Free Republic. I greatly appreciate you giving me such a generous reprieve!

But you must be forgetting that your equally sanctimonious candidate will not fare even remotely as well against the MSM as would Newt. You are selectively forgetting the spanking that Newt has historically already given to several of the biggest and considered the best MSM representatives to date.

You see, Newt has already demonstrated to the entire country, that he stands up for what he knows or believes. Your little disingenuous diatribes, don't get past the last period that ends them, while Newts, are still reverberating in the hearts and minds of millions of smart voters.

And this contest is far from over. Now, your candidate is going to have to put his money where his mouth is.

Wow, I see you are getting your talking points for your old friend and pal John McCain!

Now I see why you support Santorum. You make is sound like it was Newt who spent those earmarks. But Santorum spent far more in his own state, than Newt ever thought of.

You Santorum supporters are beginning so sound a lot like him. No wonder he will get his clock cleaned against Obama.

Rick Santorum is dead heat with Romney in PA, too.

Don’t forget, Rick won 4 races, out of 5 in PA.

Again, Rick is in a dead heat with Romney in PA.

I’m a woman, and only vote for pro-life candidates.

Don’t be afraid of pro-life candidates. Remember Ronald Reagan, and even George Bush is pro-life.

It doesn’t hurt to be a social conservative, not at all:

“Republican Bob Turner won handily over the Democratic candidate in a district that no a Republican has won since 1923. His opponent’s vote in favor of same-sex “marriage” in the New York legislature played an important role in the Republican’s victory.”
