For Some CPAC Viewers, Romney Doth Protest Too Much (Mitt's CPAC disaster)
American Spectator ^ | 2/10/12 | KYLE PETERSON

Mitt Romney gave a deeply conservative speech Friday at the Conservative Political Action Conference, but those who question the frontrunner's sincerity said it was all campaign and no conviction.

"It just doesn't bubble up like it does with Newt or Santorum," said Shawn Gregg, an attendee from Traverse City, Mich. "He's not convincing me. I just don't think he in his heart believes it."

It looks like Mitt's CPAC performance was unquestionably a disaster for Team Romney and the GOP-e.

I just listened to all 3 speeches by the presidential candidates. All I can say is, I will take any of them in a NY minute over the socialist in WH. But I would prefer Santorum as the nominee because he has almost no baggage the liberals can attack.

Yep, only decidedly more creepy.

If you don't walk the walk, you really can't talk the talk--at least not to those who know the language.

True, every time I hear romney, he says all the right buzzwords but it sounds like some flunkie reading a script for a tv commercial. You just know he doesn't give a shit.

Romney is a liar and a fraud.
Romney and BHO both support abortion
Romney and BHO both support gun grabs
Romney and BHO both support the homosexual agenda
Romney and BHO both support man made global warming
and on and on.........
There is not a dimes worth of difference between them.
I will not vote liberalism - period.

It's kind of amusing sometimes to hear Romney trying to sound conservative because his idea of conservatism is a caricature of reality. That's the reason he stepped into it by saying he didn't care about the poor. It would probably shock him to learn we more than care about the poor: we are or have been the poor.

Heard once a story about how Mark Twain cut himself shaving and let out a string of profanities. His very prim wife, hoping to shock him into civility, repeated his blue streak word for word.
Twain calmly turned to her and said, "you have the words dear, but you don't have the music."

That pretty much describes Mitt Romney playing conservative.

There’s been an ad for a Romney townhall meeting (or something like that) running on the Maine radio stations today. The word “conservative” was used several times including describing him as the conservative governor of Massachusetts. LOL. What a pile of garbage.

"Texas independent Anne Franklin said Romney was her top choice in 2008, but she's unsettled that he is apparently unable to close the deal with GOP voters. "He can't fire up the base. He's been running for six years, and all these other people keep surging," she said. "At the end of the day, when Republicans nominate conservatives, they win. When they nominate moderates, they lose."

That pretty much is the take-away from Mitt's latest effort.

Shep reported on FOX....that Romney used Conservative twenty five times in a twenty six minutes speech.

Basically Shep pointed out that Mitt was using a meme. A technique taught in any basic business class. Apparently MR things people need to be brainwashed to believe that he is a conservative.....Severely conservative.

I just sat through Ann Coulter’s CPAC speech. I, as a true Conservative, was truly ashamed by her elitist attitude, her condescending comments about Mr. Newt and Rich Santorum. This (c)onservative who swore if we choose Romney, we will loose! That of course is when she was backing Christy (yet another RINO). However, when Christy said no dice, this (c)onservative elitist went back to the other RINO, Romney. Coulter has no more credibility to me as a (c)onservative. Coulter also was the most partisan of all the speakers, and she too had to be negative.

I want a true Conservative, I want a leader that can really make bold changes in Washington as well as America. Santorum speaks a good (c)onservative game, however, look at his record in the Senate, it is pitiful with respect to a big government intrusion. Santorum was part of the late 90’s and early 2000 Senate where RINO Republicans took this country over the cliff in spending and more government. Open your eyes, read everything you can find on Santorum. He is truly not as (c)onservative as he makes himself out to be.

Mr. Newt is a true Conservative, the only candidate that has given WE THE PEOPLE a complete road map where he wants to take this country. Step by step, he has laid out his vision to renew America and renew the American spirit. Open you eyes folks…this is a very big election and we cannot afford to choose unwisely.

He used the word "conservative" thirty-something times.

A real conservative doesn't have to say the word "conservative" to project it.

Myth has to use the word because, since he doesn't really believe it, he can't convey the message.

And, he only resorts to the “I’m a conservative” crutch after he loses a few primaries and is feeling the pressure of losing his annointment by the GOP elite—renounce Romney/Obamacare, Mitt, that might help a little.

If you are a true to life conservative, there is really no need to tell anybody. They will know by the way you live. Kind of like being a Christian; you don’t have to talk the talk if you walk the walk.

People don’t understand who Romney is and why he would be the worst choice for President. People believe they want someone who has experience as a CEO and that is exactly what he acts like. He’s been bred that way. The reason he can’t be conservative is due to that CEO background. They are not inclined to have convictions or take stands because as a CEO they can’t afford to offend anyone. They have to be politically correct, play the role of a diversity champion and play to the special interests groups. That’s exactly why he governed the way he did in Massachussets. His CEO mentality required that he please all parties, not take a stand and offend anyone and partner with Ted Kennedy of all people. That’s why he can’t admit the obvious that his Romneycare is Obamacare. That he ushered in gay marriage and on an on. That’s what a good CEO would do, be inclusive and above all thing be politically correct. He would be unable to govern as a conservative as he has shown in Mass. Spend time in any Fortune 500 company and you’ll quickly understand the mindset.
