She planned a comeback - but we’ll never know now if it could have been.

Let’s remember her as a classy and beautiful lady who graced us with so many wonderful songs - and her Star Bangled Banner rendition in 1991 - that is best any one ever gave of it, period.

It makes one proud to be American. Yes, its sad she died so young. But her face, voice and music has won a place in our hearts. What she left us will always be treasured.

Whitney Houston’s suffering is now over and she is one for the ages. Whitney Houston - RIP!

Well, yeah.

Her sales for Arista records, both in albums and singles/mp3 downloads, are way up.

Meanwhile, 4 floors down, the pre-Grammy show honoring Clive Davis, founder/chairman of Arista, is going on while Whitney Houston’s body is still in her hotel room, having been found in the bathtub. And her fans are gathered outside, singing.

Breitbart’s reference to Dadaism is a propos.

I understand your sentiment, but you are splitting hairs. It’s a tragedy for her daughter and family - not just her death, but the whole string of events that led to her death. We are all flawed, some more than others, so show a bit more empathy. Coldness is never attractive.

Sorry, but I have no “empathy” for a crack head who chooses drugs to life and leavebytes 19-year-old daughter with one parent- Bobby Brown. Let’s try to keep this.reality based at least.

“What did she see in Bobby Brown in the first place?”

Answer: Bird of feather!

To wit, I used to work with a gentleman that lived in the same Queens neighborhood as Whitney when she was growing up (until she became famous). His son was a very good friends with Whitney, too. I recall asking him (in 1999) how the hell Whitney could go from being such a sweet and decent person to marrying a thug like Bobby Brown and then becoming a total wreck. His reply to me was that Whitney was never the sweet and wonderful person that the media portrayed her as. Rather, he stated that she had been using drugs (weed and cocaine) long before she became famous. He said her situation didn’t suprise him at all, but was rather suprised it took until 1999 for her to self-destruct because he believed it would have happened within a year of her first big hit 1987 (When will I know).

Agreed. See my post #245 on this thread.

All this outpouring of sympathy for a ghetto crack-head is making me sick. It was the same type of pseudo sympathy that got Obama elected.

“I saw her at Sweetwaters above Hells Kitchen in 1983 I think...very young and cute..nice pipes...”

That's the time I remember her from ('83-'84). Very nice looking young lady and as you said - “nice pipes”.

Not my style of music, but the girl could sing.

Reminds me of a very young gifted artist , Amy Winehouse, who also lost her life to alcohol and drugs. Although Witney certainly lived long with her addictions.

But my understanding is off stage both these women could be pretty rough and tumble woman themselves and hung with some rough characters.

Too bad they couldn’t have made other choices in life....sad to see life snuffed out as this.

Alcohol poisoning took her life in the end...but drugs destroyed her body long before that as was explained by her
doctor and Winehouse’s father confirmed this.

BTW Winehouse began drugs at a young age....about 15 I believe....she was high from the get go of her career in music.

Winehouse too started using drugs young.....I think what gets irritating for some is when they go on to become stars etc. and it’s played as if stardom, or Hollywood, or a bad person in their life brought it on...when it was a budding problem long before they reached stardom. They went to stardom WITH the problem.

There’s an interview with Winehouse at the beginning of her stardom where she admitted people THEN were trying to caution her about her ‘sustance abuse’...and she laughed...saying she probably shouldn’t have mentioned that on national TV.

Sure, Lindsay`s very likely aware of it, but like the rest of them, she is absolutely convinced this will never happen to her... that she “can handle it.”

...”Sorry, but I have no “empathy” for a crack head who chooses drugs to life and leavebytes 19-year-old daughter with one parent- Bobby Brown. Let’s try to keep this.reality based at least”...

It is a sad fact that too many Americans like living in La-La Land where they can live a virtual life without an education where the government or someone else is expected to take all of the responsibility and bear all the consequences for their behavior. Unfortunately, beautiful, gifted Whitney who came into this world with advantages human beings hardly ever get, decided that wasn’t enough..The drugs gave a “high” that her God-given benefits could not. Evidently, talent, fame and fortune are a lethal mix for some..Just look at history..Marilyn Monroe, Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Amy Winehouse, Demi Moore, Lindsey Lohan, and, now, Whitney Houston..I personally believe this is a much bigger problem than we know within the world of entertainment, politics, media and, yes, academia, medicine and psychology, which would boggle our minds if we knew. Addicts refuse to admit they have a problem and if I hear the media try to convince us that Whitney was just a victim and not responsible for her fate, I will believe they are covering for themselves or someone else they know. The most important part of Whitney’s life and example is that she has now sent a message to minions of other addicts to turn their lives around as soon as possible and to begin to pass on something lasting to those who come after. Otherwise, they could face her fate. I guarantee you that Whitney’s Mom and her family have grieved and worried about her for years and I’ll bet most of them tried everything they knew to help her. Now, their fears have become reality..Pray for them..

Whitney Houston had such a clear and powerful voice with such range.

I will never forget that Super Bowl rendition of The Star Spangled Banner. It was inspirational!

I was in a big room with many people watching that performance.

She sang and people jumped up and started major applause.

Her later years were such a waste and the dope ruined her voice. But her beautiful voice will always be remembered.

RIP

Checked on Dionne Warwick’s biography (age 71) - she’s NOT Whitney’s aunt (as I had always believed) she is her cousin.

From Wiki:
(who is the mother of Warwick’s cousin, Whitney Houston).

What did she see in Bobby Brown in the first place?

The same thing every woman sees who puts up with abusive relationships.....

I have a niece who suffered 15 years of abuse from her now ex-husband. She was once asked what she sees in the guy and her answer was "he's exciting"........

That was during the time an old high school friend of hers returned to town. During school, he was just a nice gangly nerd and friend of the family....Upon his return, he was a tall, muscular hunk with an ivy league degree and was being groomed to take over the family's multi-million dollar corporation. He was a wonderful, respectful young man who would have walked to the ends of the earth for my niece but she wouldn't have anything to do with him because "he was boring"......

Women, go figure.....

Ofcourse. I am not a fan of Whitney, not my kind of music. But I do remember the first time I heard her speak off the PR script—I was shocked. Completely ghetto. She could turn it off when she needed to but when she didn’t there was no mistaking who she really was.

Thanks for posting this. It was the best rendition of the National Anthem I have ever heard. She didn’t try to jazz it up; she just sang it from the heart. And it went to the heart. Her premature death defines the word “tragedy.”

“She planned a comeback - but we’ll never know now if it could have been.”

Thought I had just read Saturday morning somewhere that Simon Cowell had offered her a spot on one of his shows, it seemed to hint he was trying to rescue her. Sounds logical if the previous post about her recent activities is true.
