Posted on 02/14/2012 1:45:56 PM PST by NYer
RUSH: This is from Rayford, North Carolina. Carolina Journal. I'm gonna read it to you exactly as it printed out here: "A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because a state employee told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious. The girls turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips and apple juice did not meet US Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day."
Again, let me read this to you again: "The girls turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips and apple juice did not meet US Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day." There are federal agents inspecting lunch boxes? See, I don't have kids. You heard of this? You heard of this, Snerdley? I know you don't have kids that you know of, either. I've not heard of federal agents inspecting lunch boxes. And, furthermore, I've not heard of agents declaring that what's in them is not nutritious enough and throwing them out and substituting three chicken nuggets.
"A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because a state employee told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious. The girls turkey-and-cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips and apple juice did not meet US Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day." Again, let me read this to you again: "The girls turkey-and-cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips, and apple juice" were thrown out "did not meet US Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes...
"The Division of Child Development and Early Education at the Department of Health and Human Services requires all lunches served in pre-kindergarten programs -- including in-home day care centers -- to meet USDA guidelines. That means lunches must consist of one serving of meat, one serving of milk, one serving of grain, and two servings of fruit or vegetables, even if the lunches are brought from home. When home-packed lunches do not include all of the required items, child care providers must supplement them with the missing ones. The girls mother -- who said she wishes to remain anonymous to protect her daughter from retaliation -- said she received a note from the school stating that students who did not bring a 'healthy lunch' would be offered the missing portions, which could result in a fee from the cafeteria, in her case $1.25.
"'I don't feel that I should pay for a cafeteria lunch when I provide lunch for her from home,' the mother wrote in a complaint to her state representative... The girls grandmother, who sometimes helps pack her lunch, told Carolina Journal that she is a petite, picky 4-year-old who eats white whole wheat bread and is not big on vegetables. 'What got me so mad is, number one, dont tell my kid Im not packing her lunch box properly,' the girls mother [said]. 'I pack her lunchbox according to what she eats. It always consists of a fruit. It never consists of a vegetable. She eats vegetables at home because I have to watch her because she doesnt really care for vegetables.'"
Do you believe this? I do! The food Nazis -- and, by the way, this is Michelle (My Belle)'s program: No Child's Behind Left Alone. Folks, what is going on here? Do you know what frightens me? This has probably going on and has been good guy a lot longer than I know because I don't have children. I wonder: How many people, how many parents are acquiescing to this? "When the girl came home with her lunch untouched, her mother wanted to know what she ate instead. Three chicken nuggets, the girl answered. Everything else on her cafeteria tray went to waste. 'She came home with her whole sandwich I had packed, because she chose to eat the nuggets on the lunch tray, because they put it in front of her,' her mother said. 'You're telling a 4-year-old. "Oh. youre lunch isnt right," and shes thinking theres something wrong with her food.'" What is wrong with a turkey sandwich and a banana?
Take a break. What do you mean, I don't care about the children? Don't tell me that! That's BS.
RUSH: By the way, at West Hoke Elementary School in Rayford, North Carolina, every student had their lunch box inspected. And I think every student failed in having a nutritious lunch by the agent in charge, which is probably an SEIU union cafeteria worker.
RUSH: Lucas in Boone, North Carolina. Welcome to the EIB Network. Hello.
CALLER: Greetings from the People's Republic of North Carolina.
RUSH: Thank you, sir.
CALLER: About eight months ago my wife and I decided to enroll our son in daycare here in North Carolina, and I got this huge packet of sheets that I had to fill out, and they, you know, field trip permission slip, take your photo permission slip, and one of them was, "By signing this you agree that you'll meet the state's requirements for a preschool lunch," even though I'm packing it. And it says I have to have six ounces of milk or a milk substitute, four ounces of meat or a meat substitute, three ounces of grain, three ounces of vegetable, three ounces of fruit, and goes on and on and on. And I did not sign it and I fought about it with them and they pointed me to the state official that I could talk to, and they told me that, "If your son doesn't like milk just pack it anyway and we'll dump it out for you and then you can pack something else." And I said, "Do you know how much a gallon of milk costs?" And they said, "Well, that's the rules and you have to follow 'em if you want to be in daycare." So now I've got the government telling me that I'm not smart enough to feed my own child.
RUSH: Yep. Yep. North Carolina, same state as the kindergarten requirements I just described.
CALLER: It's unbelievable.
RUSH: Same state. And, I'll tell you what, this is all coming from Michelle Obama. There are agents in preschools, kindergartens in North Carolina examining the preschool students' lunch boxes. State agents!
This was so XXXXXX, I would have been VERY Hot to say the least. Wake the Hell Up America.
Oh good grief. We have to get the Obamas OUT of the WH!!!!
I hate Rush’s “Michelle My Bell” nick name. Not derogatory or degrading. Not funny. No oomph. “Moochelle”, “Michelle the Moocher”, much better.
Just what we need in this country,
more bureaucrats with unaccountable authority
that need to justify their job.
I fear that if this would have been my child there would have been an agent getting a severe beatin!!
If the Republicans ran Attila the HUN against the MUSLIM Terrorist now occupying the OVAL OFFICE, I would vote for Attila the HUN!! Federal Food Police being paid an average of $134,000 a year to inspect Kid’s Lunch Boxes!!!!!!!
Makes me sick to my stomach!!!
Sent the "note" back with payment. Include one of these...
Tell them they can keep their "change" as well.
It’s Raeford, NC not Rayford, NC.
The transcriber can’t tell the difference between Ray & Rae.
And they gave her chicken nuggets instead?????!!!!!! Ever seen or read how they’re made??
let them know you care: firstname.lastname@example.org
Listen people, this is not about obama. THis is not about the government trying to take away our freedom. This is about money pure and simple.
School lunches are BIG MONEY. They’ve figured out just about every possible way to expand school lunches. They let poor kids eat free. THen they started serving breakfast. Then they started serving supper. There’s no way for them to expand now...UNLESS...they make it MANDATORY...make it impossible for anyone to bring sack lunches with them. Pretty soon they will want to feed your kids on the weekends and during summer break.
Talk about being sick to your stomach. I’m sure the processed chicken nuggets were alot healthier than a turkey sandwich.
We need our freedom back. The Federal Government is out of control.
Mind your own business Obama and FUBO.
IF my kids were still in school here is what I would do. I would sit them down and explain to them why they would not be returning to school and I would tell the school the same thing. Then I would tell them they would be home schooled and that we would be moving to another country and tell them why.
This sh$t is out of control and big fat butt MO is an angry b*tch that needs to keep her nose out of our lives. What OUR kids eat for lunch is none of her damn business and she needs to take a look at her fat butt in a mirror and while she’s at it check out what a little porker her youngest rug rat is.
So we have the food police, obesity police, speech police, helmet police, seatbelt police, carseat police, toilet police, light bulb police, fireplace police (in CA), gun police, mpg police, energy police, plastic bag police (CA)....feel free to add to the list - I’m steaming.
You couldn't have a better example of why government is too big and intrusive. Reagan would have used this personal, real example in a debate as a example of what needs fixing.
Folks, get your kids out of the government run socialist indoctrination centers.
Starve the beast.
Let’s not forget that public school cafeteria workers are unionized. These rules are a sop to union workers so as to preserve their jobs, wages, and benefits.
If you think this about nutrition or even quality or even the children you are missing the point.
I thought Chicken Nuggets were that part of the Chicken that went over the Fence last. lol
The pain that would have been raised if it had been a Ham & Cheese sandwich or a PB-n-J.
“You couldn’t have a better example of why government is too big and intrusive. Reagan would have used this personal, real example in a debate as a example of what needs fixing.”
That’s because the GOP is hardly discernible from the dems. When the gop has a perfect opportunity to cut them off at the knees they back off like the gutless wonders that they are. I read Boehner pulled out of fast/furious when Issa was ready to charge H with perjury.....weenies all of them.
Actually, I hate to burst your bubble, but you’re wrong (you have UNDERestimated our nanny state). The schools in many places already have to offer school lunch (lunch and dinner I have heard, but not yet breakfast) during the summer and I just heard a month or two ago about a program which was in pilot to pack bags of food for children to take home over the weekend!
But, you are absolutely right in your post (setting aside the ridiculous programs you may not have been aware of yet). The goal is ALWAYS money and by virtue of money, dependency and control. Food affects kids behavior more than anything else, I dare say, including discipline. When the body is unsound, the mind is unsound. If your body is out of whack, your mind is out of whack and discipling unfocused druged up, sugared up kids is next to impossible.
The endgame is total control. Government teaching kids early to be unable to make choices, and removing dietary option except for nasty food (much of it engineered to be addictive), most of it devoid of nutrition, so that they can control the masses. The fringe benefit is to teach kids their parents are too stupid to mind what they do and don’t eat, teaching them to be good little George Soros-type “Hitler Youth”. They started it with the global warming garbage, it’s now moving to the food stage. Watch for child abuse charges to come.
An appeal to all: Start growing a garden and homeschool your kids, TODAY.
School breakfast has been around a very long time.
“IF my kids were still in school here is what I would do. I would sit them down and explain to them why they would not be returning to school and I would tell the school the same thing. Then I would tell them they would be home schooled and that we would be moving to another country and tell them why.”
(This post isn’t just to you, but I’m responding to an excellent point you made):
I would never, ever, ever, subject my kids to public school. Sending kids off to communist indoctrination camps IS tantamount to child abuse. I watched the argument here on FR for a long time, and didn’t get involved, but I dare say it now: If you put having marginally extra income over the well being of your child, you are an unfit parent. I’m not talking about families with a disabled/deceased parent, I’m talking about people wanting the luxury of having extra things, etc. If debt makes it impossible, either go bankrupt and start over right, or change your habits and fly straight, spending several hours a day de-indoctrinating your kids. Research shows that after expenses you don’t make much more having two parents work, than one (IIRC it was about $1500-$2000 per YEAR).
I’m against socialism of any kind, but if we have to deal with it, I’d rather look at it realistically. Entitlements are going to bankrupt us, within a few years. Absolutely bankrupt us. I’d rather people take the food stamps and pull their kids out of schools (which I have to pay for anyway, through socialism), and do everything they can to get off the welfare programs while teaching their kids correct principles, than to have them sit in the indoctrination camps, mooching off our dollars anyway AND making a good little communist to vote themselves more of our money in future years, and setup dictators. Not to mention that it’s also supporting the teachers, their union goon thugs, and funneling money to corrupt politicians. TAKE AWAY THE EXCUSE: “It’s for the children.”
Oh, I know that. I’m referring to the breakfast during the summer, not breakfast during the school year. I was saying I know that in the summer they serve lunch and dinner, but am not sure about the breakfast during those 3 months.
Heck kids were getting their doughnuts and chocolate milk when I was in school, decades ago! My dad recently told me that at my nephew’s school (my parents raise my sisters’ kids), that they bring around trays of poptarts and doughnuts to all the classrooms during the first hour of school. And that if they don’t eat them all (they make several for each kid), that they let them wrap them up and eat them all day long. Just what kids need, and endless supply of poptarts while trying to get them to pay attention in class! Ridiculous.
“You can’t force them to eat what they don’t want.”
Sur you can, you just don’t buy any of the things that are bad for them. But so few parents have the self discipline to actully eat properly, they surely can’t teach someone else to. Remember 70% of americans are overweight, with over 30% being obese. The problem isn’t with kids, it’s with parents. And let’s not forget that 15-20 years ago, they themselves sat in the indoctrination camps they now send their children to.
When I was in gradeschool, lunch was like prison. We got a tray with various dents in it and each dent got a scoop of something. Desert was either jello or pudding except on fridays, then it was either a small square of yellow cake or a scoop of cobbler of some kind.
I agree. Get your kids out of public schools. Grandparents, you may have to help. But you'll be glad you did.
You cant force them to eat what they dont want.
You sure can. You don’t give them what they want, and eventually they will eat whatever you give them.
Sounds like we're living .... where?
10 years ago, my daughter was still in HS and had a NYS "Junior" drivers license that entitled her (at that time) to drive to and from an after school job. At my insistence, she obtained a letter from her employer stating that she was employed by them and listing her (evening) work hours. Then, one night, the dreaded phone call came; she had been in an accident and the police were on the scene. I drove over and arrived, just as the police officer finished issuing her two tickets - one, for passing on a one lane road and the 2nd for driving after dark with a Junior drivers license. I asked my daughter to show the officer the letter from her employer. After reading it, he shrugged his shoulders and disqualified it since she had a Junior NYS drivers license.
Now I know the laws continue to increase but the law authorizing holders of Junior NYS licenses has been on the books since I began driving (more than 40 years ago). Surprised at his ignorance of this law, I held my ground. He stepped away, opened the door of his county issued police car and extracted a book. At first glance, I thought it was a Bible! The book was massive in size and just as thick. No ... it was the most current issue of NYS driver laws. He rapidly thumbed through it, declared that he saw no law allowing Junior drivers to drive after dark, then handed the two tickets to my daughter.
When I complained, the officer again shrugged his shoulders, said he was from Iowa and couldn't wait to leave NYS. When my daughter (and I) showed up at court on the date of her hearing, the court threw out the 'driving after dark' charge .... because she had the letter proving she was validly employed at the time of the accident, which is in conformity with NYS law.
The nation we love has turned into one filled with federal laws that govern us from the time we wake until the following day. Not to be outdone, the states in which we reside, have issued their own laws. How is a proud American to keep track of ALL these laws?! These are the same tactics employed in socialist nations where secularism rules and government is their god.
It is time to take back our nation and our states!
“Thats because the GOP is hardly discernible from the dems. When the gop has a perfect opportunity to cut them off at the knees they back off like the gutless wonders that they are. I read Boehner pulled out of fast/furious when Issa was ready to charge H with perjury.....weenies all of them.”
There is NO difference between the Democrat and Republican parties. In fact, they freely swap sometimes. There never is a difference between a two party sytem. The fact is, that when you have the option of the lesser of two evils, you always get evil. Look at this election. We have Republicans left in in the primaries (Paul is a libertarian masquerading as a republican), and ALL of them are talking about expanding government, or trying to maintain it at nearly the size it is. I don’t want to fix social security, I want to end it. I don’t want to fix medicaid, I want to end it. There are no small government Republicans running for office, although of the three, I think the best is Newt. I don’t love him, but if his actions were to meet his words (never have seen a politican’s whose did) I certainly would take him over the others!
Our problems come from an apathetic public. And THAT is fueled by the public education system, as outlined by Yuri Bezmenov/Edward Griffin, the KGB defector that explained the whole plan decades ago.
PBnJ? Ham and Swiss?!
Off to the GULag with you, comrade.
Wow. When I was a kid growing up in the 70s, in SoCal, I brought my lunch with me to school, in my oh-so-cool Six Million Dollar Man lunchbox.
Sometimes bologna and cheese, PBnJ, occasionally liverwurst with cheese (yeah, I liked liverwurst, and I still do; I was a weird kid, I guess), usually a small bag of chips, a banana, and a little can of Welch’s grape juice or apple juice, or sometimes I’d buy a milk.
From time to time, I’d buy lunch at the cafeteria as well. Tostadas, burritos, tacos, mac and cheese.....
Why, it’s a miracle I’m still alive, after eating all that most “unhealthy” food in my youth. /s
You cant force them to eat what they dont want.—You sure can. You dont give them what they want, and eventually they will eat whatever you give them.
Exactly. I never understood weak willed, and weak minded parents that didn’t know how to get their 5 year olds to eat vegetables. I mean, I understand that they ARE weak minded and willed, but I could not fathom living with a 5 year old telling me what they will and will not eat. Ludicrous! My parents took this approach (which I have improved upon): There was always fruit out on the table, banas, apples, oranges (occasionally peaches and pears, only in season), which I could eat at any time. When breakfast or dinner was made, the choice was, “You can eat what I made, or a bologna sandwich, that you make yourself.” I have always hated bologna, and never took up the offer (we just had it because dad liked it). The biggest part was that my dad would sit with us (mom was bedridden) and eat and talk about our day. He’d teach me about things and draw diagrams and talk about work, and I’d never give anything in exchange for that. Heck I ate a lot of things I didn’t like, but we didn’t have a lot of money and I was grateful to have anything. Before my mom married my dad (adopted), be barely survived off of help from family and our church during holidays (United Methodist). I remember fighting over beans as a kid, and since I was smallest, if I didn’t eat fast my siblings would take my food. Life got better though, and we made it. And I’m grateful that God helped us out by sending my dad to take care of us, and help mom out.
With reference to:
“When I was in gradeschool, lunch was like prison. We got a tray with various dents in it and each dent got a scoop of something. Desert was either jello or pudding except on fridays, then it was either a small square of yellow cake or a scoop of cobbler of some kind.”
I am from Las Vegas (in Clark County, the largest school district in the country), and when I was a kid, everything came to the school pre-packages (like a TV dinner), in some industrial plant somewhere else in the city. The lunch people just warmed up the food (or set out the cold food, there were always two options, a cold ham and cheese/turkey and cheese, and a hot rotating meal). Man that food was terrible. I remember that once or twice a month there was food I wanted to eat, other than that I drank the milk and ate the fruit and brought my own food or bought snacks (equally bad, but tasted good, and were free when we did good in class, as we got vouchers for the snack shop for good grades). Since my parents actually paid for my lunch (I was not on a free lunch program), the lunch people tried really hard to get me to eat their food. If I had known better, I’d have packed my lunch. Now I try and grow as much of my own food, because I’m tried of the processed garbage. A little is ok, but when it’s the bulk of your diet, wow its hard on the body.
Amen, and Amen. There was a thread posted earlier in the year that said there were tens of thousands of new laws going into effect this year (as every other year), accross the nation (I believe it was 40,000). There are something like 10,000 pages to the Federal criminal code. There are so many laws, it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to know all of them let alone keep all of them. Consider that the avergae person knows about 3,000 words in their native language, maybe 5,000 if they are particularly literate/verbose (say a journalist, or lawyer). There are so many laws, that people commit on average 3 felonies per day, at the Federal level—alone!
And you’re right, the states have their own gaggle of laws. God did not intend for man to be ruled with an iron fist. There’s no choice, no growth, no “nothing” under that life. It’s merely an ever increasing living hell. And people need to wake up, now.
You got me thinking...I can’t remember ever having fresh fruit in a school lunch. I don’t think we ever got it. Apple sauce. Canned peaches. Pineapple rings. That’s about all I remember.
When I went to public school in NYC in the 1960s, Friday's were fish sticks for lunch.
I bet you can't get away with that today, what with the focus on "separation of church and state."
Recently, I have decided that government schooling is soooooo evil; is such a spiritual, emotional, and physical abuse to the child; and such a serious threat to our nation; that I will no longer have a government teacher for friend. I am **done** with government teachers.
I don't have abortion clinic workers for friends and I won't have government teachers for friends. They are either too evil, too stupid, or too much of a Useful Idiot to be a friend.
However,....There are a few government teachers who do have a true calling to teach in the government schools, however, these teachers fully expect to be quickly fired. Also, they are very pointedly plain in **warning** parents NOT to send their children into these godless communist indoctrination camps. They absolutely **never** defend government schooling, and they are actively working, on a political level, to see that all government schooling is permanently shut down.
If you know of a government teacher who claims to be “called” by God to teach in the government schools and isn't doing the above, then they are likely “called” by a paycheck and pension and not by God.
How many WTFs can one sentence generate? I'll just go with the fundamental one, WHY ARE WE PAYING BUREAUCRATS TO INSPECT PRESCHOOLER LUNCHES WHEN WE'RE BROKE?
Just one more way that government schools resemble prisons.
Prisoners get state issued institutional food. Now kids get state issued institutional food.
The entire **goal** of government schooling is, and always has been, to produce compliant and docile prisoners of the state.
I remember when schools first started serving breakfast and there was cheese toast.. mm m m. 40cts and a carton of chocolate milk for 10cts.
Now THAT was breakfast.
To be honest, the only bologna I ate when I was a kid was from beef.
Neither of my parents ate much pork; bacon occasionally, liverwurst, but only because my mom liked it too; my dad hated it. Pork chops; never. Hot dogs; beef hot dogs. My mom was Lutheran (Swedish) and my dad a former Catholic.
Even today, I don’t each much pork. Just as liverwurst or bacon. I prefer kosher hot dogs.
I do recall though a Jewish kid I grew up with, and that was where I first learned about Kosher (and halal); he told me “Jewish people and Muslim people don’t eat pork, because it’s unclean” and I didn’t know he (being Jewish) couldn’t eat cheeseburgers; fortunately, my dad knew when he came over one for a backyard BBQ. Saved me some embarrassment.
It just occurred to me; think the DofA will be regulating backyard BBQ’s next?!
Eat your peas. BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
“A preschooler at West Hoke Elementary School ate three chicken nuggets for lunch Jan. 30 because a state employee told her the lunch her mother packed was not nutritious. The girls turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips and apple juice did not meet US Department of Agriculture guidelines, according to the interpretation of the agent who was inspecting all lunch boxes in her More at Four classroom that day.”
How many WTFs can one sentence generate? I’ll just go with the fundamental one, WHY ARE WE PAYING BUREAUCRATS TO INSPECT PRESCHOOLER LUNCHES WHEN WE’RE BROKE?
I’ll go you one better; WTF ARE WE DOING INSPECTING PRESCHOOLERS LUNCHES AT ALL?
Even if we were running fifteen trillion dollar annual SURPLUSES, this is far beyond the purview of any governmental agency.
C’mon.....even the Hitler Youth and the Soviet Young Pioneers and Komsomol didn’t go this far; I’d daresay they would’ve the notion laughable (and I can confirm they would’ve; my girlfriend WAS in the Soviet Young Pioneers, and she said, “Hey, they’d never go that far.”
YIKES....no more BBQ Ribs.
“Start growing a garden and homeschool your kids, TODAY.”
Here’s a better idea: These fascist pigs have names and live in your neighborhoods. Take over your local and county government, elect a constitutional sheriff and drive them out of your community. If you don’t know how, study the founding of America. Here’s some hints: committees of safety; broadsheets; liberty trees; tar and feathers.
Apply these remedies as necessary.
And yet, what is it we are told when we violate one of these? Ignorance of the law is no excuse.
Many of these laws make absolutely good sense. Lawmakers cleverly couch them under the names of victims. Here in NY, we have Leandra's Law - New York is one of 36 states in the nation with special child endangerment laws that impose tougher sanctions on individuals who place a child passenger at risk while driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. There are 'animal cruelty laws' named for the creatures who suffered abuse and/or death; there are child predatory laws named for victims. And the list goes on and on.
What will it take to wake up the American electorate? Rush Limbaugh today commented on how Obama and supporters are positioning Republicans as the party that will deny women of their birth control. He pointed out that these messages are directed toward the many Americans so caught up in the death of Whitney Houston, that they will receive this news without question.
We didn’t have school lunches in the 50’s. We walked home for lunch. Now and then we got a lunch packed, or for a very special treat, maybe once a month we were give 50 cents for a hamburger and a milk shake at the local ice cream shop. I lived about 8 blocks from school and had to cross a fairly main road with the safety patrol.
