Romney, Santorum to Skip March 1 Debate
National Journal ^ | 2/16/12 | Sarah B. Boxer

The front of the GOP pack will be absent at the March 1 debate in Atlanta sponsored by CNN and the Georgia Republican Party, CBS News/National Journal has learned. The Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum campaigns said they have decided to skip the debate, throwing into question whether it will happen as planned. "With eight other states voting on March 6, we will be campaigning in other parts of the country and unable to schedule the CNN Georgia debate," Romney spokeswoman Andrea Saul said. "We have participated in 20 debates, including eight from CNN." The 20 debates include one scheduled for Feb. 22 in Mesa, Ariz.

Wow..you’ve got it. Catching up on reading FR threads this morning...and the trail brought me here. Entirely plausible motive. I wish I had better ears on the ground here in Pa.
Sneaky rotten stinking aroma is wafting from the west.

Stinks to the high heavens. Not going to go down without a fight.

Ok, forget the 3/1 debate..how about a televised forum of Newt and a panel of supporters..fleshing out ideas/solutions. The Texas Tea Party event with Newt and Herman Cain was widely watched, perhaps this is the way to go. This time, invite Perry, Cain and yes, Palin. Is that possible?

You obviously do not know the guy at all. Perhaps you need to find out more. Like his stance on illegal immigration, cap & trade, socialized medicine, all of which he is for. If he is hardline conservative than so is Obama.

You fixed nothing.

You’re either totally ignorant or a liar. Newt is NOT for any of those things. I suggest you go to Newt.org and read his campaign platform.

A few of the votes, like the one you mention ARE understandable. And there are a couple others that I can go along with that may mean, as I’ve mentioned elsewhere, that I am not a 100% rock ribbed conservative. I can even understand (with some misgivings) his position on Spectre (basically he was asked to be a team player, as I understand it.)

My problem is that we have plenty of Santorum supporters on here who seem to have unlimited time to blast Newt, but little to none to explain in detail where Santorum stands with regard to his record on a great many issues. Newt, on the other hand, is a policy wonk who loves to disseminate his ideas publicly, and has for a long time. So I find that particularly on economic issues, I have a much better idea of where Newt is at (or has been), warts and all.

I suggest you research what he has said in the past.

Environment

Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich defended his stance on immigration during a town hall in Naples, Florida on Friday. "I am not for amnesty for anyone. I am not for a path to citizenship for anybody who got here illegally," he said, according to The Hill. "But I am for a path to legality for those people whose ties run so deeply in America that it would truly be a tragedy to try and rip their family apart." The former House speaker broke with the rest of the GOP field on the issue of immigration during a debate last week, calling for a more "humane" immigration policy that allows undocumented immigrants to remain in the United States. "I do not believe that the people of the United States are going to take people who have been here a quarter century, who have children and grandchildren, who are members of the community, who may have done something 25 years ago, separate them from their families, and expel them," Gingrich said during the debate, broadcast on CNN Nov. 22.

So what is the statue of limitations as far as he is concerned about someone who broke the law? Is it any fairer to let someone stay who did it 25 years ago, as opposed to someone who did it 3 years ago? Will he want a national dialog to determine that?

Socialized medicine

You can choose to hide you head in the sand, like so many other americans, but Newt is no friend to Americans. Granted, he is way better than Obama and I would vote for him like I did for McCain. But he is not the conservative you think he is.

P.S. If you can not hold a conversation without using liberal tactics of name calling and insinuation, then don't talk to me.

It doesn’t matter what he is asked about NOW. That won’t be the issue when facing Obama but it will be something NEW something he has had no chance to address.

Don’t you know how these clowns operate. For a conservative it is ALWAYS “gotcha”.

Santorum will field any of their attacks with minimal damage.
