I came across this story earlier, but I’m not sure how much of this one should believe.

“$6 trillion would be a perfect amount to engineer a collapse”

BINGO!!!!

Its a race. Does the Euro implode before the dollar? the dollar certainly will if the French and Germans decide a little payback is in order for what we did to them in Iraq!!!

I remember being amused at the nerve of this counterfeiter, but $6T? The guy must be a socialist Obama-lover to aim that big.

And there's big frauds and petty frauds. Rossi leans more to the one than the other and so far he hasn't collected money from the consumers.

Apparently it takes an awful lot of fake money to buy plutonium from Nigeria. One scammer buying from another - the plutonium, I’m sure, would have been fake also.

Getting an image of our currency being printed for some reason :^)

Interesting link in your post #20. The World War I vintage crate the bonds were found in is curious to say the least. One doesn’t exactly make something like that on a color copier. There is more to this story than we are led to believe.

These bonds could be the real deal, and the money WE are currently using is fake.

Being paper, they are both fake.

Korea has been printing 100's maybe better ones than we have, how would you know? Any currency is only worth something while the people believe it is. Maybe we should remember the Isle of Yap, they had really strange money, but it was difficult to counterfeit.

This could well be how the FED is holding up the Euro and the markets. It is obvious that they have some sort of backdoor method of doing it.

Don’t worry though. This will all be swept under the carpet just like the last time. This story will just go away.

In fact...6 trillion in replacement bonds are probably already on the way.

There you go trying to short the bozo by six Zeros.

1,000,000 = Million

1,000,000,000,000 = Trillion.

This sounds like the identical story from a few years ago only the amount is more.

Rossi’s fraud may not be quite at this scale, but it’s still fraud.

He’s not “demonstrating a process with which I disagree”—he’s claiming to do something that’s physically impossible. No amount of wishful thinking can bypass the laws of physics. (Or, as my son says, “Gravity. It’s not just a good idea. It’s the law!”) And Rossi is trying to get people to “invest” in his fraud. Just because he hasn’t been arrested yet on this one doesn’t mean he won’t be. It is also possible that one of his “investors” will take matters into their own hands. I dunno how this will pan out, but I’m paying attention.

Gravity is one of four fundamental forces. Then there's the Strong Nuclear Force, the Weak Nuclear Force, and the Electromagnetic Force. The latter two work together frequently so they are sometimes referred to as the Electroweak Force.

There are all sorts of manifestations of these forces, some with high temperatures, some with low temperatures, and some with in between temperatures.

When you say something is "impossible" you really do have to say WHY.

The reason cold fusion (or if you want, call it “LENR”) is impossible has been explained many times.

Shoving two particles of the same polarity together to form an atom of a different identity—e.g. shoving nickel and hydrogen together to form copper—takes a LOT of energy.

Mathematically, the process is impossible. But math is sometimes imprecise.

When the particles are far apart, it is easy to push them together. But it becomes logarithmically more difficult the closer they get, until the energy required asymptotically approaches infinity. That energy barrier is what people refer to as the Coulomb force. In reality, at very high temperature (like that found inside a star), it is possible to overcome the Coulomb barrier on very small atoms—like a hydrogen and a helium, which have +1 and +2 charges, respectively—because the high temperature represents a huge amount of energy. But, as I saw two physicists describe it in a blog, there isn’t enough energy in the universe to overcome the Coulomb barrier of a nickel nucleus (charge of +28).

And that is why Rossi’s claims are not believable.

Did I say that was going on? Try this one. You have an atom of hydrogen ~ actually, it’s in a molecule of hydrogen. You slip another proton in there to get deuterium. What you have to do is overcome the Coulomb Barrier ~ (SEE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coulomb_barrier ) which requires a great deal of energy BUT under certain conditions quantum tunneling is available (SEE http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gamow_window ) There are a variety of descriptions of what seem to be other techniques which amount to the same tunneling trick.

BTW, overcoming the coulomb barrier in an atom of nickel, or anything else, is a trivial problem for a neutron star or a black hole to deal with.

So who were these physicists?

I notice that the Wiki entry you linked on Gamow says that an expert’s attention is needed on that subject. (In other words, there are questions about that article.)

From what I remember when taking pchem, quantum tunneling is a random event and not very likely to occur. It also describes the movement of a particle through a physical barrier, not through a charge barrier.

Not even a neutron star or black hole would have the energy to overcome the Coulomb barrier of a large nucleus like Nickel, according to the physics blog. I don’t happen to know the blog off-hand; it was something that JohnnyB linked a while back. The large atoms are not made through fusion; they are made through another process that also happens inside stars, which involves shoving neutrons into the nucleus. Since neutrons have no charge, there is no Coulomb barrier to overcome. Since shoving neutrons into a nucleus is very likely to make unstable isotopes, those isotopes undergo various forms of radioactive decay, which ends up producing all of the elements that we know (with exception of the extremely unstable radioactive elements which have only been made in labs). That non-fusion process I just described does NOT describe what Rossi claims to be doing in his “eCat”. He is claiming to have achieved cold fusion... sure, he calls it “LENR”, but it’s cold fusion.

BTW, when you slip another proton into a hydrogen nucleus, you get helium, not deuterium. The nucleus of a hydrogen atom is a single proton. The nucleus of a deuterium atom is a proton and a neutron. Tritium consists of a proton and two neutrons. The identity of a chemical element is determined by the number of protons in the nucleus, and the isotope is determined by the number of neutrons.

Are there any other basic chemistry questions you would like answered?
