Double Standard in Teacher Sex Crimes

HOUSTON - A fired Spring Branch ISD teacher accused of having sex with a student is out of jail but must wear an ankle monitoring bracelet.

The judge also ordered Kathryn Camille Murray, 28, to stay away from the alleged victim.

According to court documents, a faculty member told administrators at Memorial Middle School that Murray was having an inappropriate relationship with a 15-year-old male student.

If at 15 she had molested me I would have considered it fulfilling my wildest fantasy.

I have also taught 8th grade girls (14 yo). I can say they are a different breed than the girls I was in the 8th grade with. Probably half of them are sexually active and all of them know the effect they have on men. A large percentage of them were so well developed that with fake ID no one would doubt they were 18. I don't condone teachers that succumb but in many cases the girl is the aggressor. It's still statutory rape no matter how hot she is or how much she wants it.

Given that, why? Who is being protected from what? The only theory you can fall back on is that it protects the father of the girl, as his property, and even then you'd have to hold every 14-year-old boy she opens her legs for to the same criminal penalty. (8th grade is about 13 to 14 years old)

If she (a 14-year-old) can legally "consent" to a 14-year-old boy, then you really don't have a capacity argument to make, do you? The best girls are still available to every 14-year-old precocious predator. The "good" boys still get leftovers and sloppy seconds. The argument could be made that if adult women were available to those dilinquents, it might protect some of their innocent classmates.

My teachers never came on to me either,which was fortunate for me because all of them were men.

Predators are and always have been the exception and the boogey man of people's imaginations. Stricter laws have only reduced a small percentage somewhat further. Most cases are and always have been initiated sexually by the younger or less powerful person as a route to favors, money and other benefits. Needless to say these are only reported by third parties or if the transaction (I use that word rather than "relationship") goes sour.

Our criminal justice system has much more important things to worry about, but indicting banksters and politicians is a whole lot more difficult.

No, they just can find themselves in their 20's suddenly being hit with a lawsuit for 18 years of back child support.

We don’t have a “double standard” on this site, at least.

If it’s a male adult - GUILTY, regardless. If it’s a female adult, then guilty of it’s a female student. If it’s a male student, then a guilty/non-guilty judgment is made, based on the ‘quality’ of the teacher. While it is true that there is some subjectivity in our work, there certainly is no double standard.

Agree, from the picture it certainly looks like she’s being railroaded by an overly aggressive prosecutor.

You would not be correct about boys doing well with sexual involvement with adults. Most people don’t think it is alright for adults to hit on boys for sex (homo or hetero).

The teacher had problems controling her sexual compulsions; she was not sacrificing her life for a relationship with a kid. It is rare that the pervert wants a love relationship with the child; they want sex with the child. They have the advantage of being an authority figure and being much more cagey than the target. Being dominant all adds to their thrill.
