Gingrich: Limbaugh right to apologize for remarks (AP headline)
KGW - Portland ^ | March 4, 2012 | AP

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich says Rush Limbaugh was wrong to call a college student a "slut" and "prostitute" in the debate over contraception coverage, and was right to apologize for the comments.

Gingrich tells CNN's "State of the Union" that he's glad the conservative commentator issued the apology on Saturday and that it's time to move beyond the controversy.

Gingrich says it's "silly" to suggest that Limbaugh speaks for the GOP. Gingrich contends the media are "trying desperately to protect" President Barack Obama.

Which is interesting, because he was not running for anything at the time.

And wow, what an original idea. Do you have any more “breaking news” for us? You know, like maybe the last time RS WAS running for something he was bragging about minimum wage hikes and record spending on Head Start and voting down Right to Work?

don’t have the complete transcripts, but that’s not the point. The soundbyte about “right to apologize”

First, C. Edmund, I don't have the transcript, so I don't know if that is a direct quote or how it was said.

Second, RUSH apologized. Did you want Newt to say, "Gosh, hey my man Rush, don't apologize?" Is that it???

You are so all over the map, it's hard to know where you stand, day to day.

I think it’s 99.6 - or 98.6 - either way - he could have simply posed the question of “what we call someone who gets paid for sex” and maybe not explicitly answered that question himself.

Nice picture of Newt.

Since you want to play that way, maybe you would like to explain why Santorum, along with Trent Lott torpedoed Bill Clinton impeachment.

http://patriothq.com/2012/02/18/how-rick-santorum-torpedoed-clintons-impeachment

Before you call me a liar there are many more articles on this subject if you care to look them up. If Santorum is of such outstanding character, why did he botch the Rapists impeachment?

Windblown Newtie once again sticking his finger in the wind and finding out what gets him the most votes.

Newt attacked Obama.

You're full of hot air.

Newt understands that this will affect the GOP. He knows we must get past this FAST, and Rush’s apology will help to do this. An endorsement of Rush apologizing is quite a bit different than Santorum saying he was absurd. Can people not just look at a bigger picture here?

Unfortunately, no, because many here are basically the same kind of people that populate the DU; the only difference is which labels provoke them to knee-jerk, thoughtless responses and reification of their prejudice. Though the packaging is different, their operating systems and processor speeds are all about the same.

If Rush set the stage for all conservatives to get the record straight, how is it that virtually no one is speaking about the real issue... this skank’s obvious attempt to forward the skid mark's unconstitutional edict that the Catholic Church pay for her contraceptives has been twisted and perverted into this idiotic “Republicans want to end women's right to contraceptives”? The Demonrats and their MSM propagandists have, once again, achieved a trifecta-— they have successfully diverted attention away from the real issue of religious liberty, while at the same time making their sworn enemies look bad and covering for the skid mark's incompetence, ignorance, and wanton destruction of the country.

Yeah, Newt should have stayed out of it or made it a free political speech issue—now he has thrown Rush under the bus and there are a LOT of Dittoheads in Super Tuesday states.

Bad move Newt.

Actually the responses to the question tells more about the candidates then you care to admit.

Rick Santorum: Absurd

Newt Gingrich: Wrong, and then followed it up with: “The Republican Party has four people running for president, none of whom is Rush Limbaugh,” Gingrich said. “One of them will end up as the nominee, and that person will be the Republican spokesman. I don’t think any of them were involved in this controversy at all.”

Newt then went on to attack the media on their obvious bias.

I think the different answers show a lot about the character of the individual. You can take just the one word each used to describe the statements by Rush (Absurd vs Wrong) and go from there.

I am not all over the map at all, not on ideas and philosophy. Now, if that makes me all over the map about other people - who may be all over the map, so be it.

I have a different view than most Freepers I suppose. Supporting someone in my book INCLUDES SMACKING THEM DOWN WHEN THEY SCREW UP. That’s part of it. I will be no one’s sycophant. I refuse. I am a Duke fan so this morning I admit they were awful last night! That’s what a real supporter does IMO.

Yes, I realize that counters many prevailing winds here on FR. But you will never find my philosophy in one post at odds with my philosophy in another post.

Now, besides which, I answered your question in 2 other posts. I pointed out which quotes of Newts were brilliant and which ones he should have left unsaid. I think I was very clear and very specific and very correct on those points.

And I was totally consistent in those opinions with everything else I have ever said here on FR.

Um, we’re not consumed with Rush Limbaugh

Of course we are. There are at least thirty separate threads on Rush Limbaugh, his advertisers, his apology....and he's discussed on at least thirty more.

If this is truly the most important election of our lifetime, then we need to pull it together and fast.

We don't need to obsess over and debate repeatedly every shiny object the liberals throw into the room to distract from the real issues: obamacare, the economy and national defense.

Far as I’m concerned, Rush’s record is intact.
When a “student” is pressed financially cause her birth control needs are too costly, she’s a slut.
When our pres__ent consoles a slut, he’s a slut.
But we all knew that didn’t we?

Gingrich is a loose cannon.

Yep he is. And you need loose cannons to win wars. We are at war. We won't win it with Rickie Squirt gun or Mitt "ready, aim, AIM BUT NEVER ACTUALLY FIRE!" Romney.

We need someone who will fire and fire and fire. And yes, there will be collateral damage from time to time. Welcome to war. But with Newt, there will be many many many more direct hits on the target than with anyone else running. And even in this situation, he scored several direct hits.

Be careful with your cliches. They might come back to bite you.

I just think it’s pretty hypocritical of you to stop by a thread that is obviously about Rush and then pretend you are our superior since you and only you realize that there are more important issues. Kind of makes me queasy.

And like I said, many of us can walk and chew gum at the same time. Did you get that analogy?

....and I’ll add this while I’m thinking about it. This is not actually about Rush, this is about capitulation to the liberal media and political correctness. This is actually a HUGE FRICKN issue and only happens to involve Rush in this particular instance.

But yes, caving to political correctness is one of the biggest issues we face today, now that you mention it.

.......how is it that virtually no one is speaking about the real issue... this skank’s obvious attempt to forward the skid mark's unconstitutional edict that the Catholic Church pay for her contraceptives has been twisted and perverted into this idiotic “Republicans want to end women's right to contraceptives”?....

Transcript of Feb 22, 2012 CNN Republican Debate in Arizona

The LIE:

....."ROMNEY: No, absolutely not. Of course not.

There was no requirement in Massachusetts for the Catholic Church to provide morning-after pills to rape victims. That was entirely voluntary on their report. There was no such requirement.

Likewise, in Massachusetts health care bill, there's a provision in Massachusetts general laws that says people don't have to have coverage for contraceptives or other type of medical devices which are contrary to their religious teachings. Churches also don't have to provide that to entities which are either the church themselves or entities they control. So we have provisions that make sure that something of that nature does not occur.

That's why when I worked closely with the leaders of the Catholic Church, I met with the cardinal a number of times, and with his emissaries. We talked about the issues we were concerned about.

We battled, for instance, to help the Catholic Church stay in the adoption business. The amazing thing was that while the Catholic Church was responsible for half the adoptions in my state -- half the adoptions -- they had to get out of that business because the legislature wouldn't support me and give them an exemption from having to place children in homes where there was a mom and a dad on a preferential basis.

Absolutely extraordinary. We have to have individuals that will stand up for religious conscience, and I did and I will again as president.".....

The FACTS:

"...GINGRICH: Well, the reports we got were quite clear that the public health department was prepared to give a waiver to Catholic hospitals about a morning-after abortion pill, and that the governor's office issued explicit instructions saying that they believed it wasn't possible under Massachusetts law to give them that waiver. Now, that was the newspaper reports that came out. That's something that both Senator Santorum and I have raised before. But I want to go a step further, because this makes a point that Ron Paul has been making for a generation and that people need to take very seriously.

When you have government as the central provider of services, you inevitably move towards tyranny, because the government has the power of force.

(APPLAUSE)

You inevitably -- and I think this is true whether it's Romneycare or Obamacare or any other government centralized system -- you inevitably move towards the coercion of the state and the state saying, "If you don't do what we, the politicians, have defined, you will be punished either financially or you will be punished in some other way like going to jail."

And that's why we are, I think, at an enormous crossroads in this country. And I think the fact is, for almost all of us who have been at this for any length of time, we're now looking at an abyss that forces you to change what you may once have thought -- and I suspect all four of us are much more worried today about the power of the state than we would have been -- with the possible exception of Congressman Paul -- than we would have been at any point in the last 25 years.".....

AND the TOP HEADLINE out of the Mesa Debate:

...."GINGRICH: But I just want to point out, you did not once in the 2008 campaign, not once did anybody in the elite media ask why Barack Obama voted in favor of legalizing infanticide. OK? So let's be clear here.

(APPLAUSE)

GINGRICH: If we're going to have a debate about who the extremist is on these issues, it is President Obama who, as a state senator, voted to protect doctors who killed babies who survived the abortion. It is not the Republicans."...
