Limbaugh Advertisers Flee Show Amid Storm
The New York Times ^ | 5 Mar 2012 | BRIAN STELTER

Emboldened by Rush Limbaugh’s public apology over the weekend to a law school student whom he had called a “slut” and a “prostitute,” critics of the radio talk show host are intensifying their online campaign against his advertisers. he apology, they said, was a signal that the campaign was working. On Sunday, a seventh company, ProFlowers, said that it was suspending all of its advertising on “The Rush Limbaugh Show” despite his apologetic statement a day earlier.

For now, the ad boycott is uncomfortable but not crippling for Mr. Limbaugh, who is estimated to make $50 million a year and whose program is a profit center for Premiere Radio Networks, the company that syndicates it. The program makes money both through ads and through fees paid by local radio stations, and while it often has sparked outrage during more than two decades on the air, efforts at ad boycotts in the past have had no measurable effect. Liberal groups and activists, however, hope that this time is different.

Mr. Limbaugh has been roundly criticized for talking at length about the sex life of Sandra Fluke, a Georgetown University law student who testified in support of the Obama administration’s requirement that health insurance plans cover contraceptives for women. For three straight days he lambasted her, before saying in a statement Saturday afternoon that he did not intend to attack her personally. “I chose the wrong words in my analogy of the situation,” he said.

By the time he apologized, online protesters had been organizing for days on social networking Web sites and liberal hubs like Daily Kos. They called on companies like ProFlowers to remove their ads from “The Rush Limbaugh Show” and appeared to be having some success, as companies like Sleep Train said they had suspended advertising.

The NYT, etal are loving this so Limbaugh didn’t screw up, he was dead on. Another example of the huge double standard that exists which Conservatives must deal with. Schultz and Maher call Conservative women c—— and sluts, and it’s okay. Limbaugh tells it like it is, and it’s not okay. There’s something wrong with this picture.

Knowing what I do about the hookup culture that has invaded our college campi, if Sandra Fluke has slept with less than a dozen men since enrolling at Georgetown, I’ll order an arrangement from ProFlowers.com and eat it.

I replied to receipts (for purchases) from Proplants, Proflowers and Sherriesberries, the following:

Re: your decision to enter politics regarding the Limbaugh advertising. You have surrendered to people who are not your customers. Now you are about to reap the rewards from those of us who are through with your affiliated companies. You will receive no more orders.

The occupy folks are out of work. They are unlikely to be customers anytime soon.

I wish Rush would consider his own media company, like Beck and Breitbart. As long as you’re an employee of somebody else they dictate what you can say. And that includes if you have to count on Clear Channel - or whoever - to exclusively distribute your product.

We need to start our own online petition like the leftards did...
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Good morning, MadelineZapeezda. Here is my email on Saturday to Mr. David Friend, CEO of Carbonite at David.Friend@Carbonite.com
((( OOPS,I just mistyped the company name as ** Cabron-ite ** . If Mr. Friend does not reverse his decision, he is indeed a ‘CABRON’ )))

Hello, Mr. Friend. I understand that your company, Carbonite, has decided to discontinue sponsorship
of the Rush Limbaugh program. I have been a listener of Rush Limbaugh since January 1991.

Your decision to drop this very widely heard program from your sponsorship is indeed unfortunate. Perhaps you
fail to see the big picture.

This reaction of yours did not come out of nowhere. In fact, it comes as part of the by Marxist/Leftist Long March
towards totalitarian dictatorship here is this country, a specific tactic of which is the set up of a story line that elicits
reaction and then take-down of the person who responds to it.

This controversy over Ms. Fluke was not a ‘fluke’. It was another trap designed masterfully by Marxist/Leftist planners
to further snuff out free exercise of religion. Mr. Limbaugh stood up for free exercise of religion by his correct description
of Ms. Fluke’s actions.

The Obama regime is one that seeks to shutdown anyone who is in disagreement. If you have not heard of Andrew
Brietbart, he was a conservative journalist, fiercely outspoken against the regime that currently ooccupies the White House.
He was about to present evidence that would reveal Mr. Obama’s true allegiance with Marxist/Leftist counter-revolutionary
goals and ideals.

Sadly, Mr. Breitbart was silenced on March 1, having suffered an untimely death.

“Untimely”?

Several hours later that same day, Rush Limbaugh received a suspicious package, prompting a bomb squad to investigate. It turned out
to be a seemingly harmless business proposition for Rush. But if you look closely, contained in that package was a
“an electronic plaque commemorating the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln by John Wilkes Booth “

Did you miss the word “assassination”. ?Sending a message to Rush the next day after Mr. Breitbart’s
sudden demise?

Think real hard, Mr. Friend. Your opportunity to choose between freedom or dictatorship may have just occurred, only
you do not realize it yet. And you did not choose wisely, having succumbed to immense pressure whipped up
behind the scenes by the Marxist/Leftist minions.

What is your company, but a repository for personal data for millions of citizens, a portion who are patriotic Americans who
despise that America is being dismantled step by step by Mr. Obama and his sorry band of fellow travelers.

Perhaps you company will one day be seized by Mr. Obama for the purpose of searching your entire customer base’s
data that you are storing, in order to find anyone who speaks ill of the Marxist/Leftist, then prosecute them.

Is this what you want, Mr. Friend?

I strongly urge you, in the name of the Liberty, to reconsider your decision to part ways with one of the few voices
for freedom.

Sincerely and most respecfully,
xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx in Whittier, CA

I agree. Rush screwed up. Facts are facts, and Fluke did not discuss her personal sex life at all. I wouldn't be surprised to find out she's a lesbian who doesn't even need or use birth control. Rush, unfortunately, made this about Fluke and not the much larger issue of government mandated wealth redistribution (forcing people to pay for other people's contraceptives) and religious freedom. On the other hand, Rush did apologize. An honorable person accepts an honest apology, but the left has a different agenda. They are very, very adept at using these sort of events for political advantage. It matters not that the outrage is entirely artificial. This is politics, and they are nasty, evil people who will use any means whatsoever to win.

Use your head here a moment. Who were the FIRST advertisers to announce they'd drop Rush? THEY were the mattress marketing firms.

So, ask yourself, how is it mattress peddlers were so much more sensitive than Pro Flowers, or Carbonite? What is it about that industry that heightens their sensitivity?

They are called BED BUGS.

People who sell mattresses fear them more than hotels do, and all it took were a handful of anonymous phone calls from Leftwingtards threatening to turn bed bugs loose in their warehouses to adjust their minds into an anti-Rush attitude.

Not that I'd recommend reversing the tables and reminding the mattress guys that bed bugs can be on a two-way street once you lie down with the Leftwingtards, but there you have it.

I suspect they've used this technique to secure funds from these people in the past.

St. Patricks, Easter and Mother's Day are right around the corner. Who is ProFlowers' big competitor?

They could buy some ads cheap, and Rush ought to sell some ads quick to competitors of his "censors"--heck, give 'em away!!

I'm afraid, folks, a direct boycott won't work. It just generally does not. The only hope is to make his advertisors feel the pain of seeing their ads go for cut rates to their competitors.

Rush is his own media company. Clear Channel and Premier are partners, not employees.

CALL CARBONITE AND ASK

Why are you still sponsoring the Ed Shultz radio show after he also called a woman a slut and apologized? Why the double standard?

Actually no, the larger issue is about free speech and political correctness taking over our conversation AND the issue of gangster government having crony ties to all of these private companies.

MUCH MUCH MUCH larger issue, and with due respect, you came down on the wrong side of the really big issues.

I’m betting you don’t listen much, and maybe never been accused of being too UNSERIOUS either. But those are just guesses.

Oh baloney. Rush didn’t say anything nearly as bad as what many liberal talkers and “comedians” say all the time. Maher calls Palin a what? And all I hear from the left is...crickets. Limbaugh calls a round heeled educated floozie a “slut” and all you know what breaks loose. I guess the truth is now considered “hate speech” and worthy of pulling advertising.

Only by apologizing. Do you really think loosing these sponsors will hurt him? He's got potential advertisers on a waiting list for years. Personally I'm glad carbonite is gone. I'm sick and tired of Rush doing all those live broadcast ads fro them nad that isentity theft company anyway.

Fluke said "some women" ~ and that means several things. For one it means "I'm going to tell you a whopper" and "not me, but them, some of them anyway".

It's a standard Leftwingtard ploy. You probably heard it first in the Anita Hill hearings. She said "some women" numerous times ~ to the point where it was annoying.

Since then all these ol'gals have come forth with the "some women" ploy. At the same time we have information on Fluke herself about how she picked Georgetown Law because, ta da, they didn't offer BC in their student health insurance package. That is, she went there to create a conflict. Apparently it wasn't all that successful, but she tried.

Remember, Fluke has a public life with a reputation as a schemer, screamer and feminist firebrand. That means "some women" necessarily includes her.
