Rick Santorum's campaign is calling on conservatives to pressure Newt Gingrich to abandon his bid for the White House, a senior adviser told reporters tonight.
Senior campaign strategist John Brabender said the key for the campaign going forward will be creating an opportunity to challenge Mitt Romney one-on-one, though Brabender maintained the Santorum campaign would not directly call on Gingrich to drop out of the race.
"We're never going to call on anybody to get out, but what we are calling is on Tea Party supporters and conservatives is to rally behind the only candidate that has demonstrated over and over again that he's the one who can compete against Mitt Romney," Brabender said.
"The real key right now is, can we get an opportunity to get a one-on-one shot with Mitt Romney," he said.

Umm Newt won more delegates tonight. So much for Rick’s “big” wins.
Theres a BIG difference between a simple endorsement and the LilRicky Mitt endorsement equivalent of a political "Lewinsky".
I was applauding throughout, and Romney has NO chance of getting the nomination. This is between Newt and ‘lil Ricky. I hope the adult wins.
I know it and you know it.
They play good cop bad cop...
He’s won two states. Do the math. Or do you prefer Slick Willard ?
Don’t forget your guy is a mitt man and a liar. Rick will sell out his voters on a dime.
He’s nothing more than a lying lawyer.
Oh boy! It’s REALLY gonna be a bad morning for santorum this morning. I really do wish this wouldn’t have happened this way, but santorum brought this on himself. What’s worse is he will NOT blame himself because nothing is ever his fault. HE will blame Gingrich...except Gingrich wasn’t there.
“Move over, Saint Christopher. Allow the devil to ride.” That is what santorum did when he joined in bloody Thursday against Gingrich. Karma is a beach.
How sad that you’re a sack of fresh puke, n00b sanitarium sockpuppet.
It looks like someone broke Ricks nose over the years.
I wonder why?
eF the Saint one. I never thought I’d say this but Mittie would be better.
If Newt Gingrich is a liability to Rick Santorum, then my response is, "Thank God!"
I don't understand why Santorum is still in this. He must realize the damage he is doing by maintaining this farcical campaign.
Now, I don't really mean that, but it makes about as much sense as his backers calling for Newt Gingrich to drop out. As far as I am concerned Newt is the only one of the three who would stand a chance against Obama in the fall.
Santorum? Give me a break. He's be eaten by Obama like an hors d'ourve: one bite.
>> Hes nothing more than a lying lawyer
Not even THAT good — and “lying lawyer” is a terribly low bar to clear!
Screw that big government nannystate sweatervest full of the same old crap.
I’m with Sarah....Oh boo-hoo Rick.
WOW!! I’m not surprised just that it’s being reported.

I think maybe the expanse of snot just caved in of its own weight. :-)

I bet the Santorum camp is calling for a coronation as the anti-Romney! But hell’s bell’s, Rickster is only 46 delegates up on Newt! And TEXAS wants to vote!
