Dershowitz to Newsmax: Obama Could Be ‘Chamberlain of 21st Century’

President Barack Obama is in danger of going down in history as “the Neville Chamberlain of the 21st century,” if he fails to stop Iran’s development of the nuclear bomb, Harvard law professor Alan Dershowitz tells Newsmax.TV.

“I know Obama, I like Obama, I voted for Obama,” Dershowitz said in the exclusive interview. “I hope he is not remembered in history as the Neville Chamberlain of the 21st century, the person who didn‘t see the greatest evil, didn’t recognize the greatest evil of the 20th century, as Chamberlain did not.”

Chamberlain was the British Prime minister who signed the 1938 Munich Agreement with Adolf Hitler, ceding part of Czechoslovakia to Germany and failing to see the threat the Nazis posed.

“Without a doubt,” the Middle East will be a factor in voters’ minds when they go to the polls in November, Dershowitz said.

And he named four swing states — Florida, Michigan, Ohio, and Pennsylvania — in which fears about Iran and the administration’s lukewarm support for Israel could be a critical issue.

“If Iran were to develop nuclear weapons prior to the election, that would be a disaster for Obama’s reelection prospects,” Dershowitz said...

But he added, “The true test of Obama’s support for Israel will come over Iran. Iran poses an existential threat, not only to Israel’s existence, but to America’s safety.”

Dershowitz also called for Obama to cut ties with the left-wing website, Media Matters for America, because of the stance of its senior foreign policy fellow, M.J. Rosenberg, on Israel...

I am blown away by Alans outspokenness on Obummer lately. I almost sense he is having a conversion to a more Conservative way of thinking. After seeing his Liberal exploits over the past decades, since Claus von Bulow, this is certainly a 180. Very interesting.

Dersh apparently still thinks Zer0 is misguided rather than malicious. Be interesting to see if his views continue to evolve.

Yesterday, William Kristol of the Weekly Standard appeared on Bill Bennett's radio program advocating, like Dershowitz, for a strike against Iran and soon. It was open to calls and a listener asked if Obama would not use the opportunity for an October surprise?

William Kristol replied that he did not care if Obama did so, because he would be doing the right thing. Whether striking Iran is the right thing or not, (I happen to think it is) let us be clear that the ground is being plowed right now by the neocons to advance such a strike, even at the cost of the election!

I have warned about Obama timing a strike to achieve an October surprise here:

Never mind the Ides of March, beware the Surprises of October

This is why I sometimes make the distinction between Liberals and Leftists. Leftists with no doubt are the enemies of Liberty. Liberals are often misinformed, simply ignorant, or complete jackasses, but not necessarily Leftists.

I don’t see how $7-10/gallon gasoline and a severe recession/depression would be a positive for Mr. Obama.

You should look into Dershowitz’s past. He would definitely fit into the radical side of things. I remember him pushing for “Animal Rights”. That is why this older, wiser Alan is a shock. I see parallels between his awakening to the anti Semitic nature of the Regime to those who woke up after 911 and moved Right in ideology. This may be the beginning of some sort of shift by Jews.

A lot of people shrugged off the election in NY 9 as an aberration. I think it was the first sign of how upset that community is at the Regimes treatment of Israel.

I have a feeling Dirtyshitz will still be punching the ballot for his Dear leader come November. He’s talking it up now because he wants to move Obama to do the right thing for Israel, (which is a good thing)but just remember, liberals are hypocrites and liars first and foremost.

Yeah, I’m familiar with Dershowitz’s past. Definitely a “wow” situation we have today.

I agree. The “awakening” is, in my opinion, a factor in the realignment we’re seeing here. Regrettably, it may be limited to addressing the threats made against survival of the Jews.

It really bugs me we don’t have at least half the Black and Jewish vote. But that’s a different issue for another thread...

So, Douchewitz has forgiven 0bama for helping to surround Israel with the Muslim Brotherhood & Al Qaeda? All he asks is that he just take care of the Iran problem?

Nice of the bigot to figure that out after the fact. He had every reason to know that before the little Hitler wannabe was elected given what he knew about Black nationalists of Chicago. Dersh is so hateful towards those “dangerous” Christians, he promoted a black Naziwannabe who is well established with Muslims.

Too late now, Dersh. You screwed the pooch and led a whole bunch of people to go over the cliff with you. Git dem Christians yapping about Jesus and the constitution, Dersh. You sure showed us who is the boss. Dersh, like all liberals, is suicidally insane.

Of course much depends on the timing of the strike but I am betting that Obama is calculating a rally – round-the-flag effect which has occurred with out exception every time the Commander-In-Chief engages in military action. That support will certainly fade as it did for example for George W. Bush in Iraq as things go poorly over time.

But a strike by Obama six weeks or four weeks before the election could have a devastating effect on Republicans' chances.

You ask how would Obama be benefited by $7-$10 a gallon gasoline? Because the memory of $6 a gallon gasoline would be swept away. Because Iran would be the villain and all would be blamed, not on Obama, but on the Ayatollah.

Any severe recession/depression which ensues as a result of skyhigh petroleum costs would not be incurred until after the election.

Incidentally, my complaint about Dershowitz and William Kristol is that they are shaping the debate so that we are utterly vulnerable to such an October Surprise. They will not tolerate any objections raised now to a potential strike because they count the elimination of a bomb in Iran as more important than winning the election. That is certainly true of Dershowitz. Therefore, they see any warnings about an October surprise as being harmful to their ultimate cause of getting a strike against Iran.

They seek to shut down the debate. They will give Obama the running room on this at the cost of the election so long as they get their strike.

Considered from a purely political point of view, our best outcome would be a successful strike by Israel so that Obama gets no credit.

Speaking of Israel, it shouldn’t surprise anyone that Obama is now best-buds with Bibi.

He is misguided, liberals don’t have any idea that there are people out there trying to kill them. They actually believe that apologizing, and helping people that can help themselves but don’t is going to lead to a utopia. It’s disgusting.
