Jonah Goldberg: Sid Blumenthal Is A ‘Malevolent, Lugubrious Political Mercenary’ 'More appropriately placed as an advisor to a Medici prince in the 14th century.' Fox News’s Jonah Goldberg had strong words about Hillary Clinton’s “old friend” Sidney Blumenthal on Tuesday, calling him a “malevolent, lugubrious political mercenary who would be more appropriately placed as an adviser to a Medici prince in the 14th century” than as a political consultant today. Blumenthal became the subject of controversy when a New York Times report discovered that he sent then-Secretary of State Clinton “unreliable” memos on the Libyan civil war. The memos were...

A new sport has arisen within the fighting universe in Poland: Team Fighting Championship (TFC). If you’ve ever imagined what a professional looking, all out fight between two rival gangs would look like in an arena, this is it. Two teams of five fighters are let loose in the ring, accompanied by five referees, where they punch, kick, and knee the living hell out of each other until just one team is left standing. The only major rules are that “forbid blows to the Adam’s apple, groin kicks, biting and spitting,” but there are no rules that prohibit the four...

I recently witnessed a horrible, violent assault. For over two minutes a man beat the hell out of a woman. Finally, after the woman sustained serious injuries, someone put a stop to it. What makes it worse was that the man was not only not arrested, he announced he has every intention of doing it again. This man is free to assault again, because this man is Fallon Fox. Fallon Fox is a transgendered professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter. Last week, it took Fox, who was born a man yet now lives as a woman, about two minutes to...

A trustee of the Met since 1999, the editor of Vogue, artistic director of Condé Nast, and inspiration for The Devil Wears Prada has over the years raised some $125 million for the museum. Anthony Ruiz's crooked face brought forth a smile and some timely advice from Vladimir Putin. A judo black belt who penned a book and starred in a DVD touting the grappling art, Putin is said to be especially enamored with combat sports because of what they reveal about people. In recent years, Putin famously sat ringside in Moscow and Saint Petersburg paying respects to ethnic Russian heavyweight icon Fedor Emelianenko. Neither of those bouts, however, provided the former KGB officer a chance to see the mettle of a man.

If you plan to mount a dummy on TV, it’s wise to not bring yourself down to the level of the dummy. But a wrestler did exactly that when he tried to defend Trayvon Martin by demonstrating a MMA (mixed martial arts) mount on HLN After Dark. On July 10, HLN After Dark Host Vinnie Politan invited a black guest named David Otunga, a WWE Smackdown wrestler, to discuss the George Zimmerman trial. Otunga made a fool out of himself trying to disprove Zimmerman’s claim that he shot 17-year-old Martin out of self-defense. Politan told viewers that he and Otunga...

In still one more of her prosecution-friendly rulings in the second degree murder trial Florida v. The ruling followed a lengthy, televised presentation by phone expert Richard Connor Tuesday night on the contents of Martin’s phone. Although the jury was not present, the media were and have no excuse for not reporting what Connor revealed. As the texts made clear, the Martin family attorneys knew what they were doing when they moved...

I like to bet on sports. Having a stake in the game, even if it's just five bucks, makes it more exciting. I also like playing poker. "Unacceptable!" say politicians in much of America. "Gambling sometimes leads to 'addiction,' destitute families!" Well, it can. So politicians ban it. It's why we no longer see a poker game in the back of bars. Half the states even ban poker between friends -- though they rarely enforce that. After banning things, politicians' second favorite activity is granting special privileges to a few people who do those same things -- so big casinos...

I normally wouldn’t devote an entire post to mixed martial arts, especially when there are such vital issues to discuss-including the Obama administration’s continued war against the State of Arizona. The sport doesn’t particularly appeal to me as a spectator, and I’m of the opinion that if I wanted to see men who didn’t know how to throw a punch properly, I’d watch boxing. Officials said they expect an autopsy will confirm preliminary findings that a Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter who made his professional debut at the "Confrontation at the Convocation" Saturday at the USC Aiken Convocation Center was pronounced dead Monday from blows he received during the weekend bout. Thirty-year-old Michael Kirkham of Gaffney was struck five or six times during the first round. The father of five children received several blows to the head, which caused the referee to stop the bout, said Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton.

This time, Mauricio “Shogun” Rua made sure the judges were not involved. Rua knocked out the previously unbeaten Lyoto Machida 3:35 into the first round to capture the light heavyweight championship at UFC 113 “Machida vs. Shogun 2” on Saturday at the Bell Centre in Montreal. At 28, Rua again sits atop the 205-pound heap. For many, it will be remembered as a night when justice was served. Machida took a controversial unanimous decision from Rua at UFC 104 in October.
