Any kitty trainers??? I got new kitten — 5 wks old.
Can’t get her to use the litter box or go outside. I have had cats before but never had this problem.
I have tried putting her in a confined space (bathroom), and putting the litter box in her favorite “accident” spots.
Have had to give her meds with eye dropper so she now hates me and runs when I try to pick her up
Before the meds, she was a little lover. (mother was friend’s barn cat, so she is letting her wild side show)
Kitty help needed on post 149.
correction — kitten is 5 months old
Put the cat in a crate and put a container of sand in the corner. Takes 2-4 weeks for the cat to figure it out before you can safely return it to tgevast wilderness of your home. additionally, once kitty seems trained leave it in a larger room with dors always closed. again another month.
Change the litter in both instances 4+ times a day to keep it fresh

The only thing I would add is that different cats will have different preferences for the litter type. Try them all. And, you can add shredded newspaper to the list. We've had good success with newspaper with all our foster litters.
Try a little vinegar in the box. Otherwise, find someone with a kitty and “borrow” some poop to prime the box.
Keep her in a seperate space the time being. :)=^..^=
Bless it's heart, that really is strange. Ok, do a Google search for "Attract Cat" cat litter. It's a bit expensive, but I had great success with it when I was training my cat to use a new litter box.
Oh, and if someone hasn't already suggested this, take him to the vet and just check to make sure he's ok physically. Sounds more like a psychological problem, but you never know. Please keep us posted.
If kitten is going in one spot, ban her from that spot and scrub it with bleach for a few months. Keep the door shut. If its in many spots, she could have a slight urinary infection. Cats associate the litter box with the pain of peeing...so she wont’ use it to pee. She will get over hating you once the meds are done....
I never had one that would refuse the litterbox altogether; however, the current cat does not like the “crystal” type litter with uneven edges. She would still pee there but poop in the tub! (As alternatives go, she was merciful.) Once I changed to scoopable sandy litter, she used the box as she should. Texture does matter to some.
Good luck with your new kitty - I hope you’re able to salvage your relationship!
