That’s good to hear, thank you.

If that’s your take on it, that’s fine. It does methodically address the issues you raised.

If the method is to be turgid, it succeeded.

The wording and thought progression is straight forward and crystal clear. If you wish to continue to act as if it isn’t, I don’t mind. You have a right to your opinion.

“The Marine Corps already has a kinder gentler side. Its called Toys for Tots.
My rail-thin Marine son damn near froze to death on a Toys for Tots mission. Try standing around and looking good outside a store in the wintertime in your dress blues while the wind whips all around. Marines have discipline.

I read things like this and think to myself that my children and grandchildren are going to be fighting a shooting war on our own soil.

This is what I was addressing: WASHINGTON (AP) -- The Marines are highlighting a kinder, gentler side in a new ad campaign.
Is this confusing to you?
To me this implied that our Marines needed to be more touchy-feely overseas. I'm wasn't buying it. I want our guys to use the best tactics that get the job done, and ensure them coming home.
You're not able to understand what I said up to this point? Was this anti-Marine?
My response was geared to address the issues that I want them coming home alive, enjoying their family, and vise versa.
You can't understand this? Really? That isn't an easy concept for you to grasp?
Since the topic was framed for how our Marines treated people, I made it clear who I am most concerned with them treating properly with no malicious intent whatsoever.
The meaning of this eludes you? It doesn't explain what my intent was, and that it wasn't intended to be a slam at all?
I obviously care that the Marines do in total, but my biggest care is how they treat their families when they come home alive. Outside of basic human rights, thats where my concerns end when theyre in the field of combat.
If there wasnt trouble they wouldnt be there. Stop causing trouble, and forget about them showing up. Forget about them doing something you dont like.
These two paragraphs are the content of the post you first objected to. You didn't recognize something you focused on to disagree with me?
I used italics and blue to highlight the portion you disagreed with most. You couldn't understand that either? The gray completes the post. You couldn't grasp that?
If you wish to read something negative into that, be my guest.
Is this too tough a concept for you to grasp? Seriously.
It wasn't what I intended, and even not worded as good as it could have been, you're trying way to hard to find disagreement where there is none.
You couldn't understand this either? I doesn't expres to you that you may have been trying to hard to find an insult where none was intended?
I have never taken a negative stand when it comes to our troops.
This was confusing to you?
Trying to lecture me on the media slant concerning our Marines is a waste of time.
What part of this was over your head?
If you can't grasp the meaning of my post, I think it says far more about you than it does me.

That sounds like a stupid way to deploy a troop, though. No coat, and as I would take it, no long johns.

No disrespect meant here, but I also read your original post and thought, HUH? Didn’t know what you meant at all. That said, the written word is not always the same as when spoken directly to someone. Just an observation, no malice meant here.

There is clearly some social-engineering mischief going on with the Marines (and other traditionally war-waging arms of the US military) and it looks like the Doughboy is saying that doesn’t matter as long as they do what... survive to get home to their families?
I’d rather think that Doughboy was being turgid and impenetrable than that he would not care about this mischief! It strikes at the heart of more than just the military.

Most generals and admirals are political animals who attained high rank through the “who you know and who you blow” approach. They would throw their own mother on the grenade to advance their career.
I can’t stand the idea of the Corps doing this crap; certainly not the Corps where I started my military career.

If you’ll read the thread, I tried to allow for differences of opinion, and provided a clarification post that made it quite clear what my original intent was.
It’s here: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/news/2856440/posts?page=37#37
It was the understanding that the first post could be misconstrued, that led me to do so. By this point, it should be crystal clear what my intentions were.
It should also be crystal clear that we all support the Marines, disagree with the ‘kinder/gentler’ goals, and don’t have any disagreements that would force a continuation of this discussion.
I appreciate hearing your take on the original post.
Take care.

It’s more than “kinder/gentler goals” Doughboy. It’s a whole thrust of social re-engineering. The armed forces represent part of American policy abroad (of course the “big stick” is not the whole policy, but that’s what diplomats are for). Asking the armed forces to wimp out is indirectly asking the entire American people to endorse wimping out. I beg to differ with that thrust, and at a very fundamental level, not just as another item on a list of nuisance issues.
