How much does the president have to do with the price of gasoline?
A lot, say American voters. According to oil experts and economists, not so much at least in the short term.
Todays oil prices are the product of years and decades of exploration, automobile design and ingrained consumer habits combined with political events in places such as Sudan and Libya, anxiety about possible conflict with Iran, and the energy aftershocks of last years earthquake in Japan.
This notion that a politician can wave a magic wand and impact the 90-million-barrel-a-day global oil market is preposterous, said Paul Bledsoe, strategic adviser to the Bipartisan Policy Center and a former Clinton administration official.
The price of gasoline is a hardy perennial in presidential campaigns. Jimmy Carter struggled with high gas prices, which had doubled since the Iranian revolution. And during the 2008 presidential race, Barack Obama said in a campaign speech that here in Ohio, youre paying nearly $3.70 a gallon for gas 21 / 2 times what it cost when President Bush took office.
On Monday, President Obama defended his energy policy in a flurry of interviews with swing-state TV stations while GOP hopefuls Newt Gingrich and Rick Santorum stumped at an energy summit in Biloxi, Miss. If we want to create lower prices for energy, we know how to do it now, Santorum said. White House spokesman Jay Carney fired back, blaming factors well beyond the control of any administration."

“Kneepad” journalism.
Gee not what they said about Bush keeping prices high for his oil interests.
Obviously Obama has the oil companies in his back pocket just like Bush and Cheney did. /sarc
ANWR would be producing oil today had Senator Obama and his cadres not opposed it seven years ago.
It’s very simple. If gas prices are high and the President is a Republican, it’s his fault. If gas prices are high and the President is a Democrat, it’s not his fault.
A smoking pile from Stevie Mufson. His “experts” are MORONS! If Barry the Kenyan Guy said tomorrow, start building the pipeline, the price of oil would drop like a rock.
BS. When you increase the money supply the way Obama has, you are responsible for the increase in commodity prices. These prices have nothing to do with supply and demand and everything to do with INFLATION.
Doesn’t matter what “former Clinton administration official” “experts” say, the present gets the credit and that’s the way it is.
“President Obama defended his energy policy in a flurry of interviews”
Sooo, what’s the problem???
You just need to come up with the cash to buy a Chevey Volt and then need to tell GM to Fu@k off on dual purpose fuels until libtards allow such.
Everyone knows that the jump in gas and food prices the last three years is Bush's fault.
Anyone with a lick of sense knows that the Obama administration is hostile to traditional energy, like coal, gas, and oil. They want to fix global warming by reducing demand for traditional energy and switching to (supposedly) environmentally safe energy like wind and solar. How does one reduce demand? Raise the price. How does one raise the price? Increase regulation and restrictions to suppress production. Like I wrote, anyone with a lick of sense can see how much President Obama adores green energy. This is about getting from here to there, his vision of a green energy future, and he’s willing to take us kicking and screaming into that future whether we want it or not. Why? It’s for the planet’s (and our) own good.
“then need to tell GM to Fu@k off on dual purpose fuels until libtards allow such.”
My ‘76 pick-up ran on both propane and gasoline. A simple electronic solenoid switched between the two.
RC one: “ These prices have nothing to do with supply and demand and everything to do with INFLATION.”
Inflation is certainly a part of it, but supply and demand is fundamental to the price of virtually everything. So we’re getting hit with a two-fer.
Nope, it’s completely due to speculating fat cats and welfare-for-the-rich given to all those ethanol criminals! Off with their heads! /s
(the /s was just in case someone who happens by is that effin’ dumb)

Bingo.
FFFUUUBBOOO!!!!
Suggestion: Congress should to rename the Arctic Wildlife Refuge something like: The Arctic Natural Resource Reserve.
Just having the name "wild life" in the title is enough to send liberal dweebs into a fit. "Oh no! They want to dump OIL on the poor polar bears and those cute penguins!"
It would sound better as a polling question: If it can be done safely, do you think we should drill for oil in the Arctic National Resource Reserve or would you rather not drill and choose higher gas prices instead?"
Notice the penguin (in the arctic).
