Did open voting which allows Democrats and Independents to vote in the GOP primary account for difference in Santorum's victory totals in MS and AL over the last polls which showed him in 3rd place? In other words, the MS and AL polls only polled likely GOP voters and the real voter population included Democrats and Independents. Also, did the Democrats sway the GOP primary results? Did Santorum robo call Democrats to vote for him?
Perhaps. There is the phenomenon of actual people voting in what was a tight race anyway, and there being no requirement that people conform to the behavior predicted by polls.
People often tell pollster one thing and then vote differently.
LATE DECIDERS went his way.
If you cannot read the exit polls, there is no way to explain it to you.
I think it was Romney dissing the AL forum. You could tell they felt insulted that he didn’t have the time for them. It wasn’t supposed to be televised without Romney but the people raised hell and c-span put it on. A lot of people saw Romney’s arrogance for the first time.
I think it is a combination of crossovers, and people not making their decision until the very last moment.
Maybe the great one said go vote.
Polls are not infallible. Reagan was down double digits to Carter a few days before the Election.
More likely the polls and even exit polls were simply incorrect and under representing Rick’s support. Santorum is made fun of in the media as a wacky, Catholic fundamentalist nut - some people may be responding to polls the way they think the caller wants rather than how they really intend to vote. And that can effect exit polls as well, just enough Santorum voters may have simply avoided the pollsters outside the polling places to skew the sample and yield distorted results. The difference between a win a loss in these states wasn’t that much and while polling is increasingly accurate, it is far from perfect. Look at the exit polling in 2004 as an example. Media thought Kerry was going to win all day because of the exit polls, and well, it didn’t quite work out that way.
Heh, I do that all the time. That's why Al Gore won in Florida, before the actual votes were counted and Gore lost.
It sounds, from his vanity post here, like Mitchell001 might be an upset Romney supporter.
I believe the smart folks in Alabama took it in and voted accordingly.
CNN said there was a lot of misbehaving by the dems voting for
Rick in these 2 open primaries. Again. This has to be discussed ( Changes made for these open primaries to be closed) and you see the GOP lets it go.
When in reality he is just another megalomaniac lawyer nut case, same as FLIP, another megalomaniac lawyer nut case.
Don't vote for lawyers.
I could be wrong, but I do believe I heard something about Santorum robo calling Democrats, that was just last week on the news.
Who did Newt win then? Santorum beat him among GOP and independents by pretty close to the final margin. I think the polls underpoll fly-over country, where Santorum’s strength was to be found.
When I voted yesterday, around 2:00, there were the same number of democrats voting as republicans. I saw the sign in lists, even steven.
I go with the crossover voters also. Dems would never cross over for Newt since he is known far and wide for eating them for breakfast. But, Santorum? Nada. Safe vote for dems. Just enough numbers to make the difference was all that would be needed in such a close race.
Hmmmm....maybe that’s a hint about November’s potential cross-overs.... Might out-number the dead voters....

Santorum connects well with the voters and he does it off the cuff.
BINGO!
They were “Reagan Democrats”! Sheeeeesh. Drop it already :)
Maybe the Sunday preachers put out a late call to vote Saintorum.
Oh, wait! Someone call the WAHHHmbulance...
Maybe the debate had something to do with it, the night before the election. The crowd was electrified, and Santorum did extremely well and got a huge response.
(I thought Gingrich was better, but he was more intellectual and not as God-centered.)
Who cares. Santorum beat everyone like a drum and is rolling on to the next states to keep slamming Milt.
Go Rick!
These open ones are made for stealing. I am so disgusted with the states that allow this, and the caucuses.
There is no way in hell that we get the Government we deserve.
I thought this is the kind of thing you would expect to see posted on the Daily Kos or a Ron Paul forum. Has FR fallen that far? Why don’t you just post some Diebold conspiracy while you are at it?
Yep, and Santorum called them out. Trust me, NEWT has a plan and I trust NEWT to know how to handle all this.
You should have heard comments made by Democrats that voted for Rick in Michigan. They were interviewed by local tv here after they had voted.
Catfish and cheesey grits, ya’ll.
A lot of people here were offended by this carpetbagger’s condescension.
Open primaries are not right,
Just curious. Do you believe in the rights of individual states/groups/etc to establish their own procedures or do you subscribe to some other type mandate. I also expect that other races were on both parties ballot for such things as Representatives, Senators and maybe some local offices.
I doubt we’ll ever have a perfect system . Cross over votes will help defeat Obama come Nov. JMO.
If you had half a brain you will remember Romney was predicted to win Mississippi.
Results are known to differ from the poling. They are not exacts, but they were close.
Don’t blame Newt’s losses on crossovers. He isn’t showing an ability to win anywhere.
24/7 excuses for Newt hotline. LOL
If Dems want to vote for the GOP this time, more power to them.
Reagan sure didn’t complain.
The exit polls shown on Drudge as late as 6PM,and the Monday poll cited on FR showing RS losing BOTH states by about 10% were PHONY, trying to bump up the numbers for one of the others. Milt, what do YOU know about this? Bob
Drudge called Ms. (AND Al. earlier) for Romney before the polls closed for the 3rd place finisher in both states.
To say we will need them in NOV., those that are voting now are not going to vote for ours in the general, they are only playing havoc in this election.
We have a difference of opinion I can see, but there is no way I get the government I deserve, maybe you do.
See that I am in your head...........
I kind of doubt many people that voted down there pay a lot of attention to Drudge before voting. People don’t here anymore.
In a way, Romney did win last night. Drudge may have been being a smartass. He does that at times.
You know, first the talk around here was that all the dem crossovers are going to vote for Mitt because he can’t win and they know it.
People need to make up their minds. I myself think any of them could beat that slimy slug in the WH if they run a good campaign.
LOL
damn, I hope you’re right...this country is at stake..
