Back when he agreed to advise the Obama administration on economics, General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt told friends that he thought it would be good for GE and good for the country. A life-long Republican, Immelt said he believed he could at the very least moderate the presidents distinctly anti-business instincts.
That was three years ago; these days Immelt is telling friends something quite different.
Sure, GE has managed to feast on federal subsidies, particularly the green-energy giveaways that are Obamanomics hallmark.
But Immelt doesnt think hes had anywhere near as much luck moderating the presidents fat-cat-bashing, left-leaning economic agenda of taxing businesses and entrepreneurs to pay for government bloat.
Friends describe Immelt as privately dismayed that, even after three years on the job, President Obama hasnt moved to the center, but instead further left. The GE CEO, Im told, is appalled by everything from the presidents class-warfare rhetoric to his continued belief that big government is the key to economic salvation.
Or, as one friend recently put it to me, Jeff thought he could make a difference, and now realizes he couldnt. Immelts conversion from public Obama supporter to a private detractor is important: It shows how even businessmen who feast off his subsidies worry about his overall economic agenda and its long-term impact on the economy.
Dont expect Immelt to say anything publicly about the downside of presidents economic agenda anytime soon: Hes still serving as what is considered the top outside economic adviser to the White House. (A GE spokesman insists that the reports Im sharing here about Immelts private criticism of Obama are ludicrous.)

Sounds as though Jeffy isn’t that bright... BHO is that most destructive type of individual - an arrogant ignoramous - too convinced of his own brilliance despite obvious and daily evidence to the contrary.
I could applaud Immelt’s intentions if it weren’t for the fact that he was at the trough like some kind of welfare queen on ‘roids.
Sell your sob stories somewhere else, Jeff, you’re part of the problem.
Living off the fumes of gossip! Ignore hearsay from anyone’s friends/lovers/maids...
But you ain’t upset enough to quit, are ya Jeffie?
The key point here is if you just paid attention to everything other than the MSM, you would have know Obama is a fraud. The lesson here is the MSM is a complete fraud also and only a fool would watch, read, or listen to it.
I used to love GE products and was proud of such an innovative and historic American company. Now, I avoid their products.
This is how they operate. Tear down icon after icon, institution after venerated institution, you tear down the society.
Don’t be fooled. This is a phony move from Immelt at the direction of Axelrod - to distance a key campaign liability from the President. GE and Immelt should be targets of ours, not allies.
Does anyone really believe that Obamaâs cadre of crony capitalists, like GE’s Jeffery Immelt, understand Obama for the Marxist he IS? No, because as long as Obama keeps feeding them off the taxpayer’s expense, these greedy swine will back him. For Immelt to say he’s had an epiphany about Barry and his ways is really a failed CYA. See ya, Jeff. Don’t let the door hit you in the butt as you leave.
Think of it as a shareholder for GE(I am not). He did a great job for them. The company made huge profits and paid NO taxes.
Guys like this knew that Obama was a scammer all along. They just learned how to benefit from it. Now that the bloom is off the rose they are trying to distance themselves and cozy up to the next winner so the get favors from them.
This guy is not a dummy. You do not get to run one of the largest corporations in the world if you are a stupid. This just shows that they think Obama is HISTORY. Therefore, they are looking to the future. It is good news.
AMEN!!
Agreed. He's figured out which way the wind is blowing and is positioning GE for the return of a "Republican" administration and Congress. With their government contracts and sugar daddy tax treatment GE cannot afford to be on the wrong side come next January.
I don’t buy it. Immelt is an opportunist. If he thought Obama was going to win re-election, he would be singing Bam’s praises right now. Instead he’s sucking up to Romney now.
I think a Forrest Gump-ism is in order here:
Stupid is as stupid does . . . .
Thank you Mr. Immelt for admitting you have been played as a stooge. Make that admisssion in front of a TV camera on Hannity and we will think about forgiving you and your company.
People who populate the ‘higher’ positions in corporate America are not normal. They don’t think. They live in an alternate false ‘reality’ made up of policies, goals and buzz words.
I don’t buy it for a second. GE has made a ton of money shilling for obama and they have given him cover in the business community.
You can’t sell your soul and then buy it back when the $$$ stops flowing your way.
Immelt was pushing the green agenda hard to bankrupt big oil. He is an environazi.
And he wants us to think he's pro-business? Right.
Arlen can still go piss up a rope!
