Hoodie' Wearing Gunmen Kill 1, Wound 5 In Bobby Rush's Ill. District

Former Black Panther Rep. Bobby Rush, D-Illinois, made quite a fuss when he donned a "hoodie" in the U.S. House until he was escorted out. At the time, former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, "applauded his courage" for doing so. Meanwhile, back home in Rush's district, two men wearing hooded sweatshirts, or "hoodies," were the shooters in an incident that left one dead and five injured.

A congressman was removed from the House floor Wednesday after giving a speech about Trayvon Martin while wearing a hoodie.

In fact, during a span of six-hours Thursday night, 13 people were shot, leaving two dead in Chicago. The two men in hooded sweatshirts were identified as the shooters in the single more significant incident. It would seem it takes more courage to simply walk down the street in Rush's district, than it does to wear a hooded sweatshirt in the House of Representatives by way of a stunt in a bizarre tribute to a young man shot and killed in Florida during a shooting incident still under investigation.

13 shot, 2 dead in Chicago in six hours Thursday night

The worst shooting occurred around 6 p.m. Thursday when two men in hooded sweatshirts opened fire inside a convenience store in the 1400 block of West 79th Street in the Gresham neighborhood, police said.

One man was killed and five others were wounded. The victims ranged in age from 16 to 24. The gunmen fled in an SUV and police continued searching for them this morning.

There's also another report on that particuar incident here.

Too bad the victim wasn’t Bobby Rush.

Yes, that is the real reason to wear a hoodie, however, there are others. They make great concealment from video cameras and witnesses when one is committing a crime.

Clothing can be a signal and it can be useful to criminals. A relative of mine managed a retail store, and she knew when someone entered the store all covered up with a large coat and wearing baggy pants (in the scorching heat of summer), that they were shoplifters.

As the old saying goes, “Clothes make the man.”

Don’t forget Zombieland Survival rule #1: CARDIO.

The wheezing freedom fighter who keels over whilst carrying the ammo from the F3Fitty to the firing line is a liability, not an asset.

I am young enough that I was hoodie-wearing age when they first started coming into style, so I know that almost every teenager and young adult wears hoodies. Hoodies are not exclusively worn by criminals and gangsters.

Linking hoodies to criminals makes about as much sense as linking jeans or shoes to criminals.

He was a nice looking kid. Note this was before he got suspended from school. Looks can be deceiving. I was a “nice looking kid” once.

I don't know who sponsored the sign, didn't have time to stop and look at that, but found it amusing that even the government, unknowingly, realizes that a hooded sweatshirt can be used to hide your face. Think of all the Robin Hood movies you've seen where Robin or one of his merry band disguises himself as a hooded monk.

You will not see a picture of a muslim woman with her head covered though. Muslim males can use the same disguise and no one will check them or complain about it.

In the Middle East they give you strange looks if you are in a public area with a backpack.

No, it seems low on the upper arm, low enough to be able to see even a hint of it despite the shirt sleeve. That tatoo continues beyond what is visible in the pic of it, yet I see none of it in the other pic supposedly taken 9 days before his death.

I’m not buying it.

That is why banks have a sign stating that you have to remove all hats, hoods and sunglasses before you enter, they don't care how cold it is outside.

Exactly! And the idea that one cannot judge based on appearance or dress is ludicrous. We all do that every day, and people send a message about themselves by their clothes, hair, etc. As I told my liberal (ex)daughter-in-law, the guy dressed up as a gangbanger may be a nice kid, but I wouldn’t bet my lunch money on it.

Some banks may have that sign but I’ve yet to take off my cap on command, nor will I ever, including in a court room ( a judge apologized for his request).
