I don't know what it means, but this strikes me as odd. From an interview with the parents of slain teenager Trayvon Martin by the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA):
Martin, Trayvons mother, Sybrina Fulton; Benjamin Crump, the family lawyer; Al Sharpton and former New York Gov. David Patterson participated in an exclusive 1-hour telephone conference call last Thursday with more than three dozen publishers from the National Newspaper Publishers Association (NNPA).
Martin told publishers how he learned that his son had been killed.
I had been out to dinner. When we got back between 10:15 and 10:45, he wasnt at home. The night before, he had been to the movies with my nephew, who had recently moved up to the Orlando area from Miami. Every time Trayvon would come up here, they would find something to do, usually they would go to dinner. My nephew is 20 years old, a very responsible young man. So there was not panic at that moment that he was not home. I made several attempts to call his cell phone and it was going straight to voicemail. I called my nephews cell phone and it was going straight to voicemail. So at that point, I figured they had been in the movies because they would always go to the movies.
Tracy Martin and his girlfriend went to bed. But the next morning, the day Martin and his son had planned to return to Miami, he learned that Trayvon still wasnt back in the house. Tracy called his nephew again, this time reaching him and learning that Trayvon wasnt with him.
Today, CNN published comments from a Martin family attorney that seems to conflict with the account proffered by Tracy Martin:
During the 10-day suspension, Tracy Martin took his son with him to Sanford, about four hours away from Miami, while he visited his fiancée because neither he nor Fulton wanted their son to stay in his hometown where he could enjoy his friends, said Horton, who has been in close contact with Martin's father.
"He wasn't just suspended from school and up at Sanford kicking it and having a good time," said Horton. Martin had only been to Sanford a handful of times.
His fateful walk to the convenience store for a bag of Skittles and an iced tea on the evening of February 26 happened only because the teenager pleaded to leave the apartment, said Horton.
"The only reason he got a chance to go to the store is because he begged his dad to go," he said. At the time, his father and his fiancée had gone out to dinner and to watch a basketball game, leaving Martin at the townhouse, according to Martin family spokesman Ryan Julison.
While walking to the store, Martin was on the phone with his girlfriend, whom he had been talking to for over 6½ hours throughout the day, the family's attorney said, citing phone records. The girl, who did not want to be identified, said she told Martin to run, but he refused, the family attorney said.
What strikes me is the father made no mention of his son begging him to be allowed to go to the store in his interview with the NPAA. That would be crushing to a parent, if true. They would be guilt-ridden, thinking if only they had said no, he wouldn't have been out.
Instead, Tracy Martin says he was not very concerned about the whereabouts of his son until the next morning.
It strikes me as odd.
Also, if Trayvon was more or less exiled to Sanford, so he couldnt have fun during his suspension, why would his father allow him to go to the movies with his 20 year old cousin the night before and assume he was at the movies again, on the night of the incident? Has being grounded or on punishment changed THAT much since I was a teenager?

I agree. My thinking is, if this kid was there for a week and a half, why did the dad have to go out with this girlfriend all night in the first place? He should have done some father-son bonding every day. He should have stayed home, ordered pizza, watched the game with his son, who needed direction and purpose in his life. The old man didn’t know where the kid was and that was apparently okay? He just assumes he knows, which was wrong. He didn’t say anything about the kid leaving a note? These people are on their cell phones 24/7 and he didn’t think it was odd the kid didn’t call him to let him know his whereabouts? And lastly, this guy is shacking up with his honey? This was just wrong on so many levels.
Just posted here, that his handle was from BOW (racist) crimer term. No wonder they called in the REVs.

You are trying really hard to villify the dead guy without any evidence. And, it is making you ugly.

You tell me. And then back up what you say with facts.
There are at this point two things we know for sure before the first eye-witness called 911 because of the fight....
1) Zimmerman followed Martin both in a vehicle and then on foot.
2) Martin took action to get away from him - he ran.
That is all we know.
If you have links to additional facts, not speculation because that door swings both ways, please provide them.
Racist Event Vultures?
Disappointed in you,
As a retired LEO you of all people should know that you follow the leads
Zimmerman states on the 911 call that the young person looked suspicious: “Up on something”
Listen to his call here
http://sanfordfl.gov/investigation/trayvon_martin.htmle:
First on the list.
It is reported that police did a toxicology report on Martin (We should know results soon)
Martin mentions drug use in his own comments on twitter/facebook
Martin was obviously a pretty good kid (A-B student). His parents gave him many experiences that most inter-city kids don’t have: playing in snow, riding horses etc.
BUT he was obviously having problems. Recent school suspencions, pages on internet etc are all signs of “something wrong/look into it.
As a parent of a child that would fit Martin’s description, I KNOW how important it is to get past denial and recognize the clues to a child’s acting out and trying to get adults attention. Knowing the language of street terms is part of that. If friends hadn’t told me of some of the language/locations etc connected to the drug culture my son would probably be dead.
I had people help me past denial, my son says I loved him into treatment. If Trevon and his parents had been as lucky.
If my educating others to these terms helps just one person on these threads see a similar side in their loved one your attack is WELL worth it.
Have a good day.

“Martin did exactly what any smart parent would teach his kids to do...he ran away from the stranger who got out of his car to follow him”. . . .EXCEPT call the police to report some lunatic following him.
Since he phoned his girlfriend, why not 911? BTW, I was surprised to read that he had gold teeth. Must have cost quite a lot.
Follow the link given above for more facts. We have more facts than you have, including statements and calls from eye witnesses.
Have you listened to eye-witness John’s statement? Have found both the transcipt and a video on line.
Can’t remember if initial police report is at link above or on another thread. If it’s not there ping me and I’ll find it for you. On Scribt from Sanford police dept.
Initial partial police report from the first two officers on duty is available...It contains six-plus witness reports.
Just cheap foil that kids use to mimic the Hip-Hop group. If you look at the picture the foil goes over teeth and down front not around each tooth.
1) Any eyewitness account of the time between the end of Zimmerman's taped call and the first 911 call, which describes the fight in progress - not the start of the fight. Until then you are just like everyone else - you do not know what happened.
2) Any evidence that Martin had drugs in his system or on his person. Please remember that lack of evidence is not evidence.
And, I read or listened to all the officially released Sanford PD docs and tapes last week. They say nothing about the two issues above. And, secret witness "John" does not say that he saw either the start of the fight or the actual shooting.
Indeed.
Also, the area of the shooting is described as a “gated community.” The media know “gated community” is code for rich, white, protected, exclusive. . .therefore a perfect description of a racist community.
I just went to Zillow.com to discover the average cost of a condo in the “gated community” (there are not single unit homes). The average price for a unit in that gated community runs a little over $100,000, with many units well below that.
Hardly the rich and exclusive gated community we are lead to believe.
Did you also read the interview with Trayton’s girl friend. She heard and relays the conversation and the beginning of the scuffle.
She stated that Treyvon started the conversation by asking question about being followed. Zimmerman answered with a question about why he was in the neighborhood. Then she heard sounds of scuffle and phone went dead.
Am sure since they had been on phone for hours that day she tried to call him back. Why didn’t she call the police?
Why didn’t Treyvon call police instead of GF if he was that worried about being followed?
Most of us who do have LE experience have encountered wannabees like zimmerman. My first impression of him was as a guy who sees indians behind every tree. I haven't read anything to change that impression. Usually hyper-vigilance comes from an innate fear or is a symptom of PTSD.
And, I did not "attack" you --- it was a caution about your projection.

Speak for yourself, buddy. I spent 20 years in law enforcement, most of that in a major city.
If it wasn't for vigilant citizens, half of the crimes I investigated wouldn't have ended in an arrest.
You need “training” to be able to determine suspicious behavior?
Are you serious?
Good Lord.
So. as many young people who have chosen their life career, he was enthusiast about his choice. I'd say that is a good/normal thing. Age and experience changes that. He also tutored young black and hispanic men on the weeks ends. Guess he was trying to be a good role model. Helping change the problems of the community, by helping others was not limited to his Neighborhood watch involvement.
Looked at some of the calls he made last night. He reported a car that was having mechanical problems for owner. Also young men climbing a chain link fence into community swimming pool when it was closed. Calls I'd have made wouldn't you?
IOW He wasn't shy about helping others and getting involved.
