This year may be an exception, however, as some Republicans are whispering in Romneys ear. What Democrats call the Republican war on women is mostly hype, but there is a constituency that the GOP primary season has given short shrift to -- and that constituency is Latinos.
Although its axiomatic that Hispanics are the fastest-growing demographic group in this country, there is, of course, no bloc Latino vote anymore than Hispanics themselves are monolithic. But loose talk about building moats (stocked with alligators, no less) along the nations southern border, enforcing laws designed for ethnic profiling, and self-deportation -- this last (inane) formulation is Romneys own -- has created a crying need for the Republican nominee to send a signal to 40 million Americans that they are not going to be marginalized by the Party of Lincoln.
But this need is also an opportunity for Mitt Romney: He can be the first nominee of a major political party to choose a Hispanic running mate.
So then the question becomes: Who should it be?

Sonia Sotomayer and her “compelling life story” already has a job so that rules her out.
I say have him run with Zimmerman. LOL!
Why a Latino? Why not a female? Why not a black person? or an Asian?
You’re correct-—acting like the Liberals with their box of labels.
The author must mean “White Hispanic”.
Willing to pander to anyone but conservatives.
Why not a gay Latino!? Who had an abortion too!!!
If it must be such a person then I say Louis Gomert of Texas.... now he is my kind of conservative (which is why it won’t be him)
No wonder Sharpton, Jackson, and Farrakhan all keep dredging up race- because too many folks want to cling to it.
How about whoever the GOP candidate is- they pick a solid Conservative...
Why not a transgendered afro hispanic mix?
He could pick Bill Richardson; might as well have two democrats running on the republican ticket.
Pick a running mate (whoever is the nominee) based on conservatism.
Lest we forget, Biden was picked because of his foreign-policy credentials (and we see how well that worked out).
“I say have him run with Zimmerman. LOL!”
Me too.
The GOP establishment is always saying they want the Hispanic vote...
but they threw Jorge under the bus just as fast as they could!
How a group as inept as the GOP establishment can cause so much misery is beyond me.
I suppose Hugo is out, he won’t live long enough.
Romney has not won.
We are now at the stage, the 4th quarter, where many conservatives become weary and start to give up. That is what they want; it is what they EXPECT, just like in 2008.
They have these trivial endorsements lined up throughout the campaign like todays Rubio endorsement. They are sequenced. They are choreographed. They are scheduled long in advance. The Rubio, Ryan and Bush endorsements have likely been on the calendar from day one. They are designed to cause disillusionment, to make you think it is time to get in line and drink the poison from their trough with the rest of them.
Romney Rents Supporters - Many who may be as Legal as his Lawn Maintenance. http://www.TableOfWisdom.com
Obama... he’s gotta have had some Latino “in” him.....
Justice Sotomayer would be the choice -
a “severe conservative” like Milt.
Susan Martinez is a good conservative and right on all the big issues. She does lack experience, but then, so did Obama.
