WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama says if President Ronald Reagan was running for president now, he "could not get through a Republican primary today."

Obama said during a question-and-answer session with newspaper editors on Tuesday that Reagan was forced to raise taxes and spending cuts to deal with high deficits during his presidency in the 1980s.

Obama knows damn little about anything, and even LESS about Republican politics.

If Reagan were running, he would win all 57 states.

Reagan was never ‘forced to’ do anything

He was offered a deal by the lying weasel demoraps that they would give him 2 dollars of spending cuts for every dollar tax increase he agreed to.

The tax increases happened, the spending cuts never did.

Likewise Bush was offere THREE dollars in spending cuts for every dollar tax increase. Once again the lying wasel democraps implemented the tax increases but NOT the spending cuts.

Lying weasel Obama and the lying weasel democraps offered John Boehner 10 dollars of spending cuts for every dollar tax increase. Knowing the spending cuts would never happen, and he would be hammered for that tax increases, he showed on of the few good moments he had as Speaker and refused the ‘deal’.

Unfortunately, Obama is correct on this one. Everyone could find a single issue they didn’t like about Reagan these days.

He’s right to a point. The establishment in 1980 was against Reagan just as much as they are anybody but their boy Romney today (and their boy McCain four years ago, etc.).

Reagan undercut them with his “I am paying for this microphone” outburst in New Hampshire. Reagan rallied the people, just as Newt did with unvarnished, patriotic conservatism.

The establishment knew this history and worked to destroy Gingrich first in Iowa, then again in Florida.

They will do anything to prevent a real conservative from gaining the presidency.

Ah, the old “Reagan raised taxes” Democrat canard.

Net taxes fell during Reagan’s eight years. Democrat mendacity during Reagan’s second term has already been posted on this thread, but leave it to Baraq al-Husayn to come up with another big lie for his supine national press.

I see the @$$hole is trying to morph into Reagan again right before the election to make himself look reasonable. This tired meme about Reagan doing what he did in the 80’s and equating it to today is BS. For one thing, at this point in the ‘84 election cycle, Reagan had the economy roaring back to life and everyone could feel it. Today, this loser has things so screwed up, everyone is just waiting for the other shoe to drop. Oil prices seem to be said shoe.

The 1984 tax legislation lowered the top individual income tax rate (for most taxpayers) from 50% to 28%, while broadening the tax base by eliminating many loopholes. Of course, Grover Norquist would consider the latter provision a tax increase, so maybe Obama had a point.

Boehner was told by the Whip he didn’t have the votes for a deal. He did the right thing because his feet were held to the fire by the Tea Party Caucus. But for that fact, Boehner would have jumped for the deal about this fast (insert sound of fingers snapping).

He is right but because Romney with his money, the RINOs and the GOP-e would have tried to bury Reagan under a mountain of garbage by now.

I can just hear the cries of Reagan focuses too much on social issues. We need somebody who can appeal to the moderates. Reagan is just too extreme, too old, too conservative. He’s out of touch. They’d say Reagan was once pro-choice, just like Romney already has been doing. Liberaltarians, RINOs, GOP-E all trashing Reagan conservatives while blaming them for doing the trashing. Now they have their friend, marxist number one, joining in with them. It’s just disgusting.

He is right but because Romney with his money, the RINOs and the GOP-e would have tried to bury Reagan under a mountain of garbage by now.

The bluebloods did that very thing in 1976 and 1980.

And what did Reagan do? Picked HW Bush....

And that's the kind of compromise that is getting the vicious reaction to Rubio and Ryan for endorsing Romney....and will go nuclear when Palin endorses him.

Reagan used to have happy hours with his opponents in Congress.

Reagan wasn't a purist, which makes him appear perfect now in hindsight.
