On Morning Joe today, Scarborough said that while they won't admit it on TV, "no one" in the GOP establishment believes Mitt Romney will beat Barack Obama in the general election. The DNC/Obama team want to drag our the primary and so will attack Romney.
Spoken like a true GOP elitist who wants No One But Romney. The long primary doesn't hurt our candidate any more than it hurt Obama. The truth is the long primary has exposed how utterly crappy a candidate Romney is. Normally we wouldn't have found out until he went down in defeat in November. Now at least no one can say they weren't warned. And maybe next primary the voters will have learned to heed the signals better.
If over half the Republicans are voting against him, how in the world does anyone think he's going to win independents let alone soft Democrats? The only realistic shot we have to win the election is to damage Romney so badly that the party or the delegates abandon him at the convention. Unlikely but one can hold out hope that some external force like what derailed Cain shows its face a little too early now that he's seen as inevitable.
That leaves brokered convention as the last not-Romney option ... but do we want to pick our nominee and give them only 60 days? The GOP elites dont, which is why they are coming around Romney now.
LOL, NOW?! NOW?! They've been forcing this pathetic candidate on us for a year now. They and their surrogates have been out to destroy Palin, Cain, Newt, Santorum and everyone who presented a threat to their Wall Street RINO golden boy. You'll get no apology from me if something I say or do helps take Romney out. He deserves it and teaching the GOP elites a lesson is arguably more important than defeating Obama. If we lose our conservative opposition party, we've lost the country for good. A Romney win would pretty much destroy the conservative movement for a decade or more. An Obama win would only delay it 2 or 4 years.
Most of us here aren't little team-playing Republican sycophants. We're conservatives who believe in more than the "rah, rah, go team" cheerleading mentality for whatever limp, liberal loser the party sticks an "R" after their name and tries to shove down our throats. It's sheep like you who keep showing up and voting for these useless RINOs instead of having the courage to take back power from the elites and give it back to the average citizen.
I don’t agree. First, I don’t accept the comparison of Reagan to Romney. Second, Obama is beatable, but only by a Conservative. If you run Obama against Obama-lite you’ll get Obama every time. That is what happened when McCain was the Obama-lite candidate, and that is what will happen if Romney is the Obama-lite candidate.

romney cannot explain with passion the Conservative ideology and lay out plans to solve America's problems using them... because he does not understand nor does he believe in them. America may elect romney... I doubt it... but he will not be any different than a run of the mill rat like clinton. Yes, a crusty white turd would be better than obama... but that is what mitt is... a crusty white turd.

How do you think Newt won back the House in 1994 after 40 years? He knows how to market a conservative message to independents more than anyone else out there. He speaks in plain English and explains the practical benefits of conservatism with specific examples. And at least Rick Santorum provides a clear contrast to Obama, which will inspire people to vote if they are truly unhappy with Obama's presidency. You give them Romney, who's message is he'll do the same things as Obama but he'll just do them better, and they will start doubting that Obama is that bad of a president at all. And unless they think the incumbent is truly terrible, they're not likely to take a chance replacing him with an unknown.
It's thinking like yours that brought us Romney. You "assume" independents will only vote for middling, murky moderates. Therefore you throw true conservatives under the bus and support a guy you probably don't even like much because you think you're some genius political strategist who's outsmarted everybody. Then you'll act shocked in November when you realize you weren't the only one who disliked your moderate candidate, everyone else does too.
That's why voting with your heart in the primary works. Because that's how people will be voting in November. If your vote now is based on some convoluted strategy, then it will be a poor predictor of how people vote in November because they'll be voting with their heart.
Democrats voting for our candidate is fine. Liberals not so much. We would hope we can get moderate Democrats who may disagree with us on some issues, but agree on enough of them combined with a general dissatisfaction with Obama to switch over to us. The key is we appeal to them on the issues where they're conservative and maybe convince them those issues are the most important right now. If we say we're going to back liberal policies to get Democrat votes, then why are we even wasting our time? At that point we've lived long enough to see ourselves become the villain. But there are a lot of people who are not 100% with their party and others who are just voting "D" out of habit whose votes we should court.
I am not willing to stand by and do nothing. It may be that O is guaranteed but since I live in today and not the future I will do everything I can...
And it behooves all of those who don’t like the idea of another term for O and the dims to do everything they can to prevent it
I’m not demoralized at all. I’m just certain that Romney won’t win. Luckily for me, my life is not based on political outcomes. The GOP is getting what it wants, but it’s not getting my vote as I won’t vote for evil be it Democrat or Republican.
The latest talking point is delivered to Mika. Every now and then, you can catch her looking at her blackberry/iphone while the show is on. It happened this morning at about 5:15 Central Time.
And when Obama comes for you, after this country is permanently ruined, you can keep telling yourself that your “Principles” were well worth losing it for.
Those precious “moderates” as you describe them are by definition mostly non partisan and would eschew (what the conceive to be) either a radical Lefty or Righty.
This is all about how he comes across as a candidate in the general election. If he gets the support of the Reg Republicans he will get the support of the moderates in sufficient numbers and even get a few of the Dems to hop on board. I put absolutely NO weight in those polls which claim Romney is insincere, plastic, smarmy or any of the other terms used to describe him. I believe the polls at this point are wholly manipulated to be nothing more then push polls.
Which history says you won’t have after 2014. The opposing party to the president usually wins seats in the mid-terms. Romney has proven as governor that he will bend over for a liberal legislature, if not try to “out-liberal” them if he thinks that’s where the wind is blowing. This is why we’re probably better off with him losing now. Then we can maintain gridlock against Obama, win more seats in 2014, and get a better nominee in 2016. If we get Romney now, chances are Dems will win seats in 2014 and then win back the presidency in 2016, a repeat of 2006 and 2008. Then they’ll have the mandate and the majority to pass single payer health care, cap-and-trade and do everything else they want.
If Obama wins relection there will be no country worth saving in 2016. Obama will not let gridlock stop him. Obama is not going to play by the rules in his second term when it comes to implenting his socialist agenda.
