WASHINGTON (AP)—A White House spokesman said Thursday that President Barack Obama believes women should be admitted as members to the all-male Augusta National, home of the Masters golf tournament.

White House press secretary Jay Carney told reporters that Obama’s “personal opinion is that women should be admitted” to the golf club. Carney said it was “up to the club to decide” but Obama told him he personally thinks women should be welcome.

“We’re kind of long past the time when women should be excluded from anything,” Carney said.

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, Obama’s likely challenger in the fall, said “of course” he would allow women in “if I could run Augusta.”

So they think it’s okay to tell a private club what to do?

What’s next ... demanding that the Catholic Church ordain women?

Mitt, reality check: The people who really, really care about whether women ever get into Augusta are never, ever going to vote for you. Or anybody else on or near the right. For those of us in the real world, it’s not that big an issue that Meg Whitman and Oprah Winfrey and the like can’t join Bushwood on the Savannah. It really is not. I doubt at this point that it’s even that big of an issue with Meg and Oprah and them. They’ve survived quite nicely without it.

The Government forcing them to isn’t a part of the discussion.

If he had framed it differently and said the club should do what it wants next question up: "do in your opinion it would be OK to exclude blacks"?

Then he should say it's not the same thing. Racial differences are meaningless but gender differences are real. Which is why we allow gender-segregated schools, dorms, bathrooms, etc. but not the same for different races.

Tired of women trying to bully their way into every private club for men only. Let them start their own. The women who play golf can find hundreds of clubs to play on. I am a women and believe some things for men and other things for women.

They don't agree.

Obama says women should be admitted.

Romney says women shouldn't be excluded.

Oh wow, you just made the Post of the Year!

Augusta National should be made to allow someone in to their organization, right after conservative minded people start running the mass media.

Hey odumbo, seeing as how you think this is any of your business, why don’t you just issue one of your illegal executive orders ordering women admitted?
Better yet, why don’t you just hire another czar to be in charge of this mega problem that you’ve inserted your ego maniac self in?

In all fairness, Romney’s statement was pretty harmless.

Then you get the entire MSM/Dem axis parsing his words for the next 2 weeks with all the legal expert on tap to examine the laws and give their opposing opinions on whether he's right/wrong. And we get the women up in arms which is just what obama wants.

I say...get rid of the issue quick. Obama is having a terrible 2 weeks. Keep the attention on him, not on a stupid golf club question.

for those of you that think about voting for Mitt... he's a white version of Obama. He's Dole without the sense of humor, McCain without the hot wife and beer distributorship.

I say let Obama run this train off the tracks and block him by voting for CONSERVATIVE congressional and senatorial candidates.

Cause Mitt will wilt and give it up to the libs so that "things get done" and "government can grow" the economy and on and on....

I'm NEVER voting for Mitt.
