I favor the tax and will vote for it as will most conservatives.

So I assume there will just be that much more mail purchases and smuggling? I am sure organized crime very much likes this tax.

I think the principle of such taxation is antithetical to liberty.

I favor the tax and will vote for it as will most conservatives. Not being contentious, just curious. Why do you favor the tax? Why do you think most conservatives will vote for it?

The title should be “Big government tax tries to screw tobacco companies out of 9million.”

Doesn’t it require a credit check to take out a loan big enough to buy a pack of cigs in California?
I am an ex-smoker but don’t begrudge those who continue to smoke. Freedom doesn’t start where my desires end — it must be upheld for all, especially those who do unpopular but free actions/

I favor a tax on all those who favor the tax. Make that a double.

Why no huge tax on alcohol?
I don't smoke but it seems unfair to tax cigs so extravagantly and not alcohol
Alcohol causes just as much more deaths than cigs- plus all the distruction and heartbreak.

are more people smoking than ever, or is just that they’ve all been forced out onto the sidewalk?

I suggest most California conservatives would at this point sooner nuke Sacramento from orbit than vote it another penny.

".....I favor the tax and will vote for it as will most conservatives....." As one of the few and last Conservative Business owners still here in Calif., you don't speak for me. You apparently seem to think Californians are NOT taxed enough already; that fact (the mere thought) alone is disgusting. There aren't enough alleged "Conservatives" left in Calif., to pass this law. But every Left Wing Kook, Goon + Freaky here 'probably will' vote for another tax + when they and YOU do, you'll already be quite aware of where you can put your copy of your L.A. Slimes Newspaper, as you probably are STILL one of the few home delivery subscribers.

Remmeber how the lottery was sold to us? “Our schools will benefit too.” what a crock of feces.
Conservative, eh? Like the Republican party. What nonsense.
