Tunes For The Troops

**Artist Showcase**

*Still Bill Trailer*

William Harrison "Bill" Withers, Jr. (born July 4, 1938) is an American singer-songwriter and musician who performed and recorded from 1970 until 1985. He is well known for songs like "Lean on Me", "Ain't No Sunshine", "Use Me", "Just the Two of Us", "Lovely Day", and "Grandma's Hands".

Withers was born the youngest of six children in the small coal-mining town of Slab Fork, West Virginia. Raised in nearby Beckley, West Virginia, Withers was twelve years old when his father died. He enlisted with the United States Navy at age eighteen and served for nine years, during which time he became interested in singing and writing songs. Soon after his discharge from the Navy in 1965, he relocated to Los Angeles in 1967 for a musical career.

Withers worked as an assembler for several different companies, including Douglas Aircraft Corporation, while recording demo tapes with his own money, shopping them around and performing in clubs at night. When he debuted with the song "Ain't No Sunshine" he refused to resign his job because of his belief that the music business was a fickle industry and that he was still a novice compared to other acts.

Enjoy the variety of musical selections that the Canteen Deejays provide throughout the thread. Please ping any DJ with your requests for the Troops!

All music is removed on Monday.
Thanks to all the DeeJay's for their time & effort providing entertainment for the Troops!

OK...I’m ready to go! San Luis Obispo County airport is where I fly into every Thanksgiving...then drive 15 miles south to Arroyo Grande. Lived there before moving to Alaska. The Arroyo Grande Harvest Festival is in the old town, and on Branch St...I worked at City Hall just down the street from the picture. (Vacations on hold with the parental duties right now....last year was the first year I haven’t been back since 1983).

Thanks, Cindy, for the vacation videos...too cool!! ((HUGS))

A bit late with the ping tonight. The overhead garage door guy came just as you posted. Several times this week I’ve tried to open the door with my remote, and nothing. Then after backing out it won’t close. Or it does close and when I get home it won’t open.

Got new batteries yesterday, but no dice this morning. I think his adjustments and new batteries re-installed and messing with the battery compartments and both remotes are working now. Will see in the morning.
