Blackhawks and A/MH-6 Little Bird helicopters used by special forces circling low through downtown Chicago skies made for a scary scene along the Chicago River, as they rattled windows flying among the city's skyscrapers.

The training exercise comes as the city found out some of the details of what the Secret Service wants for security at next month's summit at McCormick Place.

Calling it routine training, city officials said in a statement such exercises are conducted by military personnel in various cities around the country. They say the exercises are designed to improve the military's ability to operate in urban environments.

I thought they did routine training on base.

Wonder if this is related to the "unexpected" high number of murders in Chi-town

I may have missed some but I accounted for 53 shootings and 9 killings in a 2 week period. Since the majority of them occured on Friday night thru Sunday mornings, I think the safest days to travel thru there are Monday morning thru Thursday afternoon.....

(Use the bathroom before you get to town then drive fast and don't stop for anything)

Who are they trying to intimidate? Citizens? Anarchists won't give a flip... Anyone think our military would take out demonstrators using Blackhawks? Gimme a break.

Standard police helicopters could 'follow' a fleeing perp just as easily.

It's intimidation. Grandstanding. Something a lowlife like Louis Farrakhan would dream up.

Well, lessee, we can fly Air Force One low over the city.

Nahhh, that’s been done already.

Let’s use the black helicopters.

The Secret Service has an extensive shopping list to fortify the Chicago NATO summit, from barriers to withstand a vehicle going 50 mph to 8-foot-high fences that can’t be climbed.
Except by our southern neighbors if it was on the border.

If they really do work, why not put them on the southern border?

Oops, the would be racist stopping Mexicans from coming over here for the democrat voting base.

Why not hold the summit in a small town where it is easier to secure an area.

And lose the opportunity to train for urban assault in built-up terrain?

Both party's have proclaimed this impossible! Fences don't work to secure borders. Just axe Juan McAmnesty!

Why not hold the summit in a small town where it is easier to secure an area. Like maybe Plattville or Helmar?

Entertainment and accessibility. I saw more than a few summits, conferences, whatever you want to call them, with high-ranking government officials during my time in the military, from the '70s through the '90s, Asia, the Middle East, Europe, the US and Canada.

They aren't going to travel all that way just to visit Podunkville. Everything they discuss in person could most likely be conducted via email and teleconferences (and probably already has been discussed on some level). This is all about taking advantage of their positions.

So this is just an exercise of pre-empting the People for the sake of pre-emption, for putting on a big show of self-consequence and "walking wide" and swinging their elbows to catch people, just like Saddam used to.

Wonder if they'll have a special balcony built where they can fire rifles and Browning High Powers over the ordinary people's heads? The image politics would be priceless, the ego-boost positively ithyphallic.

Welcome to the last 5,000 years of civilization, although I'm sure leaders were inconveniencing people long before that.

This is larger than a lot of get-togethers, but I've also seen larger ones.

As for the balcony to fire off rifles, you should find a friend in government or the military who can get you into one of the major arms shows. You can watch civilian and military leaders fire off much more powerful weapons than rifles or Brownings.

rfreedom4u, you asked why Chicago? Besides the fact that they aren't going to travel here to visit Podunkville, the answer was staring us right in the face - the people handling all of the catering and contracting and rental equipment are probably Obama supporters from his Chicago days.
