Obama Once Needed 'to Take a Subway or a Bus Just to Find a Fresh Piece of Fruit’ By Penny Starr April 18, 2012

(CNSNews.com) - Barack Obama's vision as president is shaped by the fact that he knows what "it's like to take a subway or a bus just to find a fresh piece of fruit in a grocery store," Housing and Urban Development Secretary Shaun Donovan said last week.

Donovan seemed to be suggesting that the president had once lived in what First Lady Michelle Obama now refers to as a "food desert"--a place without a nearby supermarket. The First Lady has launched an initiative to eliminate these places.

“Why has all this work been such a priority for the president and every one of us in the administration?” Donovan said. “Because he knows what you know: He knows what it’s like to walk the halls of public housing because he’s worked there.”

“He knows what it’s like to walk the streets of some of our cities’ poorest neighborhoods because he’s lived there,” Donovan said. “What it’s like to take a subway or a bus just to find a fresh piece of fruit in a grocery store.”

Donovan also said the president had to “wonder” about whether he could “afford a college education or decent health care” or be “judged” unfairly.

A disgracefully corrupted dog, by now hopelessly irredemable. I’m glad I haven’t corrupted my Pitador and Great Dane the same way. They only sleep with me because of the terrible danger of irreversible rejection trauma if I didn’t let them share the bed with me.

Obama's life story is a fiction. There is fresh fruit growing everywhere in Hawaii. In Kauai people will put fruit in a cardboard box with a sign stating the price and let people buy the fruit on the honor system.

I cannot imagine that there is not fruit growing everywhere in Indonesia either.

Leftists are such lying pukes!

Today’s NYTs has a large article on a study debunking the whole “food desert” myth. It’s worth a read.

Gee, if you live in the White House, I’d imagine it’s quite a schlep to the the nearest grocery store, but do you really want to make such situations the basis for public policy for the rest of the country? A lot of “food deserts” may be in wealthy, gated communities.

Just thought I'd correct the title a little.

One of their best sketches! I was lucky enough to see them live at City Center in the late 70s (or early 80s) and they did that sketch brilliantly.

40 years ago in rural Alaska, for a while we had it rough and one did not linger in the two holer outhouse at 40 below. After creek water, the kids thought a well with a hand pump was a luxury.

This is becoming pathological.
Both of them are on some kind of power trip.

Another reason for these fascists to take over another industry. Yes, that's it - bail out failing Albertson's and force them to sell fruits and vegetables at a reduced price..."Cash for Clunkers"??? Now we got "Produce for Po' Fokes"!!!

I was also going to say that those ghetto bodegas have selections of booze that you won’t ever find outside the hood.
My friends and I used to travel there just to get certain 40 ouncers. I guess our neighborhoods had “beer deserts”.

OMG that so true in certain areas of Los Angeles LOL! hint Compton and Watts

He sure does. He knows public housing very well.

Obama's "community organizing" left Chicago neighborhoods in ruins.

Grim proving ground for Obama's housing policy

"About 99 of the units are vacant, many rendered uninhabitable by unfixed problems, such as collapsed roofs and fire damage. Mice scamper through the halls. Battered mailboxes hang open. Sewage backs up into kitchen sinks. In 2006, federal inspectors graded the condition of the complex an 11 on a 100-point scale - a score so bad the buildings now face demolition."

Long article, lots of details, lots of names both familiar (Rezko) and unfamiliar.
