Barack Obama's Re-election Bid is Already in Deep Trouble. "Hot Diggity Dawg" Says it All!
Daily Mail ^ | April 19, 2012 | Toby Harnden

Newt Gingrich may not have got the memo but the battle for the Republican nomination is over. Some in the Romney campaign were hoping for a Febuary end but others were fearing it would go on until June and a small number of Republicans even predicted a convention fight in August.

All in all, April is not a bad result for Mitt Romney - long enough to test him, short enough to allow him to focus solely on the general for the final six months.

Despite the very recent and ugly and negative primaries, Romney's struggle with conservatives and the relative difficulty he had in overcoming a lacklustre field, Republicans - who tend to fall in line more readily than Democrats - are already uniting behind him.

Obama_1318962c President Barack Obama: in deep trouble

The RealClearPolitics poll average puts President Barack Obama at 47 percent and Romney at 44.2 percent - statistically insignificant lead of 2.2 percent.

Drill down into the numbers of the latest CBS poll and there are ominous signs for Obama. Only 33 percent of Americans believe the economy is moving in the right direction. A mere 16 percent feel they are getting ahead financiallty. Some 38 percent think their situation will get worse of Obama is re-elected, 26 percent think it will get better.

A cursory look back at incumbent versus challenger presidential races does not give Obama much comfort.

In April 1976, President Gerald Ford was in about the same position as Obama is now. He lost the 1976 general election to Jimmy Carter by two points. In April 1980, President Jimmy Carter was leading Ronald Reagan by 38 points to 32 points with John Anderson on 22. In November 1980, Reagan won by three points.

I still say if he is low enough in the polls, Hillary will be he VP on the ticket with him.

That could boost turnout for the Republican candidate more than Obama. Biden is a harmless doofus compared to Hillary.

“Just about the only way Obama can win again is if we run Romney, and I think a lot of people realize that.”

Who, then, is almost certain to beat Obama in the general election if only he/she wins the Republican nomination?

Wow! calling me out as a “troll”?! Again, the last resort of a weak argument, or an effort to totally dismiss someone is to brand them. It just shuts down conversation. I appreciate your beliefs but there is no reason to call me something like that. Why resort to that?
You believe what you have written and you make good points. I believe something else...so what? I believe it is a greater evil to allow Obama to stay in the white house then it is to vote for Mitt. At least we have space to breath and push the agenda forward with him as president. Another four years of this guy and you may not have the freedom to push. That’s what I believe, and I’m no troll for having that belief.

Correct. It will be a hard fought campaign needing a tight message focusing on Cook County and Obama’s record as President. Couple that with solid conservative wins and we begin to move the ship of state our way. We have to do it over several years, holding SCOTUS to a Constitutional Originalist 5+ majority. It will take decades of control to undo the liberal’s mess.

......dazzling bullshit ....

Whom exactly is he dazzling? Rush, (of whom I am no great fan, BTW) said,
"....Obama is a great speaker of you don't listen to the words."

I have never understood a word the man has read from his two teleprompters except the implied threat.

The man CANNOT SPEAK. He is an uneducated Left-Wing simpleton who is however, smart enough to do as he is told and not deviate from whatever is on his teleprompters.

“Newt Gingrich may not have got the memo but the battle for the Republican nomination is over.”

Whatever.... how many states have yet to vote in their respective primary? How many delegates does Mittens have/need?

It’s telling enough that Mittens only has what he has after spending how much? For a job that pays nothing near the expenditures. It’s disgusting actually... all in the name of greed and power.

Let’s see how well you do with the establishment, media, and nay-sayers all lined up against you from the get go.

Newt is filling up venues wherever he happens to speak.

Folks are impressed with his command of the issues as well as his solutions to set our country back on the path of prosperity.

If given the opportunity, Newt will put a smack-down on 0 the likes of which this generation has yet to witness.

As far as I’m concerned, a vote for Newt is a vote against communism.

It ain’t o’er til the fat lady sings.

No one is happy with a strictly "Two-Party" system.

As is painfully obvious, it means that as the ideology diverges from dead center, each party contains a very broad spectrum of political thought. There are Conservatives who vote Democrat. There are Liberals who vote Republican.

As the Two-Party System has evolved, the Center, the Center Right, and The Center Left have coalesced to divide the spoils. The Republican Party gets its cut, win lose or draw. If the cut is OK, it's easy to see why they don't particularly care about winning more than a good seat at the table.

Along the way, the Republican Party has absolutely conceded the machinery of Government to the Democrats, as one lunch in DC will prove to even the most obtuse.

Now, what do we do about it? Or about Mitt? So far he has not outlined a Program, A Plan, nor shown the leadership to implement the constitutional reforms needed to cure the Republic. And, neither has anyone else.

OK, but remember when this was tried on Ted Kennedy, all it succeeded in doing was giving him 80% of the female vote in Massachusetts. The soft-hearted goobers felt sorry for him because of McCormack's attacks! (Although I have the feeling that because of Obama's natural arrogance and aloof attitude, folks might secretly welcome a well-administered verbal flogging.)

Here's what I want from Newt, in addition to his debating skills, which would crush The Mombasa MF who is lost without his Sorosprompters:

A PROGRAM
A PLAN to implement it.
LEADERSHIP to blast it through Congress.

Where is the Republican Platform? I know how bad Kid Kenya is, but he has strong support from the Negroes, The Young, The Women (dammit!), The Jews, and The Latinos. If he gets his numbers, he gets the big states and their electoral votes. I think people want to vote FOR something. Not particularly AGAINST Obama.

No one. Hence, the sarcasm. Sorry, I guess we need to use tags constantly with this jug eared ahole.

Aw jeez!~ This is poetic justice. I am always ragging on folks who need the “tags.” Perhaps I can use the feeble excuse that The Mombasa MF makes me so angry that I can’t use (what’s left of) my brain?

Thanks to Breitbart ACORN will be under scrutiny.

No they won't, they just change their name and move along. Beck was the mover and shaker on this group of thugs, countless hours of connecting the dots, but the videos from O'Keefe, made the story go boom.

I think Hillary! is a huge possibility for VP..Biden has been laying too low for too long...something’s up.

Choosing Hillary! would fit in with the whole “War on Women” crap that they had been desperately trying to make an issue; they lost control of that narrative-but I think they are playing the gender card for a reason...so I think he will choose a VP from whatever group he needs votes from-it may be an illegal-who knows?? Maybe it will be Michelle!

He rules like a King, so anything is possible.

TOL,

Thanks for the ping.

How very exciting indeed! One n00b zotted and the other one is trying hard to pick a fight by admonishing FReepers on how to conduct a conversation.

Playing victim won’t help. It’s kind of zotty because it attracts the bolt and the kitties.

I disagree with the author that 2012 is a repeat of 1992 or 2004. I disagree.

I think 2008 was 1968: an unpopular war and a candidate running on a platform to get us out running against a retread from the incumbent party.

This election is lining up as a repeat of 1980. The economy stuck in recession and not recovering, there are stifling high energy prices, U.S. foreign policy seems ineffective, there is an industrial giant rising in Asia threatening the U.S. economy, and most importantly, there is a complete collapse of trust in government institutions. The GSA and Secret Service scandals will further cause a distrust of Washington D.C.

Romney is no Reagan (nor was any other Republican candidate). But I think Obama's numbers will start crumbling in late summer. There is not enough enthusiasm in his base of young voters and African Americans. This election will be Romney's to lose. Heck, it would have been any nominee's to lose.

I’d say it would be somebody we haven’t considered as a candidate yet (possibly Paul Ryan, although the socons might not like him), or possibly Gingrich (the only “cheerful” candidate, as even one of his detractors admitted) or possibly - well, I don’t seriously think that Sarah Palin has any interest in running.

But Romney really has no chance, and the fact that they tried to balance a bad Presidential candidate with a good VP the last time around has made that strategy unworkable this time. Nobody is going to vote for VP. That’s a waste of time.
