And yet we keep hearing about black-on-black crime because it fits the false media narrative.
When it comes to America's racial past and present, lies and snake oil are sold in many colors.
In the wake of the Trayvon Martin tragedy, conservatives in media have sought to deflect from the racism and racial profiling that precipitated his untimely death by referencing the broader social malaise of supposed "black-on-black violence."
On last week's episode of This Week on ABC, Washington Post columnist George Will said that despite the Trayvon tragedy, "150 black men are killed every week in this country," and "about 94 percent of them by other black men."
Will parroted arguments made by many conservatives, his intended point being that black-on-black crime remains the real problem our nation should address. The half-truth he spoke went curiously unchallenged by the panel -- including former White House adviser Van Jones -- largely because the meta-narrative of black-on-black violence is widely accepted in journalistic and political circles.
Bill O'Reilly, the Fox News host and one-man propaganda machine, recently interviewed Columbia University professor Marc Lamont Hill to discuss similar claims from Wall Street Journal contributor Shelby Steele, who wrote in "The Exploitation of Trayvon Martin" that "black teenagers are afraid of other black teenagers, not whites." O'Reilly vehemently defended Steele's premise that the Trayvon Martin case is an anomaly.
"Blacks today are nine times more likely to be killed by other blacks than by whites," Steele wrote. He went on to attack the Revs. Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson for "exploiting" Trayvon's death in an effort to promote a "liberal" agenda -- a point that O'Reilly was all too happy to expound.
Steele's perspective, though myopic and misguided, remains pervasive and embedded in the broader social consciousness. This red-herring approach is not new,

Just my two cents...but if you drug-tested all murder suspects upon arrest...I suspect that ninety-eight percent would show something illegal in their system. No one wants to face up to the fact that illegal drugs are the overwhelming contributor to what we have in our jails today.
Whenever people say there are more blacks in prison than whites because of racism, I ask them if there are more men in prison than women because of sexism.
No matter how they answer, my point is made.

Where does one start with an author who does not understand simple math?
Blacks killing blacks at very high rates. Whites kill whites at very low rates. So, the problem remains that blacks are most likely to be murdered by blacks. T
he fact the author can’t grasp this is proof he is not the least bit interested in the facts or cares one white about the plight of blacks.

The statistics from the FBI are clear and murky at the same time.
90% of whites are killed by whites, while 90% of blacks are killed by blacks.
What is murky is where Hispanics fall into the mix.
The number of Black and White murder victims are almost the same. What doesn’t get mentioned is that blacks only represent 12% of the population.
The 2-1 ratio might be accurate but there are 8 times as many whites as blacks in this country so as a proportion of population blacks are 4 times as likely to be responsible for violent crime as are whites. The writer must assume a high degree of math ignorance among his readers.
Nonsense. People, by in large are group animals and will harm and hurt members of the same group. Thus, whites kill more whites and blacks kill more blacks. The difference is the percentage at which a particular group outperforms another.
Well, the last time I looked at the UCR stats, there is a separate category for "Hispanic" in the crime victim numbers, but not in the criminal offender numbers.
If "Hispanics" were taken from the criminal offender numbers, the "white" crime rate would be notably lower.

The majority of white victims and white offenders know one another unlike the random killings by out of control blacks.

Correlation != causation. I suspect if you test murder suspects upon arrest, a majority of them will be wearing blue jeans. The reason that no one wants to face up to the fact that blue jeans are the overwhelming contributor to what we have in our jails today, is because the relationship is spurious. Someone willing to commit murder will also be willing to disregard laws against drug usage.
Yes in terms of absolute numbers it makes sense that incidents of white crime out number incidents of black crime. But to be worse than black crime statistics wouldn't the figures have to be incidents of white crime outnumber incidents of black by more than 10-to-1?
Having made his 2-to-1 point he asks "Given this mathematical truth, would anyone encourage African Americans to begin shooting suspicious white males in their neighborhoods for fear that they'll be raped, assaulted or murdered?"
Nowhere did he answer no.
Instead he says millions of black boys and girls like [Trayvon], harbor a reasonably founded fear of whites. . . so that's why the black teens cross the street when they see this old geezer approach them on the sidewalk.
I think part of what the author wants is to make it anti-PC to say "black-on-black crime."
Well at least he didn't remind us what New York Congressman Major Owens "revealed" that to this day sharks follow ships crossing the Atlantic from Africa because during the slave-trading days 250,000,000 slaves were thrown overboard on the way here. (I think it was only 250 million.)

He also, like what seems to be the entire race obsessed parts of this country, never comment on Zimmerman’s head being beaten in to the pavement.
