Tea party will ‘absolutely’ back Romney in general election, says movement leader
The Daily Caller ^ | April 24, 2012 | Jamie Weinstein

Posted on 04/24/2012 8:00:09 AM PDT by St. Louis Conservative

Though the tea party wasn’t particularly enthused about Mitt Romney’s presidential candidacy during the primary, one tea party leader who was present at the inception of the movement says the tea party will get behind the former Massachusetts governor going into the general election.

“Absolutely, the tea party can and will support Mitt Romney in the general election, and with great energy in the door-to-door ground game,” said Michael Patrick Leahy, co-founder of The Nationwide Tea Party Coalition and author of the recently released book, “Covenant of Liberty: The Ideological Origins of the Tea Party Movement.”

“It’s important also to note that this is a strong sentiment at the local level — among the 3,000-plus local tea parties.”

“Though on the core values, Mitt Romney’s not as aligned with us as Michele Bachmann, he’s far superior to Barack Obama,” Leahy added.

“Our job in the tea party movement is to cautiously but vigorously befriend Romney, while reserving the right to encourage him — continuously — to align more closely with our core values. This encouragement to align has already begun, and it will continue through and beyond election day.”

Leahy also pushed back against the notion that the tea party is becoming increasingly irrelevant.

“[T]he tea party’s grassroots get-out-the-vote activities will be the deciding force of the 2012 presidential election,” he contested.

From what I can see there isn’t much difference between obama and romney. Both are friendly to sexual deviants and baby-killers,both want to force us to buy healthcare and who knows what else, both are hostile to private guns, both abuse executive powers while in office, both have aa history of “prevarication” and position switching.

Of two evils,choose neither.

I feel the way you do. My neice and her husband have almost lost their business in the last couple years. He is a master carpenter and the housing and improvement industry, coupled with all the regulations and Obamacare, have forced him to let his regular employees go.

If this economy doesn’t improve for small businessmen like my nephew in law, they will lose their home. On top of that, their daughter has a very bad illness and the medical bills are hurting them terribly.

I will also vote against Obama.

He has to go.

All the Tea-Party Christians I know, will not be voting for Romney.
So they won't vote at all or they'll vote for Dear Leader?
Stupid is as stupid does.

I suggest you check out my posting history on Free Republic. I’ve fought the battle to get a conservative candidate as hard as anyone here.

If the GOP wants to guarantee obama to win then they should run romney.

You are going to see the lowest voter numbers for a GOP presidential candidate since Dole.I really doubt the evangelical voters are going to vote for romney.

For conservatives, this is beginning to feel as though the Poles must have felt in 1939:trapped between two insane God-hating megalomaniacs.

Anybody who claims to be a Tea Party leader ain't, because it ain't a party.

It's a philosophy of constitutionally-limited government.

Fact is, undecideds usually go two-to-one for the challenger in Presidential elections with an incumbent.

Based on that alone, Ubama is toast.

And when that happens we'll hear "don't blame us for foisting a socialist POS 99.9% Obamao onto the [R] ticket, blame conservatives who left the plantation and did not vote for our socialist POS 99.9% Obamao thus allowing an additional 0.1% Obamao to stay in office and forcing us to reconsider exactly WTF we think we are doing".

And the leaders of all these self appointed factions all claim to be THE leader of the Tea Party.

No one at Tea Party Nation claims to be THE leader of the TPM

No one at the Tea Party Express either.

Tea Party.org I don't know anything about.

TheTeaParty.net (their founder came on FR and was qustioned and had no good answers and he never posted again) is a clone of The Tea Party Patriots, and is run by a marketer who tries to sell tea party people stuff. And collects lots of donations, misdirected away from tea party events, etc.

Their stated purpose (TPP and TTP.net) is to gather info on tea party groups and post them on their site for networking. That is a good resource at TPP, but other than that, they do that mainly to get donations.

Both them and the TPP are into making money.

One of the leaders of TPP takes credit for tea parties he happens to attend, as if he was the inspiration for them.

I know that as a fact, as he did that about a tea party put on by FR which I attended and saw him there.

He later was intervied by a major publication, and told how he had organized that tea party.

I exposed him by posting a thread here at FR about his fraud.

Both leaders of the TPP claim to be THE leaders of the TPM. And now have split their working together agreement. Who's thunk it?

There is no 'against Obama' lever. There is Romney(if he wins the nomination) or a conservative.

I won't vote for a liberal. Ever.

So you are calling conservatives, on a conservative forum, who intend to vote for a conservative, stupid?

Maybe you are on the wrong forum. There are forums for GOP shills. This isn't it.

Absolutely the truth!

I was speaking to a group of tea party people back in '09 and I told them that I knew who the leaders of the TPM are.

I broke the awkward silence by pointing to them and saying it is you, and the other millions that believe in our Constitutional Republic and are joining together to let their voices be heard.

The only conservative running for President that I am familiar with is Virgil Goode...he’ll get my vote before Romney; so I guess this Tea Party ‘leader’ doesn’t know much about the ‘movement’...

Not voting at all is slightly more stupid than voting for Romney. There. Is that better?

Of course, voting for Romney is stupider than writing in and supporting others who are Conservatives.
