College students protest debt on "Trillion Dollar Day" 7:15pm EDT

NEW YORK (Reuters) - College students held demonstrations in several U.S. cities on Wednesday to mark the day total U.S. student loan debt was expected to reach $1 trillion, with some burning student loan documents and others demanding a right to "debt-free degrees."
The demonstrations for "One Trillion Dollar Day" come as President Barack Obama was visiting colleges to push Congress to extend the low interest rates on college loans to more than 7.4 million students. If lawmakers fail to act, rates on the loans will double on July 1 to 6.8 percent.
Describing his own struggle to pay off college debt, Obama appeared at the University of Iowa at Iowa City on Wednesday to talk to students about his campaign to make education more affordable. He made similar appearances on Tuesday in North Carolina and Colorado.
Several hundred protesters, mostly college students wearing placards noting the size of their debt loads, rallied in New York City's Union Square park on Wednesday.
They set fire to student debt documents and held signs reading "Debt free degrees" and "Education in America: Don't bank on it."
Hadi Nassar, 31, whose eight years of undergraduate and dental school education has left him $186,000 in debt, said he was having to rethink his plan to work at a community health clinic.
"It makes me angry. It makes me not want to do what I set out to do - which was, help people, take care of people," said Nassar, a dental resid

The government’s meddling has encouraged the rise in tuition, through making more money available, through the encouragement of socially conscious course material, and through diversity initiatives enticing the marginally qualified into college.

The student loan deal is another liberal funding program.
Students borrow huge sums at subsidized rates, pay big $$ to colleges for overpriced education.
Schools pay big $$ in salaries to liberal profs and administrators.
Profs and admins contribute $$ to liberal candidates and causes.
And repeat.....

I have a nephew who also has a ton of student debt — I asked him (no answer btw) the size of the gun the loan officer held to his head when he promised to pay back the loan he got.
When I went to school, I had a plan (it changed while I was there but nonetheless I still had a plan when I graduated). I paid back my student loans — what makes the :gimme” generation’s loans somehow sacrosanct?
35 years old, 3 years from graduating with a sociology degree, and $111k in debt. There is a slow learner.

Yup! Might just be the source of the Brown Shirt Army! Four years of service to pay off what the military receive as benefits now. Kind of like the Peace Corps. Actually there is a Federal Loan forgiveness program but you have to work in Public service and make 120 payments.
Now the interest on student loans is an itemized deduction, and that was more than I got with a 9% loan.
The catch, of course, is that you have to have income (a job). “Debt-free education”!

Apparently investing 111,111 in her education was a very risky investment - she’s still stupid.
