A rare recording of one of the last live performances by jazz trumpeter Louis Armstrong has been made public.
The star played at the National Press Club in Washington DC, against the advice of his doctors, in January 1971, just over five months before he died.
The What A Wonderful World singer had been in ill health because of heart and kidney trouble, but felt strong enough to play five songs at the event.
His performance has been released as a digital download and on CD.
The move was prompted by the press club discovering a rare LP of the event.
Those who attended the show, which was hosted by the British journalist David Frost, were given vinyl copies of the recording.
But the LP, which includes classics such as Hello Dolly, Mack the Knife and Rocking Chair, had become largely forgotten over the decades'.

I was just listening to him. Man.. ****
Mack the Knife was one of my favorite songs as a kid.
Louis had great spirit.
How old was he in 1971...yeah, I could google it, but you know what?, screw that.
Nice, thanks!
He kept saying he was born on July 4, 1900, everybody should remember that. In fact he was born a year later.
thx. i don’t think i can forget that.
Cat Baloh, Lee Marven’s best career character hands down! Louis was teamed up with another white marquis musician. Does anyone remember? I’ll take a look and post it later. Nope it was Nat King Cole, nevermind.
I’ve had quite a few items ‘thieved’ from me over the years, but the only thing that ever pi**ed me off was the loss of my Louis collection. Thanks for the post, I’ll have to acquire these recordings. Louis performed the blues like few others.
Damn, they just don't write love songs like that anymore. If you think the words in the title are sexy, you should have heard the words of the song. Oh....to die for.

When the British had this FOB....they were overrun a couple of times and retreated the concrete citadel that is on it and waited til help arrived.
When the Marines took over the Taliban thought....thought....that they could still motor and walk around with their weapons.....now, someone with a knife draws immediate attention.
The Taliban are still here, but, they have a great fear of going up against the Marines in the field...and definitely not against this FOB.
Coast Guard myself, back in the day.
Louis Armstrong.....as a child in North Dakota, 50’s to mid 60’s, almost grew up on his music.
Beautiful.
Occasionally, when I am in Flushing Cemetery, someone from France or somesuch place will ask me where his grave is. I tell them and when I am done doing whatever I am doing I go find them and escort them to the grave.
