Private Buses Need Permits To Drive Into New York City

Private buses will have to get a permit from now on if they wish to drive into New York City.

This gives the city the Local lawmakers and the Department of Transportation joined forces to make the first of its kind system a reality.

In addition to issuing permits, the new legislation will designate pick-up and drop-off locations and require the city to consult with community boards about new stops.

"The volume of intercity buses on our streets is overwhelming. These buses idle, they make noise and they create dangerous conditions on our roadways," said Manhattan Councilwoman Margaret Chin.

Calls for the bill began after the deadly bus accident in the Bronx last March, when 15 people were killed.

It isn't long before requiring permits to get in morphs into requiring permits to get out. Forward!

Would this include Rock bands and their tour buses or will they be exempt?

These buses idle, they make noise and they create dangerous conditions on our roadways," said Manhattan Councilwoman Margaret Chin.

50 years of being pounded with "these cars idle, they make noise, and they create dangerous conditions on our roadways and we need to drastically increase our public transportation system and improve the buses after we levy a large tax to pay for it".

Because we all know that a "permit" would have prevented this.

Just like gun "permits" prevent shootings.

Ok so cars were bad and we invested in mass trasportation. Now mass trasportation is bad so lets repaint the streets for bicycles. That's where this "smart growth" crap is heading.

This is like those ecofascists that wanted us to get rid of oil and replace it with wind power and solar power, but then argued against windmills because they kill birds, and solar because it threatens turtle habitat.

First they tell us to get out of our cars and into buses, and now they tell us to stop getting on the buses.

Sheesh.

I'm told that the "A" rating so coveted by restaurants can be had by the average deli for about $600.

The rating is very clever. The city grades you. It's like the Scarlet Letter in reverse. It has to be posted on the window. It's very big, 6 inches or so. Thus, if you get a "B", people will probably just walk on by. So you "pay for the 'A'".

No. Private transportation is bad. Mass or otherwise.

Better to get out now.

All that aside, is this even legal? This really doesn't sit right with me as it intrudes on a number of issues beyond the normal nuttiness of these people.

Labor Unions just can’t deal with competition from non-union private firms. So, the Unions coerce the politicians to pass stupid regulations and laws.

Aimed at Megabus, who is now one of the largest bus lines in the Northeast. Asian owned and operated.

I'll bet they forgot to include Ms. Chen in their political contributions or on their Christmas card list.
