Family Feud Reveals Luxuries At Largest Christian TV Network Granddaughter attacks founders, who accuse her of embezzlement

The Trinity Broadcasting Network, which also runs the Holy Land Experience theme park in Orlando, Fla., is at the center of a family battle.

By Erik Eckholm

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. — For 39 years, the Trinity Broadcasting Network has urged viewers to give generously and reap the Lord’s bounty in return.

The prosperity gospel preached by Paul and Janice Crouch, who built a single station into the world’s largest Christian television network, has worked out well for them.

Mr. and Mrs. Crouch have his-and-her mansions one street apart in a gated community here, provided by the network using viewer donations and tax-free earnings. But Mrs. Crouch, 74, rarely sleeps in the $5.6 million house with tennis court and pool. She mostly lives in a large company house near Orlando, Fla., where she runs a side business, the Holy Land Experience theme park. Mr. Crouch, 78, has an adjacent home there too, but rarely visits. Its occupant is often a security guard who doubles as Mrs. Crouch’s chauffeur.

The twin sets of luxury homes only hint at the high living enjoyed by the Crouches, inspirational television personalities whose multitudes of stations and satellite signals reach millions of worshipers across the globe. Almost since they started in the 1970s, the couple have been criticized for secrecy about their use of donations, which totaled $93 million in 2010.

Now, after an upheaval with Shakespearean echoes, one son in this first family of televangelism has ousted the other to become the heir apparent. A granddaughter, who was in charge of TBN’s finances, has gone public with the most detailed allegations of financial improprieties yet, which TBN has denied, saying its practices were audited and legal.

TBN barred Jack Van Impe from preaching against Islam, and he left their stations.

This New York Times article is misleading and has an obvious agenda. At least one of the Newport Beach "mansions" is a home they bought some 40 or 50 years ago when Newport was cheap and sparsely inhabited. The other was donated by a single person, as I recall.

The TBN network is the world's largest TV network with over 18,000 affiliates. For comparison, ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox COMBINED have fewer than 1000 affiliates. The chief executives of those networks also fly in private jets, even though they do not have the same international footprint as TBN. The head of TBN makes $400K per year. I am sure each of the other networks pays far more.

I do not agree with everything TBN does, but I believe them to be honest and to live with relative modesty. For example, even though Mrs. Crouch is an on-air personality, she is known to wear the same clothes frequently, from year to year. She could easily justify an expensive wardrobe.

Anyone who buys this story without some skepticism probably also swallowed the NYTimes stories about "diva" Sarah Palin and her $150,000 campaign wardrobe.

If anyone is fooled by TBN - Crouch, Benny Hinn, and the like for 5 seconds they have NO SPIRITUAL Discernment.

People sitting around TV sets with everything painted gold, talking about how people at their services have real gold appear in their teeth, on clothing (etc) as well as many other false “signs”.

For a wicked and perverse generation demands a sign.

You missed my profile?

I drive by two Blessed Virgin Mary statues everyday and say at least one Hail Mary for each of them.

More Communist propaganda about humble servants of the Lord. Why, their poor pooches (slandered by the article) have worn the same tutus since they were born.

Absolutely!. Add the Rev. Schuller and Joel Osteen to this despicable list. It’s all a question of using religion to enrich family and relatives. Most, if not nearly all these suckers are senior white women!

Now in the midst of this semi-good natured ribbing of television evangelifrauds, I DO want to put in a good word for one of them, he may appear flamboyant, some might say that he is quick to smack the forehead with a resounding *YAY-YUH* !!! but I am here to tell you that in late 2003, I actually received a true healing from the man, it wasn't all in my mind, and he never so much as hinted at my giving a donation, in fact our meeting was private and 'off the grid', and he was quick to take NO credit for what was a miraculous healing, and gave all the Glory to God.

Now you can certainly Google up all sorts of data on him, some good,
some 'not so good', however MY experience was nothing but good.
I believe he is sincere, and I will never say an unkind word about him.
(and I confess to poking fun at him mercilessly for many years too)

I sure hope so, for when the ‘church’ started the devils 501C3 tax exemption nonsense they sold their souls to the devil. It gagged them to preaching pablum, not the Book of REVELATIONS and the retributions to come IF we as GOD’s people turn our backs on him.

We have witnessed through out the OT what GOD did to those Israelites who turned their backs on HIM, HE destroyed generations and sent them into slavery for centuries until they repented of their sins against HIM.

IF you haven’t read the Last book of the NT better do so, it is coming, we know not the hour or day, only GOD knows that.

I’m not all that religious but I seem to remember a line about how it would be easier for a camel to go through the
eye of a needle than a rich man to get into the kingdom of
Heaven. If so, then.... (also “love of money is the root
of all evil”—and they don’t have to pay taxes to the country that makes it possible.)

Champagne wishes and caviar dreams. Wasn’t there a preacher years ago who used to say “Don’t look for pie in the sky by and by when you die—get it now?” (Boston talk host Howie Carr has mentioned)

The Catholic church has had to deal with the pedophile priest problem. They have had to pay settlements...due to that and dwindling attendance, they’ve had to close churches. I remember the Boston Archdiocese was all set to buy an area
radio station but suddenly backed out. Not long after that I saw the reason why: the priest sexual abuse scandals were
about to come out. Clearly they needed the money for other
purposes...

JVI also left because he was disturbed about the so-called Christians allowed a forum on TBN who are into the ‘Prosperity/You deserve lots of good stuff from God’ doctrine. JVI is at Ground 0 there in the Muslim haven of Detroit, so he knows of what he speaks.
