Amazing story. One of the all time great flying feats. A hero of aviation and a hero to all those people who were able to survive that incident.

A fine man. He wept learning of the loss of life during that miraculous hard landing. He gave it his best. RIP Mr. Fitch.

Ditto that, I had a “heavy” pilot friend of mine tell me he was real sick a week or 2 back. RIP Mr. Fitch, you did very well...

I've seen several documentaries about this incident. He,and the other crew involved, sound like exceptionally skilled and brave people.Couldn't help but notice that he was Air National Guard...trained by the United States Armed Forces.

May he rest in peace.

To this day, in subsequent reconstructions of the accident in flight simulators, pilots have yet to succeed in reproducing Haynes’ and Fitch’s achievement of maneuvering an aircraft from mid air to runway without losing control.

Following Denny’s Progress...

The End of the Journey

Dear Friends and Family,

It is with the saddest heart that I tell you that my sweet Denny lost his battle with brain cancer last night. He put up the most courageous fight. We are so proud of the man who was a great husband, father, papa, friend and aviator. Everyone who ever met him, or listened to him speak, went away feeling inspired and was a better person for having met him. He is so loved!

His visitation will be at Yurs Funeral Home in St. Charles on Sunday May 13th from 12:00 noon to 8:00 pm. The address is 405 Main St, St. Charles, IL 60175

The funeral mass will be at 10:30 Monday, May 14th at Resurrection Church 30W350 Army Trail Road, Wayne, IL

A luncheon will follow.

We will make one more posting tomorrow.

We will have a block of rooms at a local hotel for you to make a reservation, if you need a place to stay. We would like to ask that in leu of flowers you make a charitable donation - we don’t have that organization chosen yet - we will get that information to you by tomorrow.

Thank you for your support.

Love,

Rosa Fitch

Will always remember a young co-worker here, who lost his Mom on that flight.
