U.S. completes warmest 12-month period in 117 years
Washington Post ^ | 5-8-12 | Jason Samenow

Dating back to 1895, never has the U.S. strung together 12 straight months warmer than May 2011 to April 2012 according to new data released today by NOAA’s National Climatic Data Center (NCDC) .

The record-setting 12-month period edged out November 1999-October 2000, the 2nd warmest 12-month period, by 0.1°F. The average temperature was 2.8 degrees F above the 20th century average.

In the last year, the U.S. has experienced its second hottest summer, fourth warmest winter (December through February) and warmest March on record. And NCDC announced April 2012 was third warmest on record.

How the hell are they measuring temperatures to come to this conclusion? I’ve paid attention to the weather, both in my home state, and across the nation, and I don’t see where 2011-2012 was any warmer than any year in the past 10+ years. In fact, I’d say this was a cooler period. In fact, I have not seen a summer in the past 10 years that was warmer than summers I recall from my youth.

It’s not about the actual temperature...it’s about the propaganda headline...most younguns don’t bother to read all of it, just skim the headline.

Being manipulated, of course. But it is them who will pay that tax for breathing, because they believe the earth is gettin hot from mankind!

As yourself I’m in California. Southern California.

I’ll be happy to send copies of my heating bills to the author should he desire to know why I call BS on his article.

Well, it is an election year. There’s bound to be a ton of hot air expelled.

The methods used by researchers to determine overall warming/cooling are as follows (as described by my Historical Geology Professor):

1) They have different points all over the earth that record temps (easily manipulated aka parking lots)

2) Ice Core recordings

3) Fossil evidence of plants

4) Mathematical models where all of the natural variation is taken into account and the residual (error) is all attributed to anthropogenic sources

5) Level of 0-18 and 0-16 in oceans

We are currently living in an inter-glacial period that comes after an ice age. So, it’s naturally getting warmer (supposedly) but humans are making it warmer faster.

After all, we know and take into account every little variable that has an effect o9n climate and its interaction with every other variable /sarc

I live in NW Washington and we had the coldest summer on record last year. I am kind of hoping for a little global warming up our way.

Eastern Washington state here, 26 degrees here yesterday morning and 15 feet of snow on the mountains around us. I’ve read that the weather stations are on parking lots, assuring the temps they want.

for me...

last summer was very cool
last winter was very warm
this spring has been very warm
I’m expecting(hoping) for a very cool summer this year.

The previous 2 years before that were very cool.

While the winter was virtually snow-free and warm in large parts (but not all) of the US, it was super-snowy and bitter cold in Europe!! It was just the reverse the previous winter.

If enviro-Nazis want to use the warm winter this past season as a spur for “cap and trade”, etc., they’re barking up the wrong tree!!!!

It was cold as heck in Atlanta GA for the longest time.

The author's name: Jason Samenow. Shouldn't that be Jason SameNowAsItEverWas?

The obvious cause of this instance of global warming is that Jason Samenow has been eating too many beans, and that he refuses to stop farting.

So why weren’t we all dead after 1895?

Here is a web page of interest. It shows just how hot the 1930s were before air conditioning. This is for July. August was even hotter.

http://www.weather.com/outlook/health/fitness/wxclimatology/daily/USOK0537?climoMonth=7

Thee 1950s were also very hot!

In Oklahoma, last summer was blazing hot and winter was very mild. I think my sister in MN reported the same (definitely a mild winter, I’m not positive about the summer).

I didn’t watch the entire country too closely because I think the global warming hysteria is a bunch of BS, but it doesn’t strike me as odd that the data says the past year was warm.

Do they include Alaska in that US “average”? It is part of the US... And in particular, do they include it as its proportional land area of the US? Alaska has had a bitter cold winter and it is a huge area.

Or is the author picking and choosing what defines the "US average"?

It also cracks me up when they say the hottest since xxx years ago... Like the above 117 years... Well if it was that hot 117 years ago then it obviously within the normal range. And it doesn't at all make it some sort of anomaly proving that it is man made... So stupid on so many levels...

Of course Europe was seeing record cold and Libya had a snowfall and Rome had a foot of snow......

Funny admitting that tgis year was warmer than 117 years ago when we were being told every year that it was the warmist on record and unprecidented warmth....

;)
