I recently met a really fat cat. The owners said he had a medical condition that took a long time to figure out and got fat during the time that he was not feeling very good or very mobile. What I didn’t realize is that it is a very long, slow process to bring down a cat’s weight in a healthy way. They are a few months into a year and a half process.

Our Maine Coon girl cat, Miss Olivia is large and in charge at 14.5 pounds, but that’s OK for that breed.

Sad. I’d bet open bowl, and no activity. Just a layabout, and packed on the pounds.
We have a 16 year old Calico with similar problem. She just wants to lay on the couch, watch “Queen for a Day”, and eat bon bons.

My wife is a pre-school teacher with a boy in her class that’s at least 100 lbs. He is HUGE! And he’s 4 years old. His parents don’t give it a 2nd thought. The kid will be dead in 10 years. Labored breathing, red faced all the time. Sad.

> I think he was more stressed not being around people. He was purring all the time.
That’s just nuts.
Purring is what cats do because they’re happy; but, it’s also what they do when severely stressed or badly injured. It helps them cope.

I have a 36 lb Maine Coon cat. He's not obese. That's muscle. Very sweet, but don't piss him off. He'll rip the flesh off your bones.

Ahh, poor 'little' kitteh. I'm sure that since he's crossed the rainbow bridge, he's seeing a lot of friends, RIP, Meow! I sure hope
we get to see our animals when our time is up as we consider our animals as members of the family.
I've got an overweight cat and it's hard to keep him out of the food dish since we leave it out for the other cats. Luckily, his favorite one is on a counter and he can't reach it unless he tries hard and I figure that's the closest to exercise I'm going to get short of walking him.
Speaking of walking, does anyone here walk their kittehs? What type of collar do you use as well as what type of leash? Is the collar designed so they can't strangle themselves trying to get out of it? I'd like to get his weight down ten pounds (the vet isn't too concerned but I am), it has to be good for his health and I could use a walk as well. As long as the weight comes off gradually, it's usually safe.

Ah ha! It could have been hotdogs. They often contain a fat enhancing additive, that most Americans eat way too much of, and then wonder why many of us are so fat. Check out the hidden reason that so many are too fat:

We once found a kitty with a torn out under arm, took her in, keeping her in a closed off room. Somehow our male cat, that we hadn't yet fixed, got to her and impregnated her. We found good homes for the gorgeous kittens and later visited some of them at their homes. They were ginormous! One of the kitties was 32 pounds and not fat. The other kitty grew so fast and big she almost died because her body couldn't keep up. After she was full grown, she was fine, but huge. They were beautiful cats with huge plumes for tails and very soft and lovely coloring.
